desertkona Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 What is the difference between denpasoft and steam. Beside the removed 18+ scene in steam version. I want to know story/plot wise which on is better I am afraid that the 18+ scene of grisaia will consist of good plot/story build up. Like wonderful everyday down the rabbit-hole VN, the 18+ scene is core and mandatory to the story, I love this VN Thanks in advance Quote
adamstan Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 I haven't read it yet, however yesterday I bought steam version. It's worth noting that currently both are same price - Denpasoft has $16 price to match summer sale price of all-ages version on Steam. Quote
Okarin Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 Grisaia seems to have decent H, that's definitely not its weakest point. Me, I'm having problems enjoying the common route, and I don't like Yuuji that much. So if you don't have the same problem, get the whole game (with H) if you can. Review the H flavour in VNDB to see if it matches your liking. Earnest 1 Quote
Dreamysyu Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 I'd say, unless you are extremely anti-porn and h-scenes literally make the game unplayable for you, go for the denpa version. Even excluding the h-scenes, the Steam version has a lot of mature content cut out or toned down, and apparently Japanese have very strange conditions for what content they conciser mature. Some story-related scenes are majorly changed, and I personally prefer the way how these scenes were handled in the original version more. Akshay 1 Quote
r0xm2n Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 Steam/All ages censors more then just the H scenes (like some sexual jokes). Though ironically, the Steam version still has nudity with barely covered nipples in some scenes. Kajitsu does have an official uncensor patch. But the other 2 games don't. I recommend just getting the Denpa version. For H scenes you don't like, there's always the CTRL key. 16 minutes ago, Okarin said: Grisaia seems to have decent H, that's definitely not its weakest point. The common route IS ........ pretty long though.... Quote
Akshay Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 (edited) The steam version has far more cut out than just porn. Yuuji's monologue is ruined and all sexual humour and innuendo are butchered. While I wont say it was ruined to the extent of IMHHW, its still pretty terrible on steam. Id say even if you dont want h-content, get the denpasoft version and then cntrl skip the h-scenes. adamstan Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 (edited) OTOH I remember @Decay saying in one of the threads, that those changes for all-ages version aren't as big as some posters make them to be, and that those laments about ruining the game are vastly exaggerated. On 21.10.2016 at 9:01 AM, Decay said: The adult humor is still like 95% there. I'm not fully sure on what was changed, but the humor really is still pretty filthy. Sachi will still joke about Yuuji making her wet, Amane will still joke about giving blowjobs, etc. This is one of those things people like to exaggerate, they hear "they toned down some adult humor" and assume the absolute worst. Some=all in their minds. It's still almost entirely intact. One thing they changed for sure was in the Amane route. Reveal hidden contents They removed references to cannibalism in Angelic Howl, changing it to them just going plain crazy or something like that. I went with this version, as from reading various reviews and forum posts I was afraid, that some of the +18 content may be too dark/f*d up for me (I prefer my H to be on the vanilla side). 15 minutes ago, r0xm2n said: Kajitsu does have an official uncensor patch. But the other 2 games don't. That "patch" is basically complete pirated +18 version (as two releases are completely incompatible/different, with all-ages version being port from PSP using different engine AFAIK) - that's why it was shot down. Mr Poltroon Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 Feel free to choose whichever version you would prefer. Either version will provide a complete story. It is only if you compare them side by side that you may start complaining about them, but the purpose of an all-ages version is not to compare side by side. It is to provide a different (less explicit) version of the experience, and that it does. If you have no real reason to reject the 18+ version, go for that one. If you do indeed have a reason, the all-ages version is perfectly fine and enjoyable. desertkona, snowbell55 and adamstan 3 Quote

If you do indeed have a reason, the all-ages version is perfectly fine and enjoyable. Well, I kind of agree, but not quite. On one hand, I agree that the Steam version still provides complete experience. It works well on its own, and if you don't play the other version, you will probably be perfectly okay with it. On the other hand, exactly, if you simply compare these two version to each other, you will notice that a lot of things that were changed in the all ages versions were changed for the worse. I mean, the fact that some sexual humor is cut is not that important. There's still quite a lot of relatively suggestive content (even though it's obviously toned down compared to the other version), and they also left some scenes leading to sex, even though the sex itself was not shown. At the same time, some of the cut or changed scenes also happened to be pretty plot-relevant. The all-ages versions omits a certain amount of details which may seem not very important on their own, but together they still add to the plot and the character development. Some of the changed scenes aren't even of sexual nature, there are some other violent and controversial scenes changed as well. So, in the end, the 18+ version simply handles a lot of little details better. I personally believe that it actually makes it a slightly better game, and I don't really see any real reason why anybody who has an opportunity to read any of these versions should play the other version instead of it, unless they are very anti-porn and even skipping through the h-scenes would make the experience a lot worse to them. At the same time, I agree that it doesn't matter that much which version you play, as it's still the same game and it still works. Edited June 22, 2018 by Dreamysyu Quote
Shaun Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Denpasoft release is better because the Steam release ruins one route and that being Suou Amane's route. Recommending the butchered release is wrong, you shouldn't support such visual novels at all. Quote
PiggiesGoMoo Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 (edited) Funny that you mention Subahibi, I actually thought there were more "unjustified fanservice" h-scenes in Subahibi than in Grisaia. Sure there are h-scenes in Subahibi which fit the plot, but there are several I can think of that definitely don't. With Grisaia, all of the character arcs are romantic, and the romance leads to the h-scenes, so I'd say the h-scenes are "justified". Edited June 23, 2018 by PiggiesGoMoo Dreamysyu 1 Quote
MIUUZICK Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 The Denpa version is far better. In a game with themes like Grisaia's, the H-scenes are never the only things to be removed. Take the Denpa version and skip the H-scenes if you really want to, though some are hilarious (Amane's and Michiru's) and the others show new sides of the girl which, I think, are always cute to see, and it usually develop the relationship between Yuuji and the girl too. But if you really don't like them then just CTRL key through them. Quote
