Member titles are incredibly fun. They add a sort of individuality that's very nice. So, I just thought, why not try to add even more of it to the already awesome fuwan forums~

I think adding groups would be nice. I have no idea on how it would work or what would come with it, but for now, I'll just leave the suggestion here.

Well, that's about it. What do you guys think?

I kind of still want that Helper group Aaeru dismissed back when I only wanted it for more fine-grained UAC.

I think it'd add at least some kind of reward for those kind souls helping out a lot, awarded on a case-by-case basis.

Great idea, since "groups" with private forums or custom titles are pretty common in other forums.

Doesn't have to be anything big; have like a group called "Touhou" and its members can choose a title: "Resident of Gensokyou" if they wish.

Nothing big. Just needs a bit of work here and there...

A Discourse on IPB "Groups" Nomenclature:

Member Titles/Ranks: This is the title that appears just under your avatar.  Default titles are based on post count and include:

  • Newbie (0 posts)
  • Member (1-10 posts)
  • Advanced Member (11-30 posts)
  • Senior Member (31-100 posts)
  • Veteran Member (101-300+ posts)

Once a member hit 500 posts, they used to be able to change their member title to a custom message.  I've temporarily disabled this (due to some admin work I've been doing), but this will soon be restored.  Also, I will soon be announcing (in this improvement forum) a big change to the forums which would offer ways for members to change their title pre-500 posts.

Member Groups: Groups are a bigger deal than titles.  IPB's permission system works on a group basis.  Groups include: Members (majority of users), Guests (not logged in), Moderators, Admins, and more.

One way to get around changing users' actual permission groups is to change their banner.  For example, if Nayleen didn't need a separate user-permisison set for the "Helper" group, it would be possible to change the user banner (eg, the blue "Admin" bar under my name, or the pips under members' names) to a custom "Helper" banner for each member we wish to honor.

It sounds like you're talking about neither of the above technical terms -- the "groups" you're talking about are more like clubs or identifiers, correct?  Maybe even badges?  There are lots of ways to do this, some of which I'll actually be proposing soon enough.  But, all that aside, I want to make sure I understand you correctly.

I'm absolutely, 100% behind honoring and recognizing the people who help out with/work on the site.  Did you need a separate permission scheme for those users?  If so, I'll make the new group.  If not, let's discuss other options via PM.

Yep, that's exactly it. I was thinking of having badges and such. Well, if it can be done, that's great~

Regarding recognition, I think a simple and unique "badge" would be enough.

You know how in places like Anime-sharing, the uploaders have a custom "badge" saying "Uploader" next to their name?

Something like that, but it's for the general purposes.

Some stuff I can think of from the top of my head is stuff like:

  • Eroge Knowledgebase (players to talk to for eroge-topics/advice)
  • Korean Translator (Only because I'm Korean and I'd like this title 8D)
  • (Team Name for anything, like translation projects) Leader: e.g. Fuwanovel Translation Team Leader (<-- made up name)

And let your imagination run wild.

But yeah, if you decide on various improvements, do make a thread asking for such suggestions; I'm sure there will be more people willing to share their thoughts.

We seriously need a catch phrase to quote every time someone implies Fuwanovel was actually translating anything. I'm all ears, people!

That said, as of today we've got a "Helper" group which will diversify people who are helping out with the site, but aren't actually part of its staff. They'll get something similar to the badge underneath my name. Membership in that group will be necessary to gain access to the admin panel as well in the future.

It's just a made up name in order to make a suggestion. Don't hate xP

Glad to know that this suggestion is slowly being implemented. Looking forward to seeing some people really working to improve the community

My "Helper" group has been created now under the name "FuwAide" (name courtesy of ) with a shiny badge and hopefully some special privileges pretty soon~.

Incredible :o . I want a shiny badge too. How do I subscribe to it?

Maybe you're already qualified for it as per its definition, being for members who help out with any part of the Fuwaverse?

Yep, I totally am. If you want, I can organize and show how I've been useful~

Besides some twitching on the main blog  (marking some things as spam, editing a few grammar mistakes, posting one or two doujin games) I can pull of the threads in which I've been useful, specially on the technical help (if that counts). I also made a few FAQs for the games and one walkthrough.
