That's not a sex scene.

I recall no rape scenes involving Kotonoha being depicted in-game. I find that some readers tend to misunderstand the situations presented or inject their own personal values into the narrative.

SRPG eroge Venus Blood Frontier to get an English Kickstarter
sanahtlig replied to sanahtlig's topic in Visual Novel Talk
For context, my Normal mode clear took 223 turns. Hard mode likely wouldn't have taken much longer. You'd have to be stalling on purpose to hit that turn limit. -

Ninetail released a patch for the demo that should fix the crashing issues. I guess they haven't reuploaded the fixed version yet. -

I summarize the appeal of Venus Blood Frontier, why Ninetail deserves your support, and discuss why gameplay eroge fans should rally behind the Kickstarter. Baldr Force patch released by mysterious person on 4ch
sanahtlig replied to Zakamutt's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I don't think this is true. From what I understand, in later playthroughs you can fail to accumulate sufficient affection and one of your friends will NTR your love interest. -
Baldr Force patch released by mysterious person on 4ch

@binaryfail developed the quick fix used in this patch 2 years ago, and that's what I used to play the 18+ version back then. You can download and view the documentation for it via a link in my Windows 10 VN compatibility list. -
Baldr Force patch released by mysterious person on 4ch
sanahtlig replied to Zakamutt's topic in Visual Novel Talk
This release appears to use a WINE hack (implemented by the translator) to get the game to run in Windows 8/10. That would explain why modern Windows features don't work. This game wasn't intended to run outside Windows 98/XP. -
Baldr Force patch released by mysterious person on 4ch

I needed a patched EXE to run Baldr Force EXE in Windows 8/10. That probably wouldn't be compatible with this version though. -
The lack of curation is less of a problem if you view Steam as a digital bazaar, like stalls at a convention. They're just offering you a place to set up shop; it's up to you to draw traffic to your stall and convince people to buy your products. However, developers who expect good games on a popular storefront to sell themselves may come away disappointed and discouraged. Many JP devs will likely fall into this trap.

The 4-core i3's are just fine for even mainstream graphics-heavy 3D games. They're more than enough for VNs. Most games nowadays can't really take advantage of more than 4 cores anyway. Personally I'd go for the 6-core i5s or the 8-core i7s because I'm an enthusiast, I spend most of my time at a PC, and they don't cost a whole lot more. The extra cores allow for better multi-tasking and speed up certain tasks such as extracting compressed archives. They'll also be leveraged by the emerging ray-tracing features in upcoming 3D games.

Valve opens Steam to uncensored eroge and hentai games
sanahtlig commented on sanahtlig's blog entry in Sanahtlig's Corner
I don't think PayPal cares unless sexually-explicit content (e.g., a trial or HCG) is being offered for free. Nutaku will likely remain a hub for free-to-play sex games because of this. -

Is there anyway I can play Figu@Mate with Translation
sanahtlig replied to Ryuga's topic in Visual Novel Talk
You can ask Sekai Project to translate the JP version. But they'll probably laugh at you. -
What struck me about the announcement was that they left the title in moonrunes. Presumably I'd be following them and buying their games because I can't decode moonrunes... right?

Reputation, data (e.g., previous successful releases), and certification by trusted experts. The means are there, but the will to use them and reject seemingly attractive offers is necessary. When your company is on the verge of bankruptcy, you tend to grab at short-term solutions and dismiss longer term considerations.

Here's some telltale signs of a machine translation. Narration is more coherent than dialogue. MTL does best with structured prose, whereas complex vocabulary and grammar tend to trip up human learners. MTL's weak areas are colloquial language, character-specific language quirks, and humor. (low-effort editing) Frequent and severe context errors. Alternative definitions for a word seem to be chosen at random. There's very little coherence. (high-effort editing) Propagation of errors. Major mistranslations occur that even those with rudimentary knowledge of JP wouldn't make, and these are propagated through surrounding text. The mistranslations become the new context. There may be coherence but the story itself has been seemingly rewritten. If done well, might not be apparent to those without JP knowledge.

I'll defer to those with experience in both fan translation and official translation. But from personal experience (in life in general, not just translation), effort matters more than experience, and financial incentives often don't reward effort (per unit of production). Experience certainly allows you to get more done with less effort (per unit of production), if you choose. I'm also not convinced this is a machine translation, though 3 screenshots really aren't much to go on. The difference matters because false accusations without any supporting evidence obstruct useful discussion and cause unnecessary polarization. This is the difference between a deliberate scam and simple incompetence; those who pitch any bad TL as 'machine translation' are making the equivalent of a moral appeal, which is a lamentable persuasive tactic often seen in politics.

Experience makes you more efficient, but not necessarily better. Think of quality and speed as opposing ends of a spectrum, and efficiency as a bonus that you can allocate to either one or both. If speed is prioritized, as it often is, then the benefits of higher efficiency could end up entirely "squandered". Speed could even be so highly prioritized that quality is actually reduced vs. an inefficient worker who takes his time to deliver a quality result. It all comes down to the incentive structure in such cases.
