Vokoca Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 I thought you dropped euphoria? I did, and then I was talked back into it. D: Finished Cartagra's demo, looking forward to the release, though I have to say while it was kind of a retread for me as I'd played that portion of the game already it was surprising how much I got right back when I played some of it years ago and had significantly lesser (than my already weak) Japanese reading skills. From what you've played, how does it compare to Kara no Shoujo? Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 I kind of liked it a little more than KnS for the postwar setting and Kazuna I found to be a more enjoyable main heroine than Toko. Bear in mind this is based on a portion of play so this could change after I've played the finished product Quote
Ayana Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Finally, finally finished with Oretsuba... That took a relatively lengthy amount of time considering the norm I have for reading through entire 50+ hr VNs. Though it's safe to say that Oretsuba is one of my favorite VNs next to Baldr Sky and SubaHibi, as it was probably the most entertainment I've had in a long time. xD Funniest VN, definitely. Next, I'm reading one that a friend recommended me a while back; Kitto, Sumiwataru Asairo Yori mo, or 'Asairo' for short. I feel like I'm on a roll with VNs lately so I want to keep up the pace and then never let go~! Quote
Vokoca Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 And finished euphoria. This is a very hard VN for me to rate. I do not particularly enjoy h-scenes, I certainly don't like rape and scat is most definitely not my thing - yet euphoria was, all in all, a fun read. While the h-scenes served a clear purpose for the plot - and there even were some that had major plot details or character development directly in them - there's no doubt they're the main reason for this VN's existence. No matter how justified they might be, ~1500 CGs of h content is overkill no matter how you look at it. They could've probably done without the whole scat thing too, even though I could see how that's there to make the whole thing more horrible... the point is, the VN still has a clear target audience in mind, and if you aren't a part of it (like me), you aren't going to enjoy it as much. Does that mean there's nothing left to enjoy, though? Definitely not. If you can make it through the fetishistic porn with either morbid curiosity or a really open mind, you'll get to read an interesting and exceptionally dark take on the 'survival game' formula. While it's no mindblowing masterpiece, the true route holds quite a number of twists and surprises, and the other routes give you just enough hints to keep you interested. The highlight of the story, as should be probably expected, is how the characters deal with the situation they were thrown into. Character and relationship developments are things that euphoria does well - it just should be noted that those developments aren't always for the better. Still, the story and characters aren't perfect, and there are quite some far-fetched and odd things here and there, but it doesn't ruin it completely. All in all, a 7/10 from me. Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I think I'm nearly done with Kanata's route in Devils Devel Concept. While it's been an okay route so far I'm a bit annoyed at the constant infodumping right before or in the middle of a fight, aside for the pacing issues it creates for me it's also because that's when it gets difficult to read. masterlukj Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I'm currently playing Grisaia no Kajitsu and I got to say I'm loving it extremly Quote
Decay Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I'm now about 2/3rds or 3/4ths of the way through Episode 7 of Umineko. Yeah, okay, this is an infodump episode, but I'm still really intrigued. This is obviously the part where you have to wrack your brain non-stop trying to figure everything out before it's spelled out for you. I'm kind of failing at that. I need to take a break. I did laugh at the part where Bernkastel pretty much calls all readers who couldn't put together the by-then obvious "who dunnit" idiots. At least I'm not THAT dumb, I feel like I now have Ryukishi07's approval to keep reading. .... Hopefully I don't get made a total fool of tomorrow when I continue reading. Quote

Episode 7 dumps enough info to leave you with a sensation of I-think-I-kinda-know-what's-going-on-maybe-or-not but never clearly spells out the answers for you. The game doesn't really do. Honestly a lot of disparate elements can be figured out pretty easily through just reading the thing, but if you figure out the main "truth" without long and intensive brain-wracking and/or reading stuff on the net, I appoint you overlord of mystery novels and intuitive thinking. But don't worry, the part where you get shat on is episode 8 not 7 Quote
Decay Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Episode 7 dumps enough info to leave you with a sensation of I-think-I-kinda-know-what's-going-on-maybe-or-not but never clearly spells out the answers for you. Honestly a lot of disparate elements can be figured out pretty easily through just reading the thing, but if you figure out the main "truth" without long and intensive brain-wracking and/or reading stuff on the net, I appoint you overlord of mystery novels and intuitive thinking. But don't worry, the part where you get shat on is episode 8 not 7 I honestly don't even know how there can be an episode 8 at this point because at this rate everything will be exposed enough. MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGH 75% OF EP 7 Okay, so I guess Shannon was the one who gave birth to the Golden Witch Beatrice? The whole opening of the play segment was really confusing with the red herring of that other perspective. But that other perspective ("Yasu") was the "real" Shannon and the Shannon character that was meant to be idealized by the entire Fuikin House was a phoney delusion constructed by her.. I suppose this can be reasoned out using real-world logic that Shannon is the one who pulls pranks on people and messes with them in the middle of the night. It also may be that the "real" Shannon looks nothing like the character we've seen all this time, since that was the image of her ideal (and would also fit into her being an alternate timeline version of Lion). That, or she just has a massive self-esteem issue, which may be more likely. I also had a pet theory at some point Shannon and Kanon were the same person somehow, that would explain the Ep 6 closed room (Kanon "disappeared" from the closet, becoming Shannon?) and it would explain why only one was allowed to love, and why the other would have to die/vanish, following their rules of magic (When one truly becomes loved, the contents of the "cat box" becomes observed and that loved one becomes set in stone as the "real" one?). I don't know anymore, now that I think Shannon is also Beatrice. It's all so fucking complicated. Perhaps the biggest piece I'm missing is how Battler fits in. The last scenes I saw were the ones with Shannon and Battler going on their secret "dates" and the one immediately after that at the funeral where Will explains some things. So eventually Shannon had to give up on Battler ever returning I guess and George was a replacement of sorts, but how does his sudden return set off a freaking mass murder? And you know, wasn't Battler supposed to be that baby given to Natsuhi, not Shannon? But now they're saying it was Shannon (or some other servant if I'm wrong)? That has to tie in some how, but I just don't understand how this all fits together. Well, I suppose that's what the next scenes will hint at so I should just shut up, be patient, and read. Also, I halfway expected that baby to be the fucked up incest child of Kinzo and the daughter Beatrice when it was first introduced but I didn't actually think that would be the case. Kinzo, what the hell, man? Don't tell me how wrong I am and don't give me any hints. Just laugh, laugh at my horrible foolishness. I felt like I had to put down my thoughts somewhere so I can go back and laugh at how dumb I am. The game is right, sharing your harebrained theories with others is one of the best part of mystery novels. Quote

