ServeTheServant Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Hey guys... I've never really watched much anime, but was looking to start, and realized I don't really know what to go with. I could just sort by ratings on MAL or lurk through some of the topics where people say their favorite anime (and I have to some degree), but I was curious what people would recommend with the understanding that I haven't seen much. I've sort of just been looking at this forum at random and picking things I think sound interesting, but wanted to ask for some suggestions. So, any ideas? I prefer a degree of supernatural, don't mind dark plot elements but then again am fine with slice of life or romance as long as there's an engaging overarching plot. So far, I've only watched: Angel Beats Spice and Wolf Date a Live FMA (original, not brotherhood) a couple seasons of Naruto Thanks in advance for any ideas! Quote
Life Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Try bakemonogatari. In my opinion everyone has to have seen shafts style at least once or given your dp, Fate/Zero is always an option Quote
Guest Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Bakemonogatari is a piece of art but I wouldn't recommend it as a starter anime. It's going to sound stupid but I think something like Sword Art Online is good to begin with. Steins;gate (read the VN) Mondaiji tachi Kokoro Connect I think these are all good to begin with For Slice of life : K-on! Love live! (meh) Chuunibyou (season 1) Sakurasou no pet wa kanojo Quote
Yukiru Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 You have to try Code Geass, it's going to be hard if you dislike foolish amounts of fan service, but it will worth it (probably). Kill la Kill is full of win, might be a little (way too much) stupid, but it managed to enter my favorite 10. Higurashi is pretty cool too, kinda milked but cool, I may like it more than the VN (would need to re-watch to make sure). And if you're looking for slice of life my favorite on that genre would be Non Non Biyori, might be because the town here I lived most of my life was kinda rural but that's still a great show. Quote
Down Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Well, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Code Geass Shingeki no Kyojin Evangelion Fate/Zero Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Kara no Kyoukai Samurai Champloo Cowboy Bebop Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 All of those are blockbuster, popular anime that are both good as entrylevel anime and by themselves. Nosebleed Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I'd say only start Bakemonogatari after you've seen quite some anime but not as starter one though i consider it a masterpiece. Gintama Clannad Seto no Hanayome Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan Mahou Soujo Madoka Magica Azumanga Daioh All these are good in their respective genre in my opinion and are a great start in the anime world. The Major Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I'm just going to throw out some of my favorites here. For something more serious/dark try Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Welcome to the N.H.K. Attack on Titan Black Lagoon Puella Magi Madoka Magica Fate/Zero For something more casual/slice of life try Azumanga Daioh K-On! Kimi ni Todoke (romance) Working!! Waiting in the Summer (romance) A Certain Scientific Railgun Bunny Drop Hope that helps Quote
