Your biggest turn-offs in visual novels?

I've played my fair share of visual novels, but the only one that ever made me walk away was some scat and femdom game in which the girl forced the guy to eat her scat. I'm not really into femdom games to begin with, but I think I could find it alright if it had a good story behind it.

On another note relating to your sig, I just started Katawa Shoujo and I'm loving it so far, although I can't really figure out what the pink haired girls' deal is yet lol.

unnecessary long common routes

For some reason I feel the need to argue with this one, but I already know what you mean (or at least I think I do).  It's just that I feel it needs additional qualifiers.

I'd personally change it to not liking common routes that are very long, with heroine routes that are very short.  This can be done well, mind you, but it feels somewhat lacking when you finally go down a heroines route almost for it to instantly be over.

Generally speaking, the longer the individual routes the more I tend to like the game.  This is because:

a) Assuming the routes remain roughly on par with one another length-wise, you get that much more story out of each route - instead of one common route being longer, you get 4-5 different routes being longer.

b) Some games come dangerously close to 'whambamthankyouma'am' progression of confession to kiss to sex to happy ending, more or less one after another.  I'd rather see the long, slow romance where the character's relationship actually gets to develop.

Now, this obviously depends on how crazy you are going with heroines - a game with 2-4 heroines is going to have longer routes than games with 5+ (most of the time, some game makers STILL manage to deliver long individual routes with that many...).

I avoid VNs based around sex generally. Nukige are pretty much no-go's, and even VNs with high sexual content that aren't nukige as such I'm still incredibly iffy about.

On top of that, rape (unless it's essential to the story without being all the story is) and torture are both nope.

Shit writing. If it doesn't seem like it's been read through by someone at least half-literate, then why am I gonna devote my time to doing it for them? People are paid for that.

I'll also not even try playing a game I don't like the art style of, particularly if it's one of those that's made using creepy 3D people instead of being drawn (or at least looking like they've been drawn).

Agree to both of these. Some common routes are simply too long and filled with too much unnecessary stuff that doesn't help the plot at all. It feels like a lot of it is there just to make the game longer. 

And there is always that one char that is awesome, but doesn't get her own route. So annoying *sigh*

Also, nothing is wrong with being turned on with things that most people find disgusting. Instincts are instincts. As long as you are following the law and don't cause harm or distress to anyone, you are free to get turned on by whatever. 

Life is too short to be sticking to things that you only like. Take your time to explore vn genres no matter how fucked up they are to others. Only you know yourself best and you shouldn't let others tell you what to like and not like.

Monster Girl Quest has a lot of femdom and it's an RPG/Visual Novel. It has the game over rape concept where if you lose, you are treated for some nice h-scenes. It's what I recommend if you want to dive into femdom/reverse rape (girl raping the guy) for the first time.
