AMMSY Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 If I'm half way through the anime, and got really interested.. is there any reason to read the VN? to be more specific, he ends up with Nagisa no matter what in the VN as well? Pacmanisover9000 1 Quote
Freestyle80 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 what? its a VN so obviously there are different routes,like 10 different endings in the VN. reason to ready,dunno maybe if u liked some of the heroines like Ryou/Kyou u could read their routes Quote

Monmon Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 You cant hear Yuichi Nakamura's voice in the vn. Jokes aside,the vn have more routes and details about the story. You should read and watch both of em,i promise it wont waste your time. Each media give you different enjoyment,At least for me. However i prefer Nagisa's appearance in the anime, she is more cute there. Quote
monkeysrumble Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Reading through the VN right now. Honestly if there is an anime based on the VN the VN is usually better. More endings, more scenes that weren't in the anime and you get to hear Tomoya's thoughts and inner monologues which really help intensify the story experience. Every story arc in the anime also plays out differently because in the anime they are all in the same story but in the VN they are all separate. Quote
Freestyle80 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 There are quite some VNs without routes, actually. But yeah, Clannad has a lot of them. Quote
Zodai Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 well arent they called Kinetic novels? xD i always thought VN means multiple rotes/endings Quote
Vokoca Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I would really recommend reading the VN - and watching the anime after that, since the adaptation is great. That said, some of the plot points near the end make much more sense in the VN environment - and they're much better explained in the VN as well. That, and Clannad is probably the VN with most content I've ever read; it'd be a huge shame to miss out on somehting with such freedom when it comes to choices... the amount of routes in this VN is ridiculous, in a good way. AMMSY Posted April 20, 2014 Author Posted April 20, 2014 Wait, so the anime is just one route? 0.0 Quote
Monmon Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Wait, so the anime is just one route? 0.0 yes true route.However there an ova and a episode in after story about Tomoyo and kyou. Quote
Funnerific Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I would say stick with the anime. It has cuter characters (the art style in the VN is a little outdated), better comedy (you know, Kyoto Animation and stuff) and a proper arc for Yukine (just a stump in the VN). You're only missing out on short stories for the mom&dad Furukawas. Sieg 1 Quote
monkeysrumble Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Wait, so the anime is just one route? 0.0 The anime isn't one route. It tells the story of each route but takes out the romance and as a consequence it takes out a bunch of scenes because of it. EDIT: It tells it all in the same story though so unlike the VN the characters will remember what happened in each route. Quote

But IMO Clannad really is one of the exceptions to this rule, the animation is better than the VN as you'll hardly miss anything important and, let's be honest here, the art of the VN is not very good. Guest Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Read/watch both and make your own judgement. Some people say the anime was better, I strongly disagree. But in the end it'd be a pointless argument. How should you chose then ? play the original, that way you won't miss anything. Quote
castor212 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I did both, and I have to say the anime adaptation is better. I was actually bored playing the VNs. And, unlike most adaptations, KyoAni spun and wrap all routes into one timeline without forcing it. Quote
Zhiroo Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 The Anime is GREAT but there's no chance that it's better than the VN. Just enjoy both. Quote
AMMSY Posted April 20, 2014 Author Posted April 20, 2014 Will the After Story in the VN will always be about Nagisa and Tomoya relationship? I mean, if I go in Kyou's or Tomoyo's route, will the After Story will be about Tomoya with them? Quote
Funnerific Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Yes it's only Nagisa. You do have Tomoyo After, though, which is a separate game. Quote
Freestyle80 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Tomoyo has a different game dedicated to her---> https://fuwanovel.net/novels/tomoyo-after Quote
Nagisa_Fawkes Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I strongly prefer the VN, I wouldn't have had my first love if I watched the anime, because playing the VN I really felt like I was the MC, nowadays I don't get that feeling anymore tough, I wonder why... Quote

Izayoi Sakuya Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Well, i personaly think that a Visual Novel is the best way to express any kind of story. Better than books, movies, series, animes, mangas, games, songs, or any other kind that i forgot. You combine the best of those (writting detail of the books, images and sounds of anime and the interaction of games) and you have a visual novel. The anime is pretty good though. . . . . . . . I cried on After Story . . . . . . . . . . . . Air still the saddest. . . . . Quote
Vokoca Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 As much as I loved the anime adaptation (still my favourite adaptation right next to Steins;Gate), I would have to disagree that it is better in terms of the story. For the people who've seen the anime, can you honestly say you've understood the last two episodes completely? I still feel like it's not explained well enough in the anime, and that it makes more sense in the VN medium. But as I said before, don't pick just one. Read first and watch later for the maximum amount of feels. Quote
