no cutscenes in remember11

I just started playing remember11 but none of the cutscenes play. I can view them normally by opening up the videos in the game folder. I used to have CCCP but I uninstalled it. That didn't fix the issue though. I've also tried running it as an admin, in compatibility mode (xp sp3) and taking ownership/unchecking read only on the game folder. None of those worked. I'm on windows 10 64 bit atm. And yes I am using japanese locale.

any ideas?
