Eclipsed Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Do any of you guys still get these errors every now and then? I get it at least a couple times a week and although it only lasts a few minutes still annoying af. or Halp Quote
GetterEmperor Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I'll get them from time to time. They don't really bother me though. Quote
EldritchCherub Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I second this notion. I've been getting them with increasing frequency these past couple of days. The problem seems to only be with this site. Is something being tinkered with behind the scenes? Quote
joehawks12 Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 just experienced it like crazy. Fuwa forums are like pururin right now. Quote
LinovaA Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Every so often. It isn't too bad, but it gets annoying when it is persistent. Quote
Deep Blue Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 from time to time, yes, but it's not something that happens often so I don't mind really Quote
Nosebleed Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 It's sparse but it does happen. Today it happened a bit more frequently than usual, but it always comes back after some minutes. Quote
Kosakyun Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Doesn't happen everyday, but I wouldn't mind, seeing how slow my connection is. It's something that happens when it happens for me. No reason to be bothered by it, imo. Quote
Eclipsed Posted May 18, 2015 Author Posted May 18, 2015 Regardless of whether or not it is 'liveable', i'd like to know why this occurs Quote
Zakamutt Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Well, it's prolly someone changing server settings or whatever behind the scenes. Prolly. Quote
Guest Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 staff communication Anyway, I'm glad to see the staff working torwards reintroducing the old traditions. The feels everytime the site goes down ! I almost want to go to Steve's TS. Sponsored my http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ Quote
Nayleen Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Will fix as soon as I manage to crawl out of bed. Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 It seems the Fix is coming sometime 2016. I've had them too but they last no more than a few seconds and don't happen that often. Quote
Nayleen Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 It said it wouldn't be able to tolerate the amount of weeb and waifu talk otherwise, but I convinced the MySQL server to not leave to fetch a drink anymore. Fixed the one critical part (performance-wise) of the current site, which is Piwik's archiving cron. Quote
Eclipsed Posted May 18, 2015 Author Posted May 18, 2015 @Nay so for clarity are the errors the result of purely technical issues or is it the 'someone working behind the scenes' thing that people are saying? Quote
Nosebleed Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 It said it wouldn't be able to tolerate the amount of weeb and waifu talk otherwise, but I convinced the MySQL server to not leave to fetch a drink anymore. Does this mean we can't hate on cloudfare anymore? Quote
Lewycool Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Nay is just popping them up to pretend he's working on the site Quote
Nayleen Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 ^ Random MySQL server restarts ought to do the trick. The issues were resulting from automatic table flushing on the MySQL side and Piwik (our analytics software) running its archiving task once per hour (pretty much aggregating what happened in the last hour, which can be quite a lot). Still, should this happen anymore, especially the 504 Gateway Timeouts (which were caused by the server being busy from the archiving task) we're going to need to consider upgrading server hardware, which would be nasty - or I'd have to look into more efficient alternatives. OriginalRen Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 We all know the real reason the site goes down. Pulltop Yakuza. Quote
Nayleen Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Hey, it's an easy 20 bucks per MySQL restart, don't judge. Eclipsed 1 Quote

I don't understand why this archiving and normal operations can't happen simultaneously. The server isn't running on a single-core processor, right? It should be able to handle multiple tasks at once, as long as the archiving is set to run in the background (low priority). Can't archiving be skipped or delayed during high-traffic periods? Quote
Nayleen Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 The archiving task was also severely limited by some factors (the database user not being able to import files directly, for example) and I made sure to fix those first, and now I can look into it further. Shouldn't be too much of an issue anymore, though. Quote
