nohman Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I picked up Utawarerumono again after stalling on it pretty early on last year. I don't have a particularly strong impression one way or another so far, beyond the MC's voice acting kinda annoying me for same strange reason. I've heard good things, so I do think I'll end up with a positive impression of it though. Quote
LiquidShu Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Since this regards what I will be playing I hope you guys don't mind me asking yet another question. Below is my current cart and I decided to spend all of my the majority of my free-to-spend money on vn's. Comes out to $223.75 (or close to it I forgot the cents). That is with the $14.50 5 - 10 business day tracking + insurance shipping. The money isn't the major issue here but I would like to know what you guys/gals would take out or replace. The candidates for me would be: Yumina the Ethereal or Koihime Musuo (<--- does this have more action than romance?) Once this transaction is complete that means no new music, no RP (god bless), and no new figures for a few months. Quote
LiquidShu Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Koihime Musou doesn't have much action OR romance. There's some romance, but it's incredibly shallow, and it mostly feels like a harem comedy with an unusual setting and a LOT of h-scenes. Also it's not very good. Yumina the Ethereal is decent. The story bits are amusing and vaguely interesting, the gameplay is so-so. A pretty average game overall. My least favorite among those in the cart is probably My Girlfriend is the President. It's alright but nothing special. Better than a few officially translated moege, though. If you want mindless perverted comedy it may be up your alley. Well there goes my Three Kingdoms. Going to pass on Yumina as well then. I don't really want to purchase "so-so" games since these will be all I have for a while. I was looking for at least one mindless read :') I like the lovey-dovey stuff. I was also thinking of: Cartagra ~Affliction of the Soul~ Steins;Gate and Deardrops. Quote
Decay Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I'm of the opinion that Steins;Gate is the best VN to be translated, so take a guess on where I stand on that. Quote
LiquidShu Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I'm of the opinion that Steins;Gate is the best VN to be translated, so take a guess on where I stand on that. Steins;Gate would probably replace Demonbane or Little witch if I do opt for it. Quote
Decay Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 If you want story, then you won't find any in Romanesque. That game is like 99% magical slice of life. The gameplay is a bit addicting but also kind of basic. I liked it but don't expect anything even remotely deep from the gameplay or story. Demonbane has this ridiculous over-the-top atmosphere to it in terms of action, story, and characters. Steins;Gate does have a lighthearted first half but it tells a much more serious, interesting, and thoughtful story than Demonbane. Quote

If Little Witch is mostly about the cute art and gameplay then would Hunnie Pop be a cheaper replacement for it? is Demonbane like Ayakashibito? Quote
Decay Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Huniepop is completely different. Romanesque actually has a LOT of text. It's just mostly (literally) random slice of life scenes. It's amusing, they do that stuff well, but that's seriously all there is to it. Huniepop has almost no real dialog, it's purely a dating sim and match 3 game. Demonbane is sort of like Ayakashibito in that they're both chuuni action games, but there are a lot of differences. It's action oriented from the very start, and the action and characters get pretty absurd. The romance factor isn't particularly strong. And of course stars a private detective adult instead of a teenage high school student. There are no school life scenes, or even any equivalents. edit: Although I have not played School Days, i feel like I should comment on it. It is a VERY divisive title, it seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it game. Maybe pre-ordering Shiny Days when you haven't played School Days is a bit hasty. Quote

I feel like if that is all Romanesque is then I might as well go watch one of Nosebleed's recommendations. Ken-kun has high regards for Demonbane but if it is pretty much all action then I might have to pass for now. I like some action in vn's but I much rather watch it or even read it in manga. Your point regarding School Days has made my life crumble to ruins. Jk but now I have to redo my list :/ Be right back! Edit: And I am back! So now that everything as I know it went to ruin and then I was forced to build it back up I am now missing some pieces. I will be picking up School Days, My GF is the President, and ef - a fairy tail of the two. Once I finish School Days (God help me) I will get Shiny Days. Now I can replace ef with something else if you think that is a good option or should I keep it? I am getting My Girlfriend is the President gosh dang it! Quote
Cythnar Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Shu, Koihime is like, 95% porn after the first couple hours. xD Quote
LiquidShu Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Shu, Koihime is like, 95% porn after the first couple hours. xD Meh I can pass on that then. I will spend money on anything but nukige (for the most part). There are exceptions with every rule but I don't want to pay $50 for straight up porn. Oh yeah, about that buying only three games... I lied. What we learned from tonight: I have no self control and I saved money so I have extra to spend on another game or music. With shipping is $197.15. Out of my original $226 to spend I have $28.25 to spend. <-- Will be going to another vn or most likely EVE since I wanna play it. Maybe Rito Points though (hopefully not). Quote

