Introducing A Delay to Licensed VN Torrents [Completed]

I'd say we just ban linking to licensed VN's all together, but that'd make me a hypocrite: I've downloaded quite a few localized VN's. Not proud of it.

What about this: At first, we put a long temporary ban on posting links of localized VN's: Something like 6 months after the date of release.

That way, those that want to pirate will pirate anyway, but it would not hurt the sales as much.

(Overall, it'd probably be better to ban them outright in the long run; however, I cannot really support that since I've benefited from those links before.)

Nah you had it right the first time, there's no point introducing a policy to get rid of official links from the site if you still allow such links on the forums. Tay's moving a little slowly though (most likely due to RL issues.)

Also it wouldn't make you a hypocrite.

Agree with policy changes. If Fuwanovel isn't going to host torrents for licensed VNs then it shouldn't have links for them in the Download Requests forum either for the sake of consistency.

I would never have bought ef if I hadn't played (and loved) the pirated version beforehand. I think it's okay to be inconsistent with the main site.

Requesting Stevepost :rolleyes:

Yeah but fuwanovel doesn't need to be the one linking them, it's causing lots of problems.

It's not about piracy this time. Piracy was already discussed and tears were shed. ;-;

Don't start the endless fight once again ! ;_;

I don't know what kind of problems are you talking about aside from companies allegedly getting less revenue.

Of course this is a thread about piracy, what else could it be?

It's about whether Fuwa should endorse the hosting of pirated links on its forums. It's not about whether piracy is good or bad for VNs, it's about whether the the hosting of such links aids Fuwa in achieving its goal (newly clarified by Tay) and/or causes more problems than it's worth.

EDIT:

Legal problems for one. Prevents any relationships being formed with localisation studios is another. Prevents any meaningful relationships with a significant part of the OELVN community is still another.

I agree that it's not in our interests to allow licensed links in the D&R board. The board moderators will be notified shortly about this clarified policy. Thanks to everyone for addressing this quickly.

Just a heads up

I'll be scanning through Downloads & Requests with my team and hiding posts, if you find any me and my team missed, feel free to contact me or my BMs.

Download & Request rules have now been officially changed.

Spring cleaning of licensed vn links will continue for a while, help in spotting these is appreciated too.

The thread itself is more about helping support the localization of Visual novels as the only way localization will work is if people actually buy the localized versions of things otherwise we go back to square one.
