I never was good at witty first introductions, so I'll try to impress.

Spencer here. 23. Been a closet VN lover since 2012 thanks to a friend introducing me to Katawa Shoujo (guess I can thank his DeviantART account for that one). Born and raised in the US, but I will be leaving for Japan in the summer to be an English ALT. I love languages, food, and games, yet sadly I know little to no Japanese. I am fluent in French and Italian though. I have also studied Latin, Greek, German, and Swedish.

In terms of VNs, I like playing them often so I have a pretty good collection from when I went to Japan for a month previously. Some of my favorites include (in no ranked order):

1. Little Busters

2. Hoshizora no Memoria

3. G-Senjou no Maou

I also like anime thanks to me and two of my friends forming a group we hold every weekend. It's pretty cool, and hell, we even get ice cream.

And that's about it. Nothing too interesting. I decided to join this site so that I can find a place to actually discuss VNs with others, so I hope you'll welcome me and look forward to checking out the community. Thanks for having me!

Welcome to fuwan fuwan, i hear you watch anime with your friends, eeh~ i'll avoid out-of-place jokes but how do you do when you watch something that pulls the emotion out of your trembling soaked bodies? (i'm pretty sure that's a perfectly SFW question)

I've ruined several people's lives made a few 'classmates' watch Clannad and they became romance-addicted crybabies, i wonder what would have happened if i had watched it together with them, though i did watch kill la kill with one of them (it was the second episode and damn that was awkward).

Anyway i'll quote something and end this post:

"Even when i only showed them my outer shell, no one noticed any difference."

You seem eatable so i hope to see you around ^^

I have wanted to watch this, but I know that I should probably play the visual novel first to do it justice, so I am avoiding it for now. Someday though, someday.

Some people say the anime is better, i haven't gotten to After Story (the hard part) in the VN but leaving the voice acting aside the VN's been better so far

Yukiru:

I played Little Busters in its entirety before I ended up watching both seasons as an anime, and I was pretty happy with knowing I played the VN. It was nice to be able to say, "Oh hey, I remember this scene. It pretty much was spot on/way off." Knowing what you say about After Story, Key always does a pretty good job on making those endings pretty emotional.

Flutterz:

Thanks!

Merçi!

Grazie molto!

Schönen dank!

Tack!

Malheureusement, je suis américain, et je n'étudie jamais la littérature française sauf dans l'université. Je le sais...probablement je la devrais étudier, mais...eh. Bref, j'espère que nous devenons amis!

Welcome to the community!  I loved Katawa Shoujo.  How did you like it?  Did you have a favorite route?

I liked KS a lot. Through my first play, I actually didn't land a single girl's route and ended up failing Act I, which makes me wonder why I had the confidence to play VNs anymore after that. But I did land Rin first, and while I love her route to this day, I can't really say she was my favorite. Honestly what I enjoyed about KS the most was the fact that it focused on a multitude of characters (in this case the girls) who you already know face problems, yet also focused on the protagonist equally so in a way that didn't derail the who idea behind the game. It was a good balance in my opnion of showcasing everyone's struggle.

If I could say one thing I didn't like about the game, it's the fact that there really isn't any sort of connectivity to the whole story. To me the game is sort of meant to be played like a video game: you pick a route, beat the game, and call it a day. Sure you could go back and experience all the routes but they don't really relate to one another on a grand scale. Actually it was very disheartening playing the other routes after your first because the amount of foreshadowing they did regarding the other routes felt painful. I know what Rin is going through, why do you need to hint at that fact in Emi's route when I can't do anything about it? :(

Overall though, rant aside, it's a good game and will always have a spot in my heart.

A little late welcome from me.

Interesting that you know so many languages, I myself know Swedish (native), English, Japanese (I read VNs untranslated), Spanish and Latin in varying levels. And I'll also spend some time in Japan, I'll get a semester in my education over there.

Enjoy your stay here!

Trevligt att träffas! Var kommer du ifrån?

How many years of Latin have you studied? I had taken 3 semesters worth where we got to reading Ceasar's Bello Gallico and Cicero's catilinarian orations. I never really dove into the prose with Virgil or the like, but I did enjoy the other semesters.

Oh wow I feel bad now I actually didn't see this post until now. [cryo necro wins]

Welcome to the forums, and did you lose anything when that computer died?

I got my hardrive out, and can probably get the stuff off of it later. Honestly I believe it is a hardrive issue due to the fact that I had an issue with this earlier last year where I had to do a disk check to move files around. Probably just some dead cells or whatever where the display drivers are being read, considering the fact that when I tried 3 different video cards they all failed.
