I've definitely had some VNs not work well on 8/8.1, but I was always able to resolve them by reading enough pre-existing tech support threads. What are you even talking about? The only thing I found on the internet claiming Windows 10 will be less secure than any previous version is some moron posting a doom-and-gloom prediction of problems with no basis in reality. And, yes, I feel pretty justified calling him a moron, on the basis of this paragraph alone: "Windows Explorer may now be called File Explorer and sport a new interface, but it still hides the file type by default. That is, a file called hackmeplease.jpg.exe will still appear in File Explorer as hackmeplease.jpg. This is shameful." I think it's much more accurate to say most people think 7 is the best Microsoft has released so far, and they're certainly right. Anybody who thinks Windows 7 is the best operating system that Microsoft could ever hypothetically release is clearly not thinking straight. It ain't that great. Neither is any given iOS or Mac OS, nor any given Linux distro (I've used all of the above in pretty large amounts). These things get better in some ways, and worse in some ways. Time and experience will tell if Windows 10 is more on the better side or more on the worse side, but the reviews are very, very positive; it's a little bit premature to declare it dead and buried because the default file explorer behavior doesn't tell you the file extension... http://www.extremete...-skype-contacts Posted that earlier in the thread, but thought i'd point it your way. By design it puts a pretty big hole in being secure (at least if you are on a wifi network/router). kyrt 1 Quote
Fred the Barber Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Ahh, ok, then that is one feature I'd certainly opt-out of, because of the way you can't limit the sharing; and if it's on by default, I can see why people are unhappy about it. Doesn't seem well thought-through. That said, even if that feature is a misstep, overall security seems to be improving - Windows Hello is, finally, a step towards a secure login alternative to passwords, and I'm reading vague rumblings about more baked-in support for multi-factor auth. Given that constant corporate security breaches are the norm today, I'm happy to see any move that gets us a little further away from passwords, just to make it less impactful every time someone announces, "Yep, we got hacked, and they probably got your password". sanahtlig Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I've briefly played with Windows 10 and tried these installation methods: upgrading from Windows 8, as well as a clean install. In both cases, the Japanese fonts like MS Gothic are not installed by default in Windows 10 (despite them being included in previous versions of Windows) which means they'll need to be installed from the control panel. To do that.... 1. bring up the Start Menu -> Settings 2. click System 3. pick Apps & Features (on the left) 4. choose Manage optional features 5. choose Add a feature 6. find Japanese Supplemental Fonts and install it I think this could be important for people who play VNs in Japanese. Make sure you install the Japanese supplemental fonts, or text in VNs may not display correctly. Sonitz Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 So, for those who have tried the new OS, can you tell me BRIEFLY about what is different about it from its predecessors? Pros: + Get updates regularly + It's a free update (if you have Windows 7, 8 or 8.1) + Have Cortana + Internet Explorer has been faster than before + Can play some Non-unicode games without Region change (not confirmed) + Less Blue Screen of Death Cons: + Some sources claimed that Microsoft is using Windows 10 to get private info from consumer's PC (haven't confirmed) + Compatibility issues with some games (some VNs like 小女ラムネ」の起動 and ひまわり!! ‐あなただけを見つめてる crashed for unknown reasons) + Extremely RAM consuming for some dumb reason if using Chrome or Firefox + If access Windows Store, ads gonna bother you... A LOT !!! + No Windows Media Player (that means that you have to install manually, search on Microsoft page for more details) To sum this up: Windows 10 is buggy as f*ck. Recommended using two Windows, in case of Windows 10 gets too buggy for you. Quote
Eclipsed Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 May consider stopping being a old fart and upgrade to Windows 10 soon, I'd like feedback on how the transition felt like for those who went from 8.1 to 10 regarding overall usage, productivity, multimedia entertainment, and the good ol' VNs. I think I remember Decay bein' all like "there's no reason not to upgrade", sooo hihi @Decay advise pls Quote

Darklord Rooke Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 MS is currently shoving Windows 10 in my face, and has done everything BUT take control of my computer and forced me to update, which is not only quite rude but guarantees it will be a LONG time before I consider updating. Eclipsed Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 ^i feel good, knowing that a legit dinosaur hasn't upgraded to 10 yet. And yeah, dem "update your gorram OS, 110m+ people already did, join da club you damned hipster" needs to get shot. I'll do sommore research, and most likely will probably finally make the update to 10 on like the last day it's free. Templarseeker 1 Quote
Yuuko Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Well you could test it for 30 days and then revert back too. Also it's kinda easy to block the windows 10 update pop-ups etc. if I'm not wrong. Quote
