LightBladeNova Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I guess Asairo was indeed far too good to be true huh... oh well Quote
Erogamer Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I would have like to seen Sukimazakura to Uso no Machi Quote
LightBladeNova Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 If anything, all-ages should be saving the VN market, I would imagine... o.O Quote
Decay Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Please for the love of god don't start another argument about all-ages titles.  My thoughts on the announcements:  Supipara: Obvious. Maybe it will be good, but it did nearly bankrupt Minori, I wonder if it will have any more success in the west. Yuri Ghosts: Looks cute and funny and is full of yuri, I'm down. Was kind of obvious in retrospect but I forgot about its existence. Princess Evangile fandisc: Eh. It's a fandisc, I think people here have been too hyped over it. It will be shorter and will contain much less substance than you're imagining. I'm a little annoyed at the fake out a couple weeks ago but I guess it worked in surprising me. Tokyo Babel: Ehh... Some people are saying it's good but it also has mixed ratings, but EGS's ratings on all-ages titles are unreliable at best. Personally it doesn't look all that great to me, hopefully I'm wrong. The Shadows of Pygmalion: Ehh... Some people are saying it's good but... wait. Also, no fair MG, this is cheating having both new partner titles be from the same developer. Suzu Fanatic 1 Quote
Erogamer Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 It hurts it because less and less 18+ titles get released. You saw it at this con's announcements for MG. Also, look at Sekai Project as an example. They totally screwed up with GNK. Quote
Nyanko Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 If you compare these times with 5 years ago... people wouldn't even dream about VNs like these going on steam. For the sake of making visual novels a more popular "genre" in the west, translating and officially releasing these titles is a good thing. It is definitely improving the "market" for them, or do you expect that all those 18+ titles nobody wanted to read before, will be super popular when on steam.. I don't think so. In order to succeed, it has to become more mainstream, they can't do that while being porn games. Quote
Satsuki Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Princess Evangile fandisc: Eh. It's a fandisc, I think people here have been too hyped over it. All people care is that now they can ichaicha with Ruriko, Konomi and Tamie. Length doesn't matter. Quote
Erogamer Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Mainstream...............mainstream could also ruin it for the hardcore community. I personally am sick of censorship. These are not kids for games, so I don't know why the insistence on all ages titles. Heck, even said "all ages" titles on Steam ask for your birthday.  Edit: I am not going to continue to argue this. I think many here know how I stand on this. I guess all we can do is see what the future holds. Quote

Nyanko Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 A normal company won't ever lincense for the hardcore community only, if they're smart. Unless they have too much money to spend... Quote

Also, no fair MG, this is cheating having both new partner titles be from the same developer. I'm not sure if you'll find my opinion trustworthy since I'm actually translating the game, but I've read all Higashide's vns, and I didn't find Tokyo Babel that much different. The poor reception on egs is probably because most of the fans were used to his titles having more sexual tension as opposed to pure chuuni stuff that Tokyo Babel is (incidentally, even Dies Irae is not *that* highly rated on egs, people over there tend to like steamy stuff instead).  I originally was interested in translating any propeller title as long as it was written by Higashide, and I'm pretty happy I got this. I hope you guys will like it, too. XReaper 1 Quote
Nyanko Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I am happy with these titles getting an official translation! As long as they're not only releasing moege and short VNs only, it's fine with me. Maybe its because I didn't hype myself for titles like Dies irea, only secretly hoped that little miracle would occur. Quote
Suzu Fanatic Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 PROPELLER!!!! :D *starts to hyperventilate*  I doubt Ayakishibito will ever get localized, sadly, since the fan patch has already touched it (in the eyes of MG, and their previously vocalized feelings on fan TLs - not my own feelings.)  Other stuff is pretty cool too, I honestly never thought I would be so impressed with MG, lol. I have a lot to look forward to, formost still being Himawari.  EDIT: Looks like you were right on the money when it came to Propeller though, Decay, not bad. Quote
Nyanko Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 As far as I remember I don't think anyone here in this thread thought so, no. Quote
Decay Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 There was a brief window where it seemed marginally possible but I dismissed the idea pretty quickly. You would kind of have to be delusional to believe that.  Apparently the PE Fandisc dismissal a few weeks ago wasn't a fake out, at least not intentionally so. They had no plans for it until right after Doddler made that ask.fm response indicating that it wasn't happening, when Moonstone got in touch with them.  Also I feel silly for thinking Tsuriotsu was so obvious but I am still really confused as to why that's not happening. This isn't even me being a fanboy or anything, the market looks right for it. I wonder what MG finds unappealing in it. Quote
kyrt Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015  Seriously, though, this thread isn't about the merits of all-ages vs the merits of 18+. I'd rather not, but I'll start gankin' posts if I need to. We all know what'll happen if this area of discussion continues. Now just to make a point but technically it would not completely be off topic as the fact that 4/5 announcements for Mangagamer were for Steam oriented titles (yes I'm counting Evangile) so a case could be made that Steam is causing a decline in the release of 18+ products...but I digress because while that may be true for this particular event it is in by no means an account of all visual novels. It would be like saying visual novel companies are killing fan-translations...it's rather inaccurate. If someone would like to create a thread and create a statistical analysis of visual novels released all ages to 18+ feel free I would be curious about the results.  Going back on topic I'm not overly excited about these announcements but part of that lies in the fact I don't buy visual novels from mangagamer without a hard copy release and unfortunately they announced no new hard copies so it seems unlikely that I'll be picking any of these up unless they get rid of DRM by the time they release.  I have also updated the first post with the 5 mangagamer announcements and mentioned sekai projects panel which will be at the same ustream link as Mangagamer's apparently. I'll update that first post with all sekai project announcements after it happens as well.  I also put up a poll to find out what everyone's favorite mangagamer announcement was. Quote
sanahtlig Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I'll content myself with Beat Blades Haruka. Â That's the only announcement from Mangagamer I'm particularly excited about. Â Kudos to Mangagamer for actually putting effort into the official websites though. Â Also, the trailer for Euphoria is pretty awesome--and Mangagamer actually subtitled it too. Â From JAST, Sonico looks interesting. Â Even though I usually stay away from non-adult titles, rhythm gameplay is something I haven't come across in a VN. Â I'm interested enough to bite. Â I'm also looking forward to the MuvLuv series, which I still haven't played. Â All the better if they're going to update the art and such. Â The seductive possibility of a Kimi ga Nozomu Eien translation, after nearly 15 years of anticipation, is also too titillating to ignore. Quote
kyrt Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015 Gotta go with the Yuri Ghosts~ I would have to agree mainly because I have confidence in Liar-Soft here's hoping it actually ends up being decent. Quote
Suzu Fanatic Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Honestly I'm torn, I'm a huge Minori fan after reading through EF, ....But Propeller....hnnng.... Â Though honestly, think my vote will go with Yuri ghosts as well - we need a good official yuri that isn't a total nukige. (solely basing off vndbs' description, i could be way off) Â EDIT: changed my mind, gotta vote Tokyo babel - I can't betray the company that created Suzu. Â Plus honestly, I can't even begin to count how many times I wished MG, or ANYONE really, would take on a long and serious Chuuni title. (that wasn't already Fan TL'd -Â sorry Grisaia) XReaper 1 Quote
Nyanko Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Voted for Tokyo Babel, because it's the only one of these 5 that was already added to my backlog. Quote
Suzu Fanatic Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 "TB was written by the same guy as Ayakashibito. If you liked one you'll probably like the other (action chuuni stuff)." -Conjueror on Twitter  Ok, before I start nerding out hardcore, I should go play something and keep my mind off of things for at least a year : P Quote
