arnez260282 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 First Sry for my english i am from agentina >>:. hi, i try those game before in 2013 BUT i encounter a few problem In rewrite i get bored after 7 hours Muv-luv series i get bored in the 1º hour of muv luv The problem is that i HATE useless MC and harem/every day school comedy But someone say that rewrite is god after you pass commun route and muv luv Alternative is olso god My question is are this VN REALY worth for someone that like more Characters and plot rated that harem/school comedy For reference this Light novel/VN a read this year VN Symphonic Rain G-Senjou no Maou - The Devil on G-String Grisaia no Kajitsu Light novels Gekkou Iris on Rainy Days Kino no Tabi Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria Sry for my english Quote
Life Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I loved rewrite but if you're still reading the common route, maybe try to finish chihayas route or lucias. If you still find it boring then you won't like much of it. I would normally say to start with kotoris route but its the most boringish one so the other two might help pique your interest a bit more However with Muv Luv...Honestly I found extra and unlimited boring as well. It is at Alternative when everything starts to fall into place and get really good. I hope this helps. EDIT: After the common route (rewrite) and extra (muv luv) stuff moves away from school harems. My biased opinon? They are both worth it. Quote
Zakamutt Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Idk, the common route of rewrite can be done in a surprisingly short (using the term loosely) time, as we found out on batman's 24hour livestream. Things definitely move sharply away from the whole school comedy stuff, and the one episode breaking the whole thing off is... pretty damn cool. Rewrite protagonist isn't useless either Quote
Life Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Rewrite protagonist isn't useless either Shhh. That is for later. Quote
havoc Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 muv luv is quite good it is just that the extra part wich you have to start with is only decent at best. After you finish one route in muv luv you can play the unlimited story wich is much better. If you dont want to play extra because you think it is boring then get yourself a save file from someone and use that to skip to unlimited. Quote
Tenkuru Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I don't know about Muv-Luv, I got bored of it too. But Rewrite is really worth it. The long common route might turn you off if you don't like KEY's sense of humor, but once you get past that, you'll be in for a treat. It's true routes, Moon and Terra, are amazing too. Definitely recommend you to continue to read it. Oh, on a side note, you have great taste in light novels! Hakomari, Gekkou and Iris are all such great LNs. Haven't read Kino myself, though I plan to in the near future. Quote

If you dont want to play extra because you think it is boring then get yourself a save file from someone and use that to skip to unlimited. Actually you have to finish two specific routes(the main two heroines) in Extra to unlock Unlimited. Also, I've probably said it in every Muv-Luv related thread where this has come up, but I highly recommend against skipping Extra. Aside from getting to know the characters, there is a lot of foreshadowing in Extra that becomes important in Alternative. Aside from the Lacrosse arc, most of Extra becomes quite interesting retroactively. If Extra is that hard to take(it was for me the first time I played), I recommend reading one or two scenes at a time and doing something else in between rather than skipping it altogether. As to the OP's question, yeah, Muv-Luv is absolutely worth it. Although Extra can be annoying at times, in the end, the series rests comfortably in my top three VNs. To date, it's the only one I've completed more than once. Quote

And personally i am almost always doing two thing at one time, usually reading a book/anime and a vn. The reason being i need some variatie in story or i will get bored. You could also play two vn's at once alternating between them so the story stays fresh and that boring arc's dont become a chore. Quote
Tatsujin Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Muv Luv extra is boring. Muv Luv unlimited has a good setting but nothing gets answered. Muv Luv alternative... Be ready for one hell of a long ride. Best story I've read. Look at Vndbs ratings. They speak the truth. Quote

havoc Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Thats the problem, i have to play the boring part first AKA Extra/unlimited to play alternative but thats is the real question, is alternative worth all of that? Unlimited is already much better than extra so that is a good thing. As for wenether it is worth it, that is up to you to decide. But in my opinion it is definitly worth it as i am currently on my third playthrough of muv luv alternative. Quote

