Zalor Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 spoilers need spoiler tags. I added them for you. Please use them in the future. Even though what you said was minor, it was still spoilers. Just please be aware!! Thanks for fixing it for me. I originally contemplated using spoiler tags, but I concluded that I didn't mention anything that was technically a spoiler. For example I didn't mention how Shinji and Asuka were similar. Since I only mentioned character analysis and not actual events I thought it was okay to leave them out. But I suppose it never hurts to have them there. Quote
solidbatman Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 i'm starting to get the feeling that i am the only person here who didn't like evangelion. it wasn't even like it was one of the anime's that i stopped at episode 4, me and a friend watched the original series from start to finish, and then watched the movie. can someone explain the appeal? i don't get it. Everyone kind of takes something different from Evangelion which lends itself to a lot of debate and discussion. People love to argue and debate, so I think thats part of the reason Evangelion is so popular. For me, when I watched it, it was so different from anything I had ever seen and full of subtle themes. It really didn't become one of my favorites until a second viewing though when I picked up on the subtle themes and character development (which was great). That being said, Evangelion is also a freaking mess of a story and fans sort of pick up the pieces. Quote

Agreed. I didn't really appreciate Evangelion until I saw it a second time. The first viewing can be kind of a mind fuck, (especially if you walk into it expecting it to be a conventional anime). The second viewing is where you start picking up on stuff, and really appreciating its brilliance. Quote

It's always interesting to see what different people get out of that show (which, in itself, speaks well of the series). Personally, I've watched it all the way through 3 times in my life, and each time I've appreciated the focus on overcoming depression. With each time I felt more and more comfortable putting aside the religious symbolism and terminology in favor of the more empathizing positive, empowering messages. Now, watching it, all I can get out of it is a fantastic depiction of depression and the author's method of 'waking up' from depression and starting to live life. It's fun, though, reading about other people's experiences with an anime. It's cool we can see different things and benefit from other points of view. Quote

Beato Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 In no particular order Clannad After Story Chihayafuru Mawaru Penguindrum Koi Kaze Madoka Steins;Gate Fate/Zero Keroro Gunsou ...I have watched quite a bit more than this but they don't fit into my personal top-tier. (i should get to watching stuff like Utena and Lain instead of stuff like Oreimo and Haruhi. I certainly enjoy the latter series but they're not really things I love) Shin Sekai Yori might fit in here but I have only watched a few episodes. Quote

Ive been a fan since the early 80's so im sure youll find all kinds of interesting stuff to watch. Or if you guys want some recommendations :)/> Hey thanks! The only old school anime that I have watched would be Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball, and Yu Yu Hakusho (I think that's how it's spelled.) I watched them when I was really little so they aren't on my anime list, as I plan to re watch them. Quote

This interpretation is kind of mind-blowing if you think about the theory that Rebuild of Evangelion is a sequel to the original series and the original movies, and showcases a much more badass Shinji D: Quote
