Can not open "Ever 17"

Anyone please help me!

I couldn't open Ever 17, there was a message that said "Can't open chara.dat"

I turned off my anti-virus program and re-checked the torrent file, and yes, it turned out that my download didn't complete for some reasons (I think it was because of my anti-virus program)

But when my download really completed, I stopped seeding it and then opened the game folder. It has all the files with the correct sizes. But when I click the exe file (which's not the install one), the game screen just closed itself immediately and then nothing happened.

I use Win xp and already set non-unicode language to Japanese (which's not actually required for this VN)

If anyone know how to fix this problem, please tell me. I really want to play Ever 17 @@

Silly question, but exactly what are you clicking to start the game?

 

Otherwise, all I can recommend is making sure your anti-virus is not stopping the actual program from running, and seeing if anything is still read-only even though you stopped seeding (these things are weird...). Oh, and possibly re-checking the torrent once again... boring, but shouldn't take too long.

I clicked ever17PC_us.exe to play, and as I said at my 1st post, I already turned off my anti-virus.

 

And I re-checked my torrent so many times, but it didn't work even though the game folder has all the files with the correct sizes, so I think there's nothing to do more with it

 

About the read-only files, when I selected the folder and tried to remove the read only attribute in the property dialog, it looked like it worked, but when I closed the dialog and selected the folder again, the read only attribute was still there. I searched on Google and it said that it's normal with Win xp

 

So I have no idea what to do T.T

I tried your first solution, but still, I coudn't open this game. So I guess I have to download the image files like you said. Hope that everything will be okay
