Finished the demo for Kyonyuu Fantasy 2 if...and it was honestly pretty boring considering even with some of the differences written in it still mostly felt like a retread of KF2's first chapter which I considered a weak chapter because it felt too similar to the beginning of the first KF. I will say it had some good things like the scenes with one of the new heroines, Ruin meeting Rusalca earlier than in the original game and I think the game did give a better indication of the non-human inhabitants of the kingdom being second class citizens, something the original game could have used more of. The problem is that even with those it still felt like I was looking at too much of the same. I know it's a remake, but I just couldn't help but come away wishing I'd seen more new stuff. Here's hoping the main game will be better

arc in Muv Luv Alternative. Was pretty nice and oh gods Takeru finally got his shit together

 

I do not know how far I am into the VN overall, but heck that was a long episode. I think an episode is an arc, would that be correct?

You're not even halfway but the arcs will be a bit shorter now. Also you probably will get sucked into it so much you won't see it pass.

Well, I finished Umineko yesterday, and wow. What a hell of a journey. I feel like my routine is in shambles since I was reading that every day for a few hours a day for a month straight. I have this huge urge to read more Umineko but there's nothing left to read! Now I'm reduced to listening to the soundtrack repeatedly. I'm realllly tempted to pick up Higurashi again after dropping it a year ago after the first chapter.

The route's been decent but between Akihito's pretentious monologues and the heavy handedness of the story's theme there'd better be a good payoff to all of this.

I expected better but it was really good and the fighting scenes are even better than FSN's, imo.

Too much H-scenes, underused character (apart from Touko and Suzu that's the case for everyone) but whatever it's a great VN with great routes and really hilarious moments. (and I hardly laugh)

Currently I read Deardrops. I started it because it was alphabetically the next one in my VN folder. So I didn't expect very much out of it. Till now I've finished Kanade's route first and now I'm close to complete the Rimu route.

 

My impressions so far are... it is really awesome. Like I said, i wasn't expecting much but what I've got is great. I like all the Heroines and there are really good side characters. The whole story is good and there are so many twists in it. And also I really like the protagonist. And finally I also like the whole drawing style.

 

So I look forward to the completion of it. Till now I think I'll rate it with 9 or maybe a 10. It really surprised me

I'll investigate the truth of that statement. But honestly I doubt it and think that it only is a personal opinion  .

 

But it will be really hard for the other to compete against Kanade's route.

And you are sure I do / did the best with Kanade and RIMU ? Or did you mean RIHO ? Because till now Rimu looks more like fanservice. But that don't mean it can not also be enjoyable.

Oh, right. Rimu and Riho, their names are too similar. It's Rimu's and Yayoi's routes that are fanservice.

Basically Rimu and Yayoi's routes are something like half or a third of the length of Riho's. They're short little bonus routes, almost. They're not all that bad, they just don't have much substance to them. Kind of disappointing that half of the routes in a 4 route game are like that but it's made up for in the other two. Riho's is the official true route and is longer than Kanade's by a bit, and is the better one, IMO.

...then that news broadcast happened and holy shit I had to FORCE myself to save and quit the game

I was damn surprised when Marimo died (the first time), I actually checked three times that she had actually died. Plus the way she died ....... that was the biggest shock in the whole game for me.

I can copy and paste the translation fix into the game folder but they don't replace anything. I haven't noticed any lines being changed, even some of the incorrectly written ones, but I'm not sure if it's because the fix isn't very comprehensive  or if it just didn't work.

Actually there is alot more you can do with Umineko you see. Umineko is a pretty unique mystery in that the answers are not outright revealed, as I am sure you have noticed. And honestly, I just did a second reread of Umineko recently (first time I read it was a year ago), and let me tell you, its almost like reading a completely different story on a second read, especially once you know how to interpret the "fantasy" scenes, reconcile them with the underlaying "mundane" truths, and try to piece them together to find out the "heart" of the culprit, that is the person behind Beatrice. Said person reveals themselves in episode 7, but even then, can you say you understood their motive?

 

Also, there's a Umineko manga written by Ryushii07 that provides extra visual clues to the mystery.

As for Higurashi, its great, but I found Umineko more  enjoyable overall.

 

As for what I am currently reading, I am on the second heroine's route of comyu (been slowly going through it).

Well, I understand all that. I'm not about to immediately reread Umineko, though.

 

It seems unfortunate that the fan support for Higurashi is much less than Umineko's. There are no complete voice patches, for instance. They never got around to porting it to ONScripter so they can do a more complete job of backporting the console content. And I still can't figure out if this translation edit patch is doing anything. *sigh*