Especially the blue haired chick (name escapes me atm), she was awesome. EVE is also good. That is, if you can handle a game you'd have to spend 6 months or more "playing" before you can actually do anything worthwhile. I enjoyed it, though. Definitely not an instant-gratification game, though. Quote
Wonderfullyevil Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Finished Lise's route in Symphonic Rain. I liked it overall, but Grave's attitude was too ridiculous to take seriously. His sprites don't help in the slightest. The ending was a bit tacked on too. On a more positive note, Lycienne was really nice to listen to. On to Torta, I have high expectations. Quote
FinalChaos Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Well I guess I'm a bit too late to comment on LiquidShu's dilemma. Anyways out of the vns you named I think the best ones are Demonbane and Steins;Gate. And ........... I absolutely hated School Days ........ I consider it the worst vn I have ever read........... Well you have already bought the stuff so I just hope that you find those vns worth it. Quote
Abyssal Monkey Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 So I loaded up Kamidori and went to the replay area to mastur review my old scenes, and I just now noticed that the preorder bonus content character that Yuela plays as is Selica from Ikusa Megami. It totally wasn't the completely obvious "the fans who preordered this know all about the story of your character" line that gave the hint either. I was also reading I/O-II, but I decided to shelf it for a while. I'm suddenly not in the mood for four different stories, or science fantasy for that matter. The way that game does it's glossary is really neat, and props to Lemnisca Translations to translating what appears to be the entirety of that glossary. I think my Cross Channel is cursed. I lost my save file for the second time, so I need to skip read ~15 hours worth of text and attempt to solve all my choices the same again. Quote
Wonderfullyevil Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Well, still on Torta's route, but I just need to let something out. SECRET (Torta's song) IS SO DAMN PRETTY. WHY IS IT SO DAMN PRETTY? WHYWHYWHYWHY? It's my favorite of the songs so far. I'll try not to do this again. Quote

I just didn't want to get anything that is mainly action. 50/50 For School days man, I think I will like it. If it is anything like the manga I read, which can heavily revolve around cheating, then I should be fine. Quote
Cythnar Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I think I'll be trying a bit of Princess Evangile along with a hint of Deardrops and Imouto Paradise as a side dish. Quote
XReaper Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 regarding demonbane, from my point of view its rather focused on some creepy, otherworldly dickks, instead of action & plot. biggest character development has been the very moment, whereal azif surpassed the laws of physic & enabled her pussy swallowing that huge mass of flesh in one go. Quote
Down Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I'm (finally) done with SubaHibi. My first actual eroge in japanese! *self-claps* It was... great. I think. I actually have no idea what I think of this game as a whole, as I could only comment on its parts right now. I need everything to simmer down before I can say something about it, to be honest. Meanwhile this screen can probably fairly sum up the game: Zantax, Ayana, Nyanko and 1 other 4 Quote
TexasDice Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I think I'll be trying a bit of Princess Evangile along with a hint of Deardrops and Imouto Paradise as a side dish. Deardrops should be read in one go. And do Riho's route last. Quote
B0X0R Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Started playing Utawareumono. Man do I love that VN. I stayed up all night until the sun rose playing it. The only downside of it so far is the h-scenes. They just seemed forced and don't flow well with the plot. Honestly it would be a lot better without them. Quote

So I'm not the only one who thought that overall it wasn't that amazing of action? To me it just seemed like a bunch of strung together events with no correlation besides "collecting her pages". Quote
LiquidShu Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 OK, after all of that I ended up canceling my order. I picked the wrong shipping option and none of my stuff would be here until late August (lol). So, I am redoing my cart and taking of Shiny Days, as painful as that is for me. Still getting the other five for now. Instead of the packaged versions I ordered last time going for digital this time. I like collecting stuff but no where to put it. Quote
Wonderfullyevil Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Finished Torta's route. I loved it. It had everything I loved about the previous routes and made it better. The somber atmosphere was now even more somber, and Torta's an amazing character. I liked her songs a lot too. The cliffhanger tho... Arietta's first appearance was really nice too. On to Al Fine. High expectations. Quote
