Fate/Stay Night Crash

While playing Unlimited Blade, after meeting berserker leaves after fighting him for the first time, the game crashes and becomes a tiny green screen that plays the same piece of music every time it occurs... Anyone know how to fix it?

 

Edit: I'm running the unicode Japanese. Also, I cannot simply exit the novel now... i have to force quit it.

What did you already try? I uninstalled and reinstalled it and played through the fate storyline again. 
Did you download your game from Fuwanovel?: No

 

 

EDIT#3: FIXED. I simply deleted the video.xp3 file and it skipped the bugged video and moved on

Few things:  First, give us some details about your PC (see this thread)

 

Second, you mentioned you're playing UBW.  You've played the Fate route, yes?  The game has successfully played the Berzerker roar sound effect?

K, just updated my post, also yes ive completed fate and heard berserkers roar.

Yeah... I used that one, in fact I have tried multiple of them. And the bug happens regardless of whether or not i ctrl-skip over it or normally go through it.

Where did you get the game? You mentioned it's non-fuwa. I'd suggest checking there for other similar issues and workarounds from users with the same game download.

Regardless of where you DLed it, it sucks (this TPB release sucks for sure). There are tons of Fate versions and even more patches for them. The best thing to do is to have original untouched iso images, go to the official patch pages, download latest versions of the patches and apply them. Everything else is outdated.
Edit: TPB says that release is from 2011. I'm pretty sure latest update for that version of Fate was in 2013.
Edit2: As you can read in TPB comments "To fix the issue with tainted berserker, hold ctrl to skip through that specific screen. Not ideal, but works." Not sure if this is the same scene you talking about, but you can try to do the same anyway. Still that release sux.

Basically, get images (.iso format) of the original f/sn install CDs, then apply patches to them. If it's anything like Tsukihime, there might actually be an installer that uses the cd, meaning you can bypass a confusing japanese installation. Given the amount of extra stuff you can get into fate, though... sure seems annoying.

What you don't understand? All of the releases you refer to are equally crappy. Edit: in fact the second one you linked (from 2009) you really should avoid by all means.

1) get original, untouched, unmodified fate ISO, without any pre-installed patches.

2) go to the official websites of the patches you want to have, download latest versions of them and install.

Whether you need to install Fate from ISO first or not depends. Refer to the patch install instructions. I think MirrorMoon's translation will install it for you.

Edit2: also post screenshot of the problem. And have you tried workarounds mentioned in TPB comments?

Yeah, but it can't be helped that almost every second version of these patches is broken and the only ones that known to work fine is a MM translation 3.2. And, IF you need/want it RN patch with update that was released this year (don't remember date).

K, doing that now, and here is a screenshot, it is black though in the screenshot, but whenever I move any type of black coloring over the game the green shows through. Also, there is apparently a video after the first berserker scene, so i'm assuming it crashes there?

Also this "green shows up" sounds pretty confusing, that's why I want screen...

I don't remember where exactly starts UBW video, but if this is the problem, you should be able to skip it. So again have you tried workarounds mentioned in TPB comments? They may not be exactly for the scene you have problem with, but might work.

Edit: also video after prologue or in movie menu works? If yes there is no reason for UBW video not to work.

Well, I haven't seen a video so far... and I completely finished the Fate story

1st video starts right at the end of the prologue before they show you the main menu.
This might be the problem then. Try removing codec packs and stuff, reboot, then install LAV Filters with all settings to default. You can try something else too but I don't know a single case where LAV failed to play video in any given VN.
Go to the extra/movie menu and try to play back videos there.

Also just try to load somewhere before the issue and press+hold left control to see if you;ll be able to get past that point.
^that probably won't help you. While 1st video can be skipped, skipping UBW video is not allowed.

Instead you can try to wait 1.5 min or so. While you can't see it, video might actually play at the background.

Alternatively download this. Put it to the Fate folder and rename it to the patchX.xp3 where X is the number-of-already-existing-patches+1. This should remove UBW video. (though haven't tested, it might not work at all).

Ok, well I just went to extras then movies and whenever I click on the one that is there, the same issue appears! So it looks like that IS the issue. However, sorry but I don't really know what you mean when you say to remove the codec packs and stuff and install LAV filters with settings to default. I did try the other two though.

Video overlay. You won't be able to get a screenshot of it. (You might be able to disable them via dxdiag, or if you have multiple monitors, drag the window so it straddles two --- that causes it to revert to software rendering and so you can then take a screenshot.)

Having the same issue. Using the Fuwanovel version (translated by mirror moon) with an uncensor patch. Crashes right after the berserker graveyard fight scene in UBW aka it cant load the movie scene. Is this issue revolved or does anyone know more about it by any chance?

copied my save data to the new Fate/stay folder en got passed the prologue. Copy the save data back to your original (patched) Fate game and you can continue
