I'm still reading Gahktun, from the What a beautiful series, and since I'm reading MG's version [uncensored of sorts], I'd like to know how they handled the sex scenes on steam.

I'm still on Chapter 7 [the one about Emilia], so please, don't spoil me :D

Well, the two sex scenes that I can recall now are

the extra scene from chapter 2, which to me seems to very important to the future plot, since it shows the "villain" using sex as a way to find what he seeks.

The second one is the one in the beach. Tesla is fighting the possible trans character Berta and, when he attacks, the game shows his breasts [which, unfortunatelly, made some characters call him a girl, which in my opinion was unnecessary and stupid, since he always considered himself as a man] Anyway, this part particulary deals a lot with Berta's character, but it still is a boobs scene.

And the last one, the most important to me until now is Emilia's and Louis "killing our innocence" sex scene, which is indeed the most important one for the plot. However, just like the first is quite explicit.

My question is: how does the Steam version work around the problems with sex on the platform, and what did MG/Liar-soft do to compensate the lack of them? This is me assuming there was some kind of censorship, which may or may not have happened because of Yurirei.

On a side note, I simply love how this series deal with sex, always related to the plot somehow and not disposable and, in common terms, utterly shit.

So far as I'm aware, and I'd like to think I'm pretty well aware, the Steam version is the same as MangaGamer's.

Why, then, was it not censored? So far as I know, and I'd like to think I know pretty well, no inferior genitals are actually displayed at any point, and those are the problematic ones.
Therefore, this release pushes every boundary; not that there was that much of a shock wave or coverage over it.

So now sex is allowed, but without vaginas appearing? I mean, that is awesome, and opens a lot of possibilites to future companies using Steam.

I'm glad to know it is also full on Steam, because, like I said, these are very important.

That does seem to be the logical conclusion, for now anyway.  I believe that was the exact same justification that Kindred Spirits used to get a 100% uncensored release.

However, decisions in this area tend to be ... inconsistent.  Two data points does not a general policy make.  Taken literally, "sex without vaginas is okay" might appear to imply that a version of (say) Imopara that cut out all the sex scenes where you can see the lady parts, would be approved.  I am, uh, highly skeptical any such thing would be approved.

In other words, it might be okay for characters in your game to enjoy a slice of pizza now and then in a story about something else.  But that doesn't mean that pizza delivery simulators are okay now, as long as they don't show the sausage holders.

(Granted, Imopara maybe not the best choice; maybe a third of the game would be left.  That's not my point :)

Err, that was kind of my point.  I guess I was a bit too subtle about it.

Yes, for the foreseeable future, Valve is only going to approve story-heavy games with the occasional shift into R-rated erotica.  My key takeaway is that Valve will ultimately be the only judge of what is/isn't acceptable.  It will be like the App Store; inconsistently applied guidelines that are in practice heavily influenced by politics and media pressure, even though the organization will always deny it.

The key is ESRB rating Imho, if they manage to get an M rating steam will most probably publish it. I believe if the sexual content doesn't surpass a certain percentage of total playtime, no genitals are shown, there are no controversial themes (blatant rape, corpofagy etc.), and there are no explosions of corporal fluids, the game should get an M rating easily.

I believe some games could simply be toned down a little and there's no real need to cut the eroscenes completely.
