I'm posting this hoping someone has a fix. For whatever reason, the music in Higurashi gets filled with static whenever it gets even just a little loud. This happens with both my speakers and my headphones. Adjusting the volume levels in game does nothing. Music for other games are just fine, playing music with any of my music players works fine with no static or distortion. It's like the music has a really bad encode or something, but I looked online and no one else complained about this.

I am using this release, for reference, which comes with the music restoration patch. Just to be sure I reapplied the patch found here and the problem persists.

Any help would be appreciated it.

I feel somewhat dumb for asking, but are you sure it's not the cicadas sound effect kicking in ?

I was thinking about the same thing.

Are you sure it's not that? I have the same version, and I have no problems whatsoever with it.

If you want though, you can manually put the patches again. Just to be sure.

Try getting the patches there.

No, it's not the cicadas, and I have already reapplied the patch. I've tried updating my audio drivers as well. It basically sounds blown out, the static isn't bad in the quiet tracks but the louder it gets the more distortion is introduced. You have to listen for it on most tracks but a couple sound really bad even when you aren't paying attention. It's not my speakers, though. I *think* it might just be in the original tracks and I'm just one of the only people who is complaining about it. If it is on my side, I'm not sure there's a feasible solution.

edit: This is now a moot point because I finished the first four episodes and have moved on to Kai, where the BGM doesn't exhibit this behavior.

It might be a problem with the patch's soundtracks. I, however, have never experienced this static-y thing you've told us. In the end, it might be a personal preference.

Congratulations on getting to Kai, btw.
