Dergonu Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I would like some shorter VNs that I can read in between longer games to get a bit of a break from being in one setting for too long. I'm looking for something that is: 1: Short. (So 2-10 hours or below on VNDB.) 2: Has an engaging story. I don't care much about the genre, but I want the VN to be interesting and intriguing. If the story is good and serious, feel free to suggest nukige. (Goofy nukige settings is a no-no, though.) 3: Not an utsuge. (Nakige is fine, utsuge not so much.) 4: Preferably untranslated, as I'll be reading it in Japanese. If you have something that does fit that I don't have on my VNDB list, then TLed suggestions is fine as I'll just read the JP version instead. 5: No gameplay elements. Horror type stories/ dark themed stories are probably among my favorites when it comes to short reads like these. But like I mentioned above, the genre doesn't matter as long as the story is good and interesting. The most important aspect is that the story interests me and keeps me reading. Stories with plot twists is a plus. Please don't suggest Nekopara or the Majikoi A series ... Quote

Don't you dare say that when you haven't even read Narcissu Seriously though, Read it. It's not particularly depressing (at least, not to me), and it'll make you think about death in ways you've probably never thought about death before. Zalor Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I agree with John, since you haven't read Narcissu I feel like you should make an exception for it. Otherwise Phenomeno is a great suggestion, and I would also recommend True Remembrance. Quote

Chronopolis Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) Glare (use a walkthrough if you get stuck, instead of guessing) (http://akimasanari.sakura.ne.jp/) It's a really quality AI story. Also the herione is the only tsundere character that I've liked ever. I'd also sort of recommend the author's other work ayakashigami. Edited January 6, 2017 by Chronopolis Dergonu 1 Quote

Obviously don't know that many JP-only releases very well, but if I had to pick a dark, short VN to recommend, it'd be that. EDIT: Here's the post I made talking about it. Hm, looks pretty interesting, and thanks your post on it. I would probably have read the original had you not linked that I'll check out the remake sometime for sure.
