TheGuy21 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 So, I have narrowed down to the VNs I'll probably play. These beauties. Now, the question at hand...are these free? Or at least a working link for the full game with eng patch. If it's paid, I don't mind at all, I just want to know which ones are free and not. I'm probably gonna enjoy these all, it's gonna be like my playthrough with Skyrim....but with VNs. Overlord87 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) I don't think you can call that "narrow it down" Anyway. Grisaia and G-senjou you can buy on Steam.Kira Kira you can buy on Mangagamer website.Yume Miru Kusuri and Steins;Gate you can buy on JastUsa website.Clannad and MuvLuv were kickstarted and I think they will be released on Steam. Wait for that. For the others you can find a link to the patch on Fuwa's home. The game you can either buy online (probably quite expensive though) or download it for free on some websites (but this is not exactly legal). Edited November 12, 2015 by Overlord87 Quote
Deep Blue Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 none of those vns are free, the only free game that is heart warming is brass restoration which is not on that list Quote
Godskrieg Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 G-Senjou no Maou is on steam, so is Grisaia. (If you want the adult-version Grisaia has a patch I THINK, dunno about G-Senjou.)I'm gonna go ahead and vote for Sharin No Kuni, G-Senjou no Maou, Muv-Luv and Steins;Gate. Do keep in mind that in my opinion Steins;Gate and Muv-Luv are just on different levels from the rest.Check VNDB if you want to actually buy the VN's it usually lists where you can if they have an English licensed version. Teach me senpai... none of those vns are free, the only free game that is heart warming is brass restoration which is not on that list Hahaha, well it was worth a try. I didn't really like brass that much, but maybe in the future, I'll play it. G-Senjou no Maou is on steam, so is Grisaia. If it's in Steam, there is a chance I can buy it. Problem is, some of the VNs here are OP, one was half the price of MTGSV. Quote

Deep Blue Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 visual novels are not cheap, specially if you buy them from japanese websites and from steam you will mostly get censored vns, some of them butchered like if my heart had wings others just the eroge, there are good vn on steam though like end world, ame no marginal, planetarian, fault, etc and clannad is going to be released very soon I almost forgot you can play narcissu for free but is not really heart warming is more like a heart destroying Dergonu 1 Quote

Damn. All the good VNs on Steam are butchered to suck. IFMHHW is spot-on! Kotori's bathtub scene....she's wearing a towel..inside the bathtub..while holding a towel herself...while the dialogue is saying to "cover her up." Genius. But mine is in the mobile version. But I don't know why it says 'Limited Edition', I don't get that part for the IOS. My heart regarding VNs can only take so much, I can't even bear to do the "bad ending" and neutral one with Emi and Lilly in Katawa Shoujo. I just can't! Emi's puppy dog eyes are sooo..kawai. LILLY FOREVER! I don't think you can call that "narrow it down" Anyway. Overlord87 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 The link to steam are for those games that have a Steam release. You can find patches for the others: Hoshizora no Memoria, Sharin no Kuni, Rewrite, etc. Quote

Though there is one confusing thing...I search link in Google, I found: Full game: 1.something GBEng patch: 5.something MB Stuff like these, I don't know which to get. The full game or the eng patch, though the eng patch is just...MB. Is it just a config for the full game dl? Quote
Overlord87 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 The patch is just a patch. You need to have the game already installed, then apply the patch Quote
MercyZombie Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 G-Senjou no Maou is on steam, so is Grisaia. (If you want the adult-version Grisaia has a patch I THINK, dunno about G-Senjou.)There isn't a patch for Grisaia if I understand it correctly. Something which seemed to have pissed off a lot of people that got it through kickstarter. But you can buy the uncensored version from Denpasoft now. It does not have any of the new CGs though. A small price to pay some would say but there it is. Quote
CeruleanGamer Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Steam isnt the place for VNs. I wouldnt dare buy a single VN from it unless it's indie/western style. Those tend to have no erotic content anyway and therefore not censored/cut in any way. Quote

CeruleanGamer Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) I consider it a kudos to the devs for producing such a marvelous game. There's way too much money involved when producing a VN and 80-120 bucks from a single customer probably covers less than 0.5% of their costs.... Give them what they deserve. If it's a VN that is really good and made me love every moment of it, I sometimes go out of my way to buy the collectors/limited/special editions or their other games to show support. You guys should too instead of pirating all the damn time. Without us buying vns, devs will have less motivation to produce higher quality vns. Edited November 13, 2015 by CeruleanGamer Quote

Without us buying vns, devs will have less motivation to produce higher quality vns.the western market is not their target when they release a vns and we are still not their target either, if they sell well here lets say on steam good if they dont too bad, their public is the japanese market, if the company fails is because they didnt sell well there not here, we are just an extra income for them in fact many vns that you are playing are not for selling outside japan in fact almost all of them are forbidden to be played outside japan... you are playing a really really small portion of legally localized vn which again for those ones we are just extra income. Quote
CeruleanGamer Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 It doesnt matter if we are not their target market. Income is income. If a single vn purchase is enough to put a bowl of rice on the dev's tables, it's still support and appreciation that they deserve. If you got the money, pay them up instead of being a stingy/cheap pirate. Quote
Deep Blue Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) I do buy them when I can, I even have many vns on mangagamer that I still haven't even played after many months of buying them, even after pirating I buy them like I did with yume miru kusuri (i beat the novel and then i bought it xD ) still I like to support small doujins on kickstarter and indiegogo I think that's more important and does really make an impact on the companies than lets say buy and support a vn on dlsite, but that's just my opinion.btw this is still not true "Without us buying vns, devs will have less motivation to produce higher quality vns." Mugi Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Who, exactly, said that Yume Miru and Muv Luv were heart-warming VN's? I mean, I guess Muv Luv unlimited isn't bad, but Alternative gave me borderline PTSD, and Yume Miru makes you slog through a sea of despair before you get to the heart-warming parts. Just a warning Quote

Just a warning I will fight for this with every fiber of my being! Muv-Luv is heart-warming, it's an emotional rollercoaster though, you will have moments of sadness and you will have moments of happiness, to be honest I also had PTSD at the end of it, I stood up from my chair a few times while reading it and just went to sit outside and contemplate the meaning of life. But aside from that it had its moments of extreme joy and happy feels for me. Quote
