muv luv without alt is just a waste of time, having alternative as stretch goal says a lot about how they are doing business, this is not a company I want to support.

also everything they are saying about the +18 is in the air, I just keep reading the word "later date" "later on" "at some point"

meh

This isn't really an ideological issue.  It's just a business strategy that could help or hinder them.  I don't think it's a very good strategy, but unlike the 18+ issue I wouldn't hold the decision against them either way, although sticking to Alternative as a stretch goal would force a Prisoner's Dilemma situation I think.

It is a business strategy that can backfire them by the end, although i'm pretty sure that people will still support it and it will reach the stretch goal (your prisoner's dilemma make sense but i still think that people will support it no mater what) this again is something that you wont see very often in a campaign of kickstarter, very few can take the liberty to do something like this and still have a chance to be funded.

May as well make the initial goal 250k at this point. MLE/MLU are not actually worth reading without the grand finale. I believe just merging the two goals at 250k would increase the amount of pledges, considering it would be all or nothing. Now you kind of have to just hope that like-minded fans will donate beyond the initial goal.

With all the collectors junk they have shoved up the butt of this kickstarter the 250k will be an absolute joke. I don't really understand why people are afraid that this goal wouldn't be met. Maybe if humans were logical, thinking, reasonable creatures that could actually make good decesions on where to put their money, maybe this would have a effect. The bottom line is that the MuvLuv fanbase is rabid and unreasonable, I will be shocked to my fucking core if the 400k stretch goal isn't made by the end of the first week.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid to put such an integral part of the series as a stretch goal. But honestly, the chances of them not meeting it are pretty much zero, so it's not that big of a deal.

Muv-Luv  4 minutes ago

Thanks for the feedback everyone, both Muv-Luv (Extra+Unlimited) and Muv-Luv Alternative will now be combined as our starting goal, and VITA will replace Android as a stretch goal (it will also help support an official Japanese release)! The page will be updated soon.

Just hurry up and get the kickstarter up, it should have been up already.

Well, delays are common in VN Localization business :D

Good thing, that they listen to crowd. People wanted VITA, and no android, they changed it. People wanted to start with guaranteed ML + MLA (250,000$) they listened.

I hope they'll change tier for Photons but chances are very slight...

And the delays are probably, because of communication, it probably looks like this: Degica asks JP Age for something, they need to talk about it, and officialize it or deny it, then they answer to Degica.

And there we go, couple days later. And somewhere in between theres also JP ixtl.

KS will still probably start in Sept.

In all honesty though, I don't think Photons is really anything to get worked up about. Granted I havn't read many of the sidestories (some altered fable routes and chronicles 1). Altered Fable had some ok vanilla fanservice, but chronicles left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. "Chicken Divers" was amazingly pointless and the first chapter of "The Day After" left me foaming at the mouth mad.

Most concerning part of the campaign:

Uuuggggggghhhhhhh

you do know there are native english speakers who have been living and working for years in Japan as translators that have probably dominated the Japanese language, right? At least,I hope that's the case...

Sure, but you don't normally say a non-native person is "from" a particular country in these kinds of cases. Like, if I moved to Japan, I'd still be "from" America. The language used implies that their translators are Japanese natives.

people still complain about that little error from muv luv alt when the whole translation is actually pretty good, lets see how this japanese translation sorry this translation with the help of japanese translators is going to be  (a paid translation project not even a free one)

Huh? I just saw this on Reddit and it seems insane to me.

Sekai Project is going to translate Muv Luv  & it's sequels to English, and they need a Kickstarter to do so. But...it's been translated for years. Why not work off of that translation? Aquire it from the team? I'm sure they'd be happy to as long as they got credit. Muv Luv & It's sequels are not short games by any means, even with a professional company, it will take a long time and a ton of effort, when an already incredible translation is out there, QC'd and all.

I loved Kickstarter a few years ago, now I am just depressed by it.

If I recall correctly, the translation will be edited throughout. Moreover, I think that the PS3 version (of Alternative at least) is being brought over, and even if it isn't a port I'm certain that the game will be on a new engine so probably those programming costs bring up the limit.

Yeah, I don't get it still, if they're already using the amazing translation, then the licensing and production costs are all this Kickstarter is for? Isn't that uh, what a company is for? I dunno, I just hate seeing bullshit like this on Kickstarter. It does not belong. Every company and their sister company is on Kickstarter these days, even ones with publishers, it's sickening what it has become. Like that Shenmue 3 recent "Double dip" kickstarter.

That's the Twitter post I saw on Reddit and I very much disagree with this, and people are talking about stretch goals like not even translating Alternative? I mean, that's a waste. Muv Luv Extra is nice and all, but it's kinda shit compared to Unlimited / Alternative, so if you miss out on THAT...well, what is even the point?

I read through all of them using Amat's translation and they were incredibly high quality, and I've not seen finer ones even in professionally translated VNs, so now hearing that they need all this money and are going to translate it again...I somehow feel like the new translation is going to be awful. Above posts mention they aren't re-using the old one.  I see no reason for this, it'd be for their own benefit. Contact Amat, ask for the rights to it, say they'll be given credit, do a quick QC just incase, use the Kickstarter for Licensing and production costs(What even? The thing is already made, licensing costs should be it.), and just sell it with their patch once they have the rights to, and profit, far more than retranslating it would do.

I just see no good cause to re-translate it. It made sense with something like Higurashi, because it had a shitty fan translation, but something like Muv Luvs?  I just don't want another JAST USA situation on our hands.

Also, reading through this topic abit more, people are saying it's going to censor the excessive violence and gore? The H was always censored, and I don't really care about that, but censoring the violence, gore and all that? In a game like Muv Luv? That's insanity. The whole VN is about hopelessness, to censor it...why? America has no problem with gore and blood.  We hate nipples, surely, but we're ok with watching a TV series about someones organs being pulled out slowly and all that.

It's cool this getting an Official release, more chance for people to play it, I think that's great, but so much already has me worried what with this talk of "Professional Japanese translators", and censored CG's.

Alternative will not be a  stretch goal but part of the base goal. They will not be translating it again, but using Amaterasu's translations. Also Amaterasu's translations, despite your feelings on them, are highly criticized throughout the scene and are considered to be in heavy need of translation checking and editing by many people. Also it is highly possible that Degica  would not be able to do this without Kickstarter, which is the entire point of the service in my eyes.

Also, licensing is the single biggest cost for VN translations. Not paying the translators or programmers or QCers, but paying the original license holders for the game and also the voicework. The costs for that are WAY higher than paying your staff and can get quite extreme. That's why kickstarter is needed.
