gijimu Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Hi, I am looking for VN with historical setting and/or militaristic theme. The VN should have serious story and characters (I meant, no moe or gender bender like Sengoku Hime). Alternate history is also fine. Muv-Luv Alternative is my reference for this. Feel free to recommend any. Thanks! Quote
Down Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Hanachirasu comes to mind, so I'll recommend that. Among translated VNs I don't see much else. Quote
XReaper Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 "teito hiten daisakusen" is a good one & should fit your description Quote

Down Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 The same could be said of almost any other genre besides romantic comedy. It's just that the pool of translated VNs isn't very large. Quote
firecat Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 try "Super Robot Taisen - Original Generation", not many people consider it has a VN but the game does have a long story and militaristic theme. Ryosuke route is more serious story than Ryusei route since Ryosuke has been in the military longer and he doesn't care about jokes. Quote
Xelestial Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) This feels like the popular answer, but have you played Hakuoki yet? It is otome but completely serious and fairly historically accurate. A great deal of it is about the final battles up to the beginning of the Meiji restoration period and I feel like I learned a lot from it. Edited November 21, 2015 by XELESTIAL Quote
Kawasumi Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 "teito hiten daisakusen" is a good one & should fit your descriptionand with everything you go and recommend a Mareni VN. G fucking G .But well, it sounds like Hanachirasu is what you're looking for. XReaper 1 Quote
XReaper Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 i beg your forgiveness, but just thinking about mareni (stories + their overly rich & likeable casts - what did you imagine XD) gets me so incredibly wet, seriously now...^^ Kawasumi 1 Quote
AaronIsCrunchy Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 eden* has militaristic themes, and is also brilliant. So that'd be my suggestion ^.^ Quote

I will try on this one.try "Super Robot Taisen - Original Generation", not many people consider it has a VN but the game does have a long story and militaristic theme. It is all untranslated though, I am afraid I won't make up all of it. Quote

Clephas Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Gunjou no Sora wo Koete is a good choice... unfortunately, it isn't translated. In fact, it was what came to mind when you said 'militaristic', because there aren't any elements of fantasy or sci-fi, and it portrays a Japan in the middle of a modern civil war, with the protagonist being a fighter pilot on the rebels' side. gijimu 1 Quote
okok Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Cartargra and Kara no Shojo are set in the 50's. Historical is rather broad Quote

It seems quite nice on VNDB. If I use text hooker or VN reader to read it, will it become difficult to read? Quote
Deep Blue Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 it's from the same writer who did a chapter in narcissu 3rd messias (i think it was) and it wasnt really hard to read but it was a pure utsuge, also there is a lot of english on the novel, it's really funny to hear everyone talking in english but actually speaking gibberish xD Quote