Tyr Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 The only reason you need to know to not update to Windows 10 is that it's spyware. I'm really baffled that so many people don't care about their privacy at all and happily update to an operation system which doesn't even hide that it will collect all your private data and is monitoring and logging everything you're doing. Especially if you use this system to play your chinese underaged pron games you should probably care a little bit more about privacy, just saying, lol. And the biggest joke of all is that Windows 10 compatibility for visual novels is the worst of every Windows OS yet. Like there is zero reason for anyone of you to update and hundreds of reasons to not do it. And you guys are still updating. I don't even. Why are you doing this? I really want to know. Because I just don't get it. At all. 3 hours ago, Eclipsed said: the last day it's free. Windows 10 will always be free. That's the whole point of it. Every doubt you have is clever marketing. It's not really rocket science to understand what Microsoft is doing here... Darklord Rooke and Suzu Fanatic 2 Quote
Suzu Fanatic Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 "But if we have nothing to hide, there's no reason to be worried about our privacy" argues some businesses such as google - and even some consumers that apparently live like saints. I might buy the professional version eventually, once the games I play demand DX12 (professional, becuase I've read you have alot more control on the privacy stuff) - but otherwise, I completely gutted and removed all traces of win10's upgrade program and runtime. Only issue is, I'm never sure what KB update it will be hidden away in with windows updates, so I've been avoiding updates. =/ The thing people don't understand is, that by getting the free version - you are signing a contract that says you are allowing Microsoft and whatever partners they have (hi Google!) - to collect info and install various "features" without you permission. The free version forces you into a "testing group" where you get bombbarded by marketing. It's actually pretty clever. Forced adware and spyware built right into the OS - unless you are willing to officially buy the OS. Tyr and Darklord Rooke 2 Quote

Yuno-Gasai Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Does anyone know if Shinigami no Testament is working on windows 10 ? Quote
Templarseeker Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I've upgraded my previous Windows 8.1 64 bit OS to Windows 10 64 bit since its much better and superior than win 8 in every way and I wanted to try it out ever since. Ever since then it runs just quite alright without any issues. I tried installing some VNs and most of them work smoothly. Umm... If most of you are concerned about privacy regarding Microsoft doing sinister stuffs onto your PCs like gathering details in your PC or updating unnecessary spyware programs on your OS without your consent. You could manually delete the windows system file named "svchost.exe" found somewhere in the system files of windows to permanently disable or cut off Windows 10/Microsoft capability to update or gather information from your PC for good if you wish to use Win 10 without any updates or other interference. Although by doing so you'll be unable to use the windows store and other functions which beats the purpose of using Win 10 since "svchost.exe" is a very vital windows file, almost every program needs this thing to be able to be fully functional or they'll be totally messed up big time. Also if you delete "svchost.exe" incorrectly or deleted other windows files by accident, there's a huge chance for your PC to be mortally damaged and the only way to fix it is either to revert your OS to a certain point where win 10 was first freshly installed or reinstall it entirely which is really bothersome to do. Ever since with Win 10, you no longer have the option or the choice to choose which updates you wish your PC to acquire as the OS itself automatically determines which updates your PC, whatever programs the Win 10 OS deems essential for your PC to have, thus you're likely won't be able to know whatever programs or updates has actually taken place giving the impression that they're doing something suspicious. Unlike before with Win 7 and Win 8 whereas you have absolute full control on which updates you want to have for your PC such as the different option language packages, security and hardware updates or other miscellaneous updates ranging from the important ones with the purely optional ones. Win 10 no longer gives you that kind of control which is a bit shameful but somehow understandable... At the moment I'm running my PC where I actually removed "svchost.exe" and every seems to be alright ever since the day I upgraded from win 8 to 10, except that I cannot use the Windows Store and the other numerous functions Win 10 has. However most of my VNs and other games still runs smoothly since they're not complex programs/software. Discovered this thing by accident and just wanted to share it if ever you guys wanted to upgrade or use Win 10 without any updates or other interfering stuff from Microsoft just to be on the safe side since its much better than Win 8. But if your already using Win 7, then there's no need to upgrade since Win 7 is the best OS to date when it comes to compatibility of certain software or programs. Hope this helps or maybe not XD Tyr and Okarin 2 Quote
Okarin Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Or, you know, you could run Linux Mint and play VNs with Wine. I know that nothing beats native environment, but Wine should handle them. Quote
