Yussss. Love this game. Too bad I'm too much of a coward. Whenever something starts happening I duck behind a corner and hide so I tend to miss all the spooky bits. This time I'm charging in guns blazing into everything so I can see all the cool stuff.

This was the era right after Ring/Grudge had come out and Japanese horror tropes were very, very new and unseen in American horror stuff so this was kind of the first stab at taking the Asian horror vibe and applying it to a Western genre like FPS. It was really creative and new for the time it was made (though time slowdown was already a kind of tired mechanic by this point).

If you want another FPS that is mainly made for the scares, try Clive Barker's Undying.

But FEAR isn't bad. Just make sure to charge ahead all the time so you can see everything. If you play hesitantly you'll miss some stuff.

I remember playing FEAR at my dads house as he went on and on about how good the AI was. It really was some great AI for the time, and the gameplay itself was good. I don't recall the game getting bogged down ever. Can't wait to start this game up and give it a go.

dat enemy AI. If you give them an instant to breathe and regroup they will flank you faster than you will believe. I almost feel like they're teleporting because I'll duck behind cover for a second and then all of the sudden I'm getting shot at from behind while another guy ready to jump me when I turn to fight the guy flanking me.

Combat shottie for the win. I only use slowdown now so I can dash out and splatter some goons with my shotgun because slowdown makes your long-range shots super inaccurate (or at least it does for me). Before that I only used it with the dual pistols.

Sadly I got stuck. I'm kinda tired tonight so maybe I'm just missing something obvious, but I legitimately cannot figure out how to advance past the point I'm at. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

Great game, though. Absolutely a classic in the FPS genre.

A very underrated classic at that. I think the 3rd game sort of kept people from trying the others.

Aaaaand I'm now too sick to effectively play the game on any difficulty level but easy  >.>

Did anyone else not really think of this game as "scary"?  It failed to actually scare me at any point.  Then again, F.E.A.R. seems to focus more on building a creepy and unsettling atmosphere than straight-up scaring people.

a FPS horror game is a bit tough to pull off and FEAR did about as well as one could hope. The whole idea of an FPS is to mow down as many enemies as possible and get from point A to point B in the most bombastic way allowed. FEAR does this, while, as you stated, working to build an unsettling atmosphere and creating some tense moments. But it is hindered by the fact it is still, at heart, an FPS.

FEAR is pretty fun. The enemy AI is as good as everybody said, you can't really sit around in one spot. It's kind of like closed combat Stalker. I really like running around the maze like stages, killing of isolated enemies and trying to not get caught. I like the thrill of the hunt. It's sad that the pistols don't really work against the armored enemies, running around with dual pistols was way too fun.

I don't really like the horror elements. Not because the game is scary, but because it feels like they try too hard to make it scary and doesn't really work. The random flashbacks/delusions for example feel kind of cheesy. The few darker areas with visions were nice though, that was the kind of atmosphere I was expecting.

I'd argue that most horror is cheesy :P

Guys, since Solidbatman isn't anymore member of fuwanoel, well, i talked with some moderators out there and...i hoped i could ask batman face to face, but i can't anymore.

I want to maintain this Video games club alive, and by so, become the chairman, the leader of the Video game club, but i don't want to do that if no one agree with that.

All i'm asking you people, is that if you want me to become the new leader of the VG club, at least until Solidbatman comes back, and when he comes back, and if he want, i'll give him back the club he created, so, like Alexis Tsipras did, i'm asking you, do you vote NAI or OXI for me as the leader of the VG club?

Onegai, thanks all.

FEAR 3 sucks tough  :(

The first game really left an impression on me, at the time I didn't really played a lot of horror games. I remember screaming at some point when Alma appears crawling towards you in an oficce or somewhat. I don't usually scream when I get scared but that was one exception xD
