Cloudedmind Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 So, for the last week or so VNR gets hung up whenever I try to start it. I've tried deleting and re-adding it, and updating it as well and it's still getting hung up. I've used the visual novel reader debugger script and it seems to get hung up right after "create speech recognition manager". I'm not sure what to do about that. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Down Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Did you launch it with administrator rights? Text hookers tend to need admin rights to work properly. I've also heard VNR eats up lots of resources, you should check the processor and memory usage when you launch it, and maybe close other programs that use lots of resources. Quote
Clephas Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I was going to suggest the same thing... but also, VNR eats resources like crazy, so if you have a low-spec PC or laptop, you should remember to shut down all excess programs while playing. I suggest copying your walkthrough to a notepad document and shutting down your internet browser, any download functions, Steam, etc. while you use it just in case. I had to do that with Baldr Sky Zero, because VNR slowed things down so much that even my gaming PC had trouble keeping things going at a decent rate.  Edit: By low-spec, I mean having an integrated video or graphics card (causes overheating in the motherboard, thus lowering the overall specs of your computer), poor cooling system, a RAM of less than 3GB, etc. To be blunt, VNR is probably the clunkiest program of its type in existence. CPU usage usually hangs around at 50%. Quote
Clephas Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Hmmm... if it is that bad, you might consider asking someone to upload their updated version of it so you can download it in case the link you used has a damaged file in it. Otherwise... just where do you have it set up? Is it on your desktop, or did you place it somewhere else?  Edit: Oh, a friend of mine says it is really glitchy running on any OS other than Windows Vista or after... He can get it to work on Linux, but when he tested it on Mac, it crashed regularly. Quote

It was working fine on my computer at work where the OS is Windows 7. I'm wondering if I just need to use an older version then and not update it. Quote
Cloudedmind Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 I guess I can marked this as solved. It seems that whatever new updates were done to VNR in the last week or two don't seem compatible with my machine. I don't know if it's a Windows XP thing or just a my machine thing, but it works just fine when I use an older version from about November 1, so I'll leave it at that and just have to use it without updating it.
