I feel like I am beating a dead horse(or a live one if you're into that kind of thing) but I recently came across the first h-scene In F/SN. It was bad first off it was completely pointless, really magical semen transfer? Really? If I hadn't braced myself mentally before hand I would've probably uninstalled the game, it just pops in out of nowhere. I guess it's kind of one of those things you experience once out of curiosity and never bother to do again.

Heh, you should see the levels of ridiculousness in the h-scenes in the otherwise superb Ayakashibito. Although, since I'm a horny bastard and the h-scenes in FSN are few and far between it really didn't bother me..... unlike the entire first route of the vn. Saber is RIDICULOUSLY overrated. 

You should also keep in mind that FSN was the follow up to Tsukihime which featured similar h-scenes, which was a pretty big success. So I doubt they were put into the narrative for the sake of the story, but rather for the sake of sales numbers. Kinda like how today Type-moon refuses to do anything except godawful spin-off projects for FSN.

There is no such thing as a good Type-moon h-scene.  Nasu hated including sex in his games, and this feeling is shared by a lot of chuuni-specialists (also known as 'high-and-mighty-prudes).  However, he did so because people didn't buy VNs without h-scenes back then.  Even now, only the most established brands can get away with it in Japan... or otomege companies (with the occasional anime/manga to VN convert).

Also, one of the reasons for Nasu's half-hearted efforts when it came to the Saber and Rin sex scenes was the fact that his own setting made it so that sexual contact was one of the most convenient ways of forming a magical connection, unfortunately.  The scene that replaces it in the Realta Nua version isn't much better or less awkward, but at least it has the virtue of enthusiasm, hahaha. 

Sex in VNs rarely makes sense, in any case.

That aside, I didn't mind it - I first played F/SN w/o knowing anything about it - so i actually went in expecting nothing but a porn game (this was back before I realized VNs can actually possess interesting stories). I completely forgot it was a eroge until the the first scene came along, lol.  

I'm one of the outcasts that felt it was all fine. People can say it's stupid or jarring - but ultimately, that's what suspension of disbelief is for. If you can believe in summons and magic, sexual energy really isn't that much of a stretch - esp. because there is such thing a genuine sexual energy (though it's not "magic" its just charged hormones+emotions - one could put together a weak defense that spirits thrive on strong emotions).

Ain't that the truth. Half the fun of Fate/Zero was in observing Urobutcher try to deal with this pile of black and white morality that he just doesn't do. In the end, half the time she's waaaaay over there dealing with a subplot, and the other half is spent on her being lectured by pretty much the entire cast taking turns.

That's some Bleach sh*t my man, I didn't really mind this H-Scene on a grand scale I guess. The only problem I have with it was the fact that it just comes in out of nowhere this first one is probably one of the least awkward ones. I feel these Heaven's Feel ones are going to have me rolling.

The need to make another proper F/SN game. If Nasu can use "magical semen transfer" for story purposes he can easily make up some kind of excuse to make another Fate game.

Actually it's the opposite - ignore what others say and decide for yourself. That first H-scene is the most bizarre - the others feel a lot better, contextually. HF's being the most fitting.

Agreed with pretty much everybody else: the first H-scene is pretty weird, the Rin H-scene is also not great, and the Sakura ones in Heaven's Feel make sense and are somewhat more interesting from a plot perspective.

For whatever reason, the idea of transferring magical power via sex was already implanted in my head as being perfectly ordinary, if a bit ecchi, before I read F/SN... maybe by Jim Butcher's Dresden Files? At any rate, it's a stock explanation in fantasy stories, and it usually isn't hard to make it jive with a given universe's explanation of "magic", including the F/SN explanation.

BTW, you can reply to multiple people in a single post, and it'll make the mods (especially Zeno) happier.

Thank you will try to do that I completely forgot that that is a possibility. And I guess if I think about it, magical semen transfer does fit the setting. Kind of sound like something that would be in the witcher. I guess it's the modern fantasy setting that threw me off a little

I just remember working on the fan translation of Tsukihime, many years ago, back when Ryuusoul and TakaJun were actually still around.  Back then I didn't know even the piddling Japanese I know now, and so I was just a proofreader.  Well, I picked at random basically for the files I wanted to proofread (this is back when they were using the many-cooks method).  I happened to grab Hisui's h-scene.  Or I should say, scenes; they make love three times in a row!  And it was truly dreadful ... ye gods.

 

Hisui:  You're dying.  Let's do it.

Shiki:  Say what now?

Hisui:  Magic healing pussy.  Want some?

Shiki:  Well, if you put it that way.

*smooth jazz*

Hisui:  You pulled out!

Shiki:  Well, duh.
