starlessn1ght Posted May 28, 2015 Author Posted May 28, 2015 Stop Frozen discussion. This is now a best Disney songs thread. Classy as fuck. Disney animation at its subtlest and finest. Has a somewhat epic feeling to it. Of course Hakuna Matata is also a staple from this. Aw yeees. This is what I call music. My all-time favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJJog4BJrUw Some other great songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb7kJ-j_dKA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aobVs-HfsCI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt6tX1WVlE4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgnHF2CwrPs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-FUcrQhTBY There are plenty others, but for now that's it. The only Pixar song I consider "memorable" or "great" is Le Festin, from Ratatouille. Pixar movies are usually better than Disney Pictures last movies but less good than Disney's 2D movies imo. The only really "underground" Pixar movie was Up imo, but I still haven't watched Brave. I'm looking forward to Inside Out, it seems really good. Quote
nohman Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Disney villain songs tend to be my favorite in the movies, specifically the songs in Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast. My favorite Disney song is what I previously posted (Hellfire), but it's followed by this number: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl0DMTlwLw4 starlessn1ght 1 Quote
Nosebleed Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Being a European pleb, Tintin was a huge part of my childhood. I have the entire collection in VHS and would probably still have fun watching it today. I remember this one particular movie I watched from 20th Century Fox called Anastasia. Probably one of the darker cartoon movies I watched as a kid but I absolutely loved the story and animation. Also y no Gaston in dis thred Quote
Zalor Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 South Park is easily one of the best satirical commentaries on modern (American) society. This is still easily my favorite scene ever: Eclipsed 1 Quote

Down Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Interesting, my Anthropology professor agrees with my view that it is a brilliant social critique. When you spend your time studying cultures, you can really appreciate the criticisms South Park makes. I don't know if I would call it a "brilliant" social critique, since South Park is nothing even close to subtle and that makes it, well, very rough. South Park is basic, ultra-caustic parody with toilet humor et al included. It's got nothing constructive to say, but it's necessary because it keeps punching us in the guts to remind us to stay critical, never take things too seriously and keep caring about what's going on in the world. And to have something saying out loud politically incorrect things. South Park is kinda like 4chan: the animation, now that I think about it. Well, for the people that don't somehow manage to miss the less-than-subtle cynism, at least. I can't wrap my head around the fact that many people watch South Park purely for the crass jokes. Quote
starlessn1ght Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 My geography teacher loves South Park and Simpsons, but he hates USA. Quote
atorq Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I like anything from Pixar and most of the non-Pixar animated movies I've seen. Never seen Frozen though, but Let it go is pretty good. When it comes to tv I think that Futurama and South Park is definitely on the top. Family Guy can be funny at times, but it's mostly just shit. Quote
Eclipsed Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 i never really watched South Park but all the shows on Fox 11 at 6-9PM over the years Futurama > Simpsons > Family Guy > American Dad > King of the Hill Quote
starlessn1ght Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 Just finished watching "Inside Out". That was really good. There are still some Pixar movies that are better than it, but it's definitely a masterpiece. This is what I like so much about Pixar: they are incredibly creative, they put a lot of things you can actually relate to your life, and they make such meaningful and beautiful movies. This was one of the few films that made me cry and it matched my expectations. I hope it gets a sequel, there is room to be explored. Fred the Barber 1 Quote
nohman Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Saw Pixar's Inside Out earlier today. Extremely creative with some very cool concepts realized in interesting ways. Great voice cast too. I ended up really enjoying it. Fred the Barber and starlessn1ght 2 Quote
SilverLi Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Some of my favorite western animated movies are probably Finding Nemo, Cars, Mulan and Kung Fu Panda. Quote
Getsuya Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I saw people linking good Disney songs and went through each one looking for Hellfire. Nope. I'm happy to be the first one to link this. It's just... so very different from any other Disney song or video. I like to imagine that when the creators of this movie went to the first screening they watched this song and then sort of just looked at each other with bloodless faces and whispered "Did we really make that?" ... anyway for something lighter, here have Pogo. Pogo is a person on Youtube who makes really trippy remixes of Disney movies by patching together bits and pieces of music and dialogue from the movies. They're really upbeat and dreamy. My favorite is the Alice in Wonderland one: nohman 1 Quote

Fred the Barber Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Just watched Inside Out today. It was amazing in many ways (appearance, setting, and emotional impact all come to mind immediately), and I highly recommend it particularly for fellow feels masochists. starlessn1ght 1 Quote
