With Nekopara, it's an issue of Neko Works wanting to get all of the money from 18+ digital sales. Buying it from their site will still get you a version with an english translation.

This won't be an issue with Grisaia and I see no reason why they won't offer a digital edition of the 18+ version.

Yeah...that's mostly why everyone was so pissed about it.  I've seen 18+ stuff get funded there; granted, it doesn't happen every day, but it seems like it mostly goes under the radar.  Several other VN projects had nude dakimakura addons as well, and even showed them directly on Kickstarter, yet they too slipped under the radar.

In all seriousness, there has been a heightened sensitivity over this in the last couple of months because of two major reasons. Firstly, people falsely associate VN's with Video Games and secondly, there has been a renewed moral panic against video games on the internet spearheaded by a few notable individuals like Anita Sarkeesian. The gist of it is that the medium is evil and misogynistic and they are rallying against any sort of depiction of women that could be construed as "sexist" - which seems to include pretty much anything of a sexual nature (I live in Australia and they had an internet petition that got GTA V pulled from the shelves of 2 major retailers here)

It's like everyone is on hyper vigilance alert because they are afraid of either having a petition launched at them, or being flamed on social media or having the press run stories about their services and damage their reputation. It's a weird form of internet slacktivism  by the type of people who spend all day on Tumblr bitching about who has the least privilege and talking about how something on Twitter "triggered" them and gave then PTSD.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty old - almost 40, so I clearly remember when guys like Jack Thompson were going around complaining that rap music and video games caused violence. Now it seems we have people from the other side of the aisle going around saying that video games cause rape culture and sexism. Unfortunately people classify VN's as "video games" in their ignorance, so they are probably an easy target because of their usually adult nature.

That's a pandoras box i've been carefully eyeing, hoping that the lid doesnt pop off. TIme will tell; esp. with the steady growth of VNs on Steam.

Some people say VNs are niche enough it won't get noticed...I'm not so sure... It's hard to "not" notice it when big breasts are in your face right on Steams store front page as a new "popular" title (Sakura series, etc).

As for Kickstarter and what they allow/don't allow, I dont think the above applies though, I suspect they just have 100 monkeys with keyboards working in a shed, and depending on the random keymashing - they approve/deny certain things in a project. I can list afew projects still ongoing that have racy posters and dakimakuras etc posted without hinderance..

This.

Not to mention the fact that they're mostly cute girls, and your goal is to go flirt with them.

Not that I have a problem with it.

I think the thing here is that people should just learn to deal with it. Just like how there are different genres of games that different types of people enjoy, visual novels are things that other people enjoy as well. It makes no sense to protest about something you don't like when you're still getting what you actually like. It's like you're attacking it for no reason.

It's just silly to go and make a movement to hurt a certain merchandise when it's not doing anything to you. I don't think zombies would protest to a game where you keep on killing them. Maybe because their brains are already rotten...

I'd also prefer it if they did not loosely associate video games, or games in general, to different crimes happening in our society mainly because they feature some kind of 'violent' gameplay or whatnot. It's not a general thing. People are different.

I'm disappointed that there wasn't an announcement before the end of the kickstarter. Denpa had a tweet stating that there would be something before the end of the kickstarter. Makes me lose faith in them

It is a shame that countries want to take freedom of expression and enterprise away from businesses just because the media offends some group. There is a rating system for a reason.

-Snip I'm really just trying to get your attention here-

Hey! This talk is reminding me of the 7th of Clephas' thread on the Rules of Forums! ...This is only marginally related to Grisaia anyway. Rather than getting into an argument because we appear to be on different sides of this issue, can you please possibly make a separate topic that I can safely ignore? Thanks.

On a Grisaia-related note, I'm super excited it got funded~ Looking forward to receiving the games... when they finish translating/editing them... which will probably take a while...

Yes, it will take a while.

I'm just glad that they finally got their PSN publisher status. Now I just wonder if there will be any chance of us receiving physical copies of the Vita versions of the VNs.

It would be really interesting to see if they could push for a surprise ps3/ps4 port if they put it out on the psn store. (than again, persona 4 golden is on the psn but "only" for vita, so just because it's on a central network doesn't mean it will be all-platforms, sadly)

Which raises a question, I wonder why they restrict games to certain platforms when it can cross with minimal effort? *shrugs* Wakarimasen lol ┓(゚ペ ;)┏ -Insem, Summer '14

Restriction yields requirement to buy a certain console/platform to play certain game.

Meaning, more moneyyyy!

Other than that, I'm eagerly awaiting whatever release Sekai's gonna make.

(ok so I'm kinda new here so I apologize if this has been discussed to death)

but on the subject of the 18+ ver. of the Grisaia trilogy, if by chance sekai/denpasoft are unable to bring it over due to the porn laws mumbo jumbo, is there a possibility for a restoration patch to be created for the all-ages physical release?

No laws will stop it from being sold. If anything stops it, it'll be some licence b.s. (though depending on which country you live in, you might need to tread carefully, due to Makina's Hscenes).

As for a potential restoration patch in the event +18 doesn't become available for sale? Hard to say, but I sort of have my doubts. Kajitsu is already floating around out there with the original translation, but for the other two titles to be restored would take some real dedication I imagine.

But I could be wrong, plenty of resto patches out there already (IMHHW is a good example). But as I understand it, the +18/non +18 Grisaia trilogy has fundamental differences that go beyond just ripping out hscenes. Kind of like FSN versus FSN Realta Nua.

That's not really accurate. I suppose a handful of the dirty jokes have been toned down, but overall the script is still mostly the same and full of crass humor. And where there are differences, Sekai Project will attempt to retain the original version of the script.

Here is, as far as I know, the only story difference between the 18+ version and all-ages version of Kajitsu:

In Angelic Howl, they removed the cannibalism for the all-ages version.

That's not so bad (still sucks, but could be worse), though I am more curious about the state of the other two vns. If I listen to what vndb comments have to say, there is a fair amount of controversy to re-write in the 2nd and 3rd installments.

Which is too bad if true, I like some forms of controversy :3

Weekly Update #2:

Short update this week, but we've gotten started on editing "Fruit of Grisaia" scripts for the steam release.

19 scripts composing 426kb were reviewed this week, containing 31.6% of the game's common route.

This editing process will be the focus of our localization work for a while. The speed it will progress may vary, depending on the amount of "new" content that needs to be translated in each route.

BackerKit invites will be going out next week, we're waiting on some responses before we send out invites. We also were able to add digital/physical OST, the 3 poster set, and one of the Grisaia tapestries as new add ons that were not offered on the campaign.

Super late on this, but I'd just like to clarify that that's not entirely correct. I don't remember how obvious it was in the original release, but it was still very much in the Vita version too, even if it was more abstract (still very obvious, though.)

Here's proof, in Japanese though:

It's the scene where Kazuki shows Amane what was going on. It hints at cannibalism there, and if I remember correctly, that's how it was in the original too, right?