crunchytaco Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I tell this to every person diving into Muv-Luv Extra is shit. Don't listen to any of the naysayers saying, "Actually, I quite enjoyed extra myself. I don't get why it gets all the hate." You keep reminding yourself that it's shit. There's even a reminder note by the translators that it's "The worst game they've ever translated." That the reason you play it is for Alternative and all the effort you put into it will be worth it. That's right, don't have any expectations. You'll have a much better time that way. Quote
Albedo Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Yes, it's worth playing through Extra and Unlimited just for Alternative. And I'm gonna be a contrarian, skip Extra. There's only one event that's actually relevant for Alternative's plot, and it'll be explained then. The rest is a nice bit of foreshadowing, but nothing you can't really live without. More importantly, character development doesn't carry over in the case of Takeru (he starts Unlimited as a generic rom com lead, just as he starts Extra) and in the case of the other characters you'll get to know their personalities again during Unlimited, so that's a win. tl;dr, skip Extra, it's shit, and don't look back. Unlimited's more light-hearted than alternative, and good. Not great, just good. Also, short. Quote
Snowtsuku Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 It depends on how you'll find Rewrite's common route IMO. I honestly can't get into it and its comedy that I can't even bring myself to open the VN again. I finished the VN for the sake of finishing it though but I did not go back to finish all the quest. I haven't played alternative. But extra is bad and unlimited is ok-ish. They said the real story is in alternative. I don't know if you can skip extra and unlimited as it gives an introduction of some sort. I guess it depends if you can handle the earlier parts of the VNs and if you think the later parts are worth it. Quote
arnez260282 Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 k my money is on muv luv series AKA only alternative, so i can do this Read the manga muv luv and muv luv unlimited ; Time spent= 2 cups of coffee Read This ; Time spent= 3 cups of coffee whit that i can complete ignore/pass/not touche/not open/Run muv luv extra and play unlimited in fast phase AKA just read the important plot and Ctrl the rest Time spend of all 7 to 9 cups of coffee is this a viable way to later really enjoy alternative ? Tatsujin Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Thats the problem, i have to play the boring part first AKA Extra/unlimited to play alternative but thats is the real question, is alternative worth all of that?EXTRA is short anyways. It's like 15-20 hours at best to get Sumika and Meiya's arcs. Unlimited is also short about 10 hours long at best and the recommended route is Meiya (priority over the rest) and Yuuko (secondary, optional) and everyone else is not worth the time. So now that's all and done. Here is Muv-Luv Alternative's ratings. And this is where it stands. #1 VN at a staggering 9.29 rating and it beats all of Key's VNs, Steins;Gate, Fate Series, and whatever else I didn't mention. There's a reason why it's standing at #1 while Fate and Clannad/ReWrite/Little Busters! and White Album 2, etc are not in that category. They're all great VNs, but Alternative bests them.Do Not skip EXTRA. It is a generic VN, boring at most but read through it because a lot of what happens there will actually come back and bite hard later on in Unlimited/Alternative. It's necessary to understand the character's relationships, where they came from, etc. EXTRA and Unlimited are a full sequel to Alternative. There's no-way around it unless you want to be thrown in the middle of the story and be confused with their stories, backgrounds, questions being tossed around, etc. Plus, we play VN to be emotionally attached to them, right? That's just another reason to throw out there. Here's the guide. Right side is the routes and left side is the info. I try Extra before but I ended up hating after 1 hour, and if I have to spend 15/20 hours of that I'll end on drugs (>><<) i am still playing comyu, currently in kagome route. Decent game, not bad but not that good. Quote
Tatsujin Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Ohhh, yeah do what you need to do. I honestly don't like EXTRA that much either. But kill your time on EXTRA and then things will be like a red carpet from then on.I hope you enjoy the Muv-Luv as much as we did. Quote
Rockmandash12 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Yes. Yes. Yes.... YESSSSS! Both of them take quite a bit of time to get good, but when they get good, they are amazing. Quote
