Clephas Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Even people with touch-screen laptops don't like it... the only people that like it are the idiots who forked out the excessive (edit) cash for those shitboards also known as tablets. Quote
Clephas Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 The usual 'waste not want not' kind of thinking companies tend to indulge in... it would be one thing if it made sense, but when something is basically the equivalent of contaminated medical supplies, you'd think they'd have the sense to seal it properly in a flask and forget about it... Yuuko Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Just saying that everytime I use W10, there is give feedback message. Quote
Satoshi Mochida Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I recently  received an offer for an free upgrade to Windows 10. I believe that everyone who uses Windows receives this offer  At the moment I just reserved a copy of Windows 10.  However, I'm currently doubting whether I want to upgrade it because from what I understand several VNs might not work properly on latest versions of Windows. For example, I have read on Fuwa that many people have issues playing old VNs (e.g. Ever 17) on Windows 8.  I'm currently still reading Umineko and I don't want to risk unable to play my VNs when upgrading my Windows to 10. Are tere any tech specialists on Fuwa that could provide me with some advice on whether I should upgrade or not? I'm still using Windows 7 at the moment.  Thanks in Advance Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Windows 10 is still in experimental stages and hasn't been officially released yet. You should have been prompted to reserve the upgrade for when it comes out which supposedly is August 30th. I suggest not bothering upgrading just yet because they're still fixing bugs with it and of course don't reserve the upgrade and wait for it to officially come out and see people's reactions and reviews. Quote
Satoshi Mochida Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 For now I just reserved a copy of it. I can always not install the OS when it's available. I'm just curious on whether it might have any significant effects on playing some of the older VNs when installed Quote
Eclipsed Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I'll merge this thread with an existing VNs & Windows 10 compatibility thread. Â ~~ Don't fall for the 'always get the lastest stuff!' trend. Stick with your current Windows until you hear it's safe Quote
tahu157 Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 If something works, there's no point in updating, unless they force you to. Quote
Clephas Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 In theory. I figure there will be massive paid feature creep over the years. 'Oh, you want this service, well you'll have to pay us twenty dollars.' Quote

Tay Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I genuinely believe/trust the incentive program to Windows 10, and from what I'm seeing VNs should have no problem running on W10 if they were able to run on W7 or W8.  What we should really be worried about is the loss of our beloved OneDrive smart files in Windows 8/8.1. I'm still mad about that. Helvetica Standard 1 Quote
nohman Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 What we should really be worried about is the loss of our beloved OneDrive smart files in Windows 8/8.1. I'm still mad about that.  Woah, you actually used OneDrive? Then again, I suppose some people are a little more on the go (read: they go outside) than I am. That ever present, difficult to remove OneDrive icon in the explorer menu inexplicably bothered me for some reason. Quote
GLM4475 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Hmm, let's just wait and hear the comments from those trying them, then decide. Since it's free, why not try? After all, if you have a backup of your previous OS and you aren't satisfied with Windows 10, you could always revert back to your previous OS. About this upgrade, does it also apply to a pirated OS? (I highly doubt Microsoft would make such a stupid mistake but you can't ignore the possibility) Quote
Yuuko Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 If anyone here has w10 preview can they test for me if ITH works for them? I have tried the preview on my other computer and ITH doesn't work on it anymore. I want to know if I can update the other one to w10 when it's officially out. Quote

I bet this is a circumventable security issue. Â Make sure the process isn't being blocked by Windows security features or an overly zealous firewall / antivirus suite. Quote
Suzu Fanatic Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I'm wearing a tinfoil hat and convinced there is some "presents" buried in win 10 - I mean, it's trying "really" hard to get everyone in the world to switch to it... can't help but think there might be privacy-related issues to the OS. An agreement with google? Corperate and/or goverment spynetworks? Who can say. Â I know I'm being silly - but the fact this is litterly being given away - makes me leery. Â THat and I don't wanna find out mah VNs wil no longer work D: (esp, the older ones such as Utawamono) Also concerned with the ever-stricter behavior out there, if they will start enforcing region-locking etc. Quote
Darklord Rooke Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I stayed on XP until I was forced to upgrade a few years ago, and by George I'll be doing the same with Windows 7 Suzu Fanatic, Narcosis and B0X0R 3 Quote

Suzu Fanatic Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 * Sharin no Kuni - NoDVD fix no longer works, requires ISO to be mounted when playing* Sharin no Kuni FD - Same as above  Do you use Daemontools or something else? That was another concern of mine - if ISO mounting software would still work.  EDIT (abit OT, but meh): And emulators such as snes, pcsx2, etc~ Quote
Kendjin Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 My daemon tools kept working in all versions of 10 I've tested so far. Suzu Fanatic 1 Quote
Suzu Fanatic Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Only other thing I can think of are codecs. Not many do, but a few VNs require codecs typically found in community codec packs; wonder if win10 is similar enough to win7 that htey can be streamlined into the new OS. Quote
douggle Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 You should be fine in most cases unless you are going for Visual Novels that use DirectDraw, you will be better off running a virtual machine for those. Quote
Zalor Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Windows is telling me to "reserve your free upgrade". If I don't don't click that than I can keep my lovely windows 7 right? I feel like Microsoft isn't beneath forcing this damn new operating system through my mouth by including it in an automatic update. I really don't want windows 10. Am I safe? Â Â Quote