Nerathim Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I'm now about 2/3rds or 3/4ths of the way through Episode 7 of Umineko. Behold the headache and most of all : the incredible Tea Party. *giggle* Quote
Berilium Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 No matter how justified they might be, ~1500 CGs of h content is overkill no matter how you look at it. Rose, BookwormOtaku and Vokoca 3 Quote
Vokoca Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 To be fair, this ridiculous number is caused mainly by the h-scenes consisting of a single CG with about 30 variations for it, and regular event CGs amount to 10-20 very similar images too. Well, even still that is ~10 h-scenes per route, which means about 50 h-scenes in total. Zeno put it rather well, it is very much sex with story on top, not the other way around. That makes me curious about h-scene counts with nukige that don't even bother with the plot in the first place... I can only imagine the numbers are even crazier then. Quote
Down Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 That makes me curious about h-scene counts with nukige that don't even bother with the plot in the first place... I can only imagine the numbers are even crazier then. Steve talked about 86 H-scenes for the recently released Onikin. He also pretends it has a plot he might read though In other news, I'm starting my first full-fledged VN in japanese, after having tested the waters with Chiruchiru Michiru. 'twill be Draculius, on Clephas' advice. So far a trap osananajimi and a kinda-loli-maid-vampire with a big-breast-milf revertible option got introduced. Why not. (That description of the game might not be accurate with regard to its relevant content) Quote
Desert35 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Just finished Kotori's route in Rewrite and I loved it!! I love how we discover the loneliness she was in during most of her life ans why se didn't really want to be to close to Kotarou But why did the cute Chizuru killed the Key!! Quote

Vokoca Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 W-What? They don't really do it for me a lot of the time, but there was quite a number I did enjoy. It's weirdly specific though. Kenshin_sama Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I can handle scat, but not really looking forward to it. I'll read Euphoria for the plot. But damn... o.o (Warning, contains really gruesome text.) https://twitter.com/CafeDX/status/516037537132204032/photo/1 Quote

Never been good at solving mysteries and I'd given up on doing anything by that point. I congratulate you two for being able to make deductions and reasoning in that point Mr Poltroon 1 Quote

Vokoca Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Did you like the scat? /slapped They were going to continue that? I thought I had to give up on it. Oh yeah, those were the best! Truly euphoric--! No but really, this and all sorts of other dark fetished, including all sorts of BDSM play and relationships just go over my head completely. I admit it was fun (and sometimes even unintentionally funny) to see all the strange things they came up with, but it definitely didn't get me excited in any sort of way. Didn't they officially announce it recently? Would be weird if they suddenly dropped it again. I can handle scat, but not really looking forward to it. I'll read Euphoria for the plot. It is placed in such a bad spot that I have seen it around 4 times at the very least. Well the CGs anyway, wasn't crazy enough to re-read the text. Quote

Oh well. Gonna wait for it to be finished. It's 30% done, as far as I'm concerned. Quote
Kosakyun Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Yaaaaaay, I didn't say something stupid! Honestly, I'm just surprised that it's getting officially translated at all. Most of the nukige I've seen that got translated was fetish stuff, but nothing quite as messed up as Euphoria sounds, just stuff like (fairly mild) BDSM, maids, lolicon, and consensual incest. Kind of a big jump to go from that to scat. Maybe the head of Mangagamer is a closet scat lover. Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Finished both of Kanata's routes in DDC. I have to say I like the first route better if mainly because the second one felt a little short and I kind of like Kanata's interactions with Sora better in the first route than the second. What else makes better romance than a couple enjoying the spring cherry blossoms right next to the decapitated corpse of the devil they just killed? Quote
