raphael512 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 so yeah guys , i'm just wondering , what knowledge do you need to have to hack a visual novel .. Quote
Beato Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Depends on the engine and the tools available for it. Quote
raphael512 Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 Depends on the engine and the tools available for it. I mean what knowledge you need to have , for example reverse engineering or programming . Quote
Beato Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Like I said it really depends on the visual novel engine. Though knowing at least some programming is probably necessary in most cases. At least if you're not just trying to extract things from the visual novel. Quote
Beato Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Is there a specific Visual Novel you want to hack? Quote
Narcosis Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 You need to know a variety of different programming languages, be able to reverse engineer a program, have wide knowledge about game design and visual novel developers - their tools of trade and any engines, that are available on the market. It often involves breaking through different types of file encryption and various protection mechanisms, unpacking the game's archives or even tearing apart whole engines in order to make a bunch of changes within the code. RusAnon Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 You don't really need to have any kind of special programming skills — very basic knowledge of C is sufficient. What you need is knowledge of assembler, debugging and reverse-engineering software like IDA Pro, and sufficient knowledge about data storage/compression/encryption. Also, you will need some knowledge on interpreters and bytecode, since plenty of engines use their own bytecode for scripts instead raw sources. Quote
raphael512 Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 Hmm,, what if somebody already uploaded their tool for hacking the system of the game a group is translating , then they won't need a hacker anymore because the translator can probably do it , am i wrong ? Quote
