Ok, I'll take it as a given that yall are playing VNs in at least some of your free time... but just what causes you to make the decision to play a visual novel?

I play them when: I'm not interested in actual gameplay/want a story, while I eat, to take a break from work.

I play them usually after a long playthrough of a separate video game or a long session of a multiplayer game, but mostly at night when I'm trying to relax crossing my fingers that hopefully I'll be able to sleep that night.

lol, I would feel the same way... except I know the price of putting homework off all too well, from my early college days (and dropout) a decade past.  Do your homework, get it over with, and enjoy your gaming with a free heart and soul... it is a lot more pleasant that way all around.  My new school life can be defined by these simple words: 'Get it over with as fast as possible.'

This topic made me realize that I've been reading VNs daily for about a year now. Sometimes for as long as 15 minutes per day, sometimes up to 10 hours per day, but I probably haven't missed a single day so far. As for schedule... pretty much every time I have free time on my hands, meaning evenings after work and any other time on weekends. I do have other hobbies, but reading VNs is the most time-consuming one at the moment.

I really like to read VN's at night, I never miss any day if I can help it. I also read them whenever I feel like it, I don't know what makes me feel like reading a VN though. Sometimes when I don't want to study, I guess.

When I'm not on a long break I mostly read VNs during the bus ride to and from university, and if I can find the time I'll often spend a good chunk of the afternoon reading.

During breaks when don't have to worry about studying I sometimes just spend the whole day reading.

I try to read at least two hours each day when I get home from University on weekdays but more (half days) on weekends and on holidays. It's often evening/night when I read them. I don't play much other video games so my free time is quite dedicated for VNs.

usally at weekends, especially at night after spending time improving my english(i have an international exam next week) and studying physics(another exam).

Sporadically and in  large blocks. I tend not to read anything unless I get at least set aside a few hours for it. I like to be engaged and reading it in 15-minute blocks whenever I got the chance just wouldn't satisfy me.

Depends on the VN and where I am in it. For stuff like LB and grisaia with long common routes, I'll read the common route slowly usually in the evening until the story picks up, at which point I usually play it whenever (schedule permitting). For lighter hearted games, I'll usually just read those in the evening to avoid burnout (also applies for things like kamidori).

I usually play at night because my neighbors are pretty loud during a day so the night is only time when I can read them in peace. Also I usually sleep over a day with cotton wool in my ears.

Good VN's don't wait

When the plot is good, the characters too... it becomes N°1 priority.

I have to finish it i'm just too curious.
