Nosebleed Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Selector Infected episode 1, 2 & 3 The art style fits the atmosphere perfectly and the animation is also decent. The psychological stuff blends into the anime and doesn't feel forced. All the characters are pretty interesting. It's good to see that all the characters have proper personalities, though it does feel that Akira everyone goes into hyper-mode during the battles. I think there was plenty of hints that Tama is a battle-crazed cute girl. She has already said that she wants to win, we have yet to see how far she is willing to go to win. I'm not too interested in card games/battles so I didn't pay much attention to those parts as even the 'proper' card games hardly ever make sense to me. Lastly I have a hunch that the apartment building that was shown in the first episode will become pretty important later on. Quote
FinalChaos Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Surprisingly enough, the apartment building is pretty irrelevant.. It is used metaphorically I guess, but other than that it's rather irrelevant for it to be there. Quote
Nosebleed Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 With all the talk about comparing it to a pillar and those dreams that Ruuko was having, I was pretty sure that it had to mean something. It even takes shots of the building between scenes, guess they were simply using the building instead of the usual sky shot. Well it is pretty rare for my hunch to be wrong though. Quote
Down Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Or I just missed something. That's possible too. Quote
EldritchCherub Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 My review for Death Parade Ep.3 Not much to really nitpick this time around... The first problem I had was the character motivation for Shigeru and Chisato when they first arrive at the bar. It doesn't feel plausible that they would have staked their lives solely on the premise that they didn't know who they were. At least for me Life>>>>>>>>>>>>>Identity Dequim didn't have to pull out his mannequin ploy in order to get them to play. I wonder what he would have done if they refused to play this time around. I can't imagine his ploy will work the same on everyone. Mai's role in the story felt more like a red herring to me. I understand how far she went in order to be with Shigeru, but I was left saying 'So what?' It would have provided the same emotional impact if Chisato had died, so that whole little twist they tried to pull at the end didn't really do it for me. In conclusion, this episode felt like a filler for me. It didn't do much to push the mechanics of the game or develop the characters that reside in this strange limbo between life and death. The stakes weren't high enough for me to care. Even the death game involving the hearts inside the bowling balls could have been used to greater effect. Previous episode with the darts was filled with tension. 'No Pain, No Gain' is what I always say. Hopefully the next episode brings back the sadistic flare that previous episodes had and tries to less expositional dialogue. Quote
Ezeefreak Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Finished it yesterday, but I have to sort my thoughts on Selector Infected/Spread before reviewing it. The show made me to watch the entire second season in about 24 hours. So it isn't bad. Also I think i was a good start for me in that kind of anime. But honestly... "psychological" thats the most stupid genre name I've ever heard of ... So, read you later then... Quote
FinalChaos Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Watched till episode 4,5,6,7 and 8 of selector Infected. It's gotten a lot more interesting. Though it feels like the anime should end by ep 12 according to how things are going now, wonder how that will change. The revelation that an Eternal Girl becomes a LRIG is pretty damn good. I am literally dying to see the reason behind it but I have to stop for today as I'm already late for my sleep time. Quote
EldritchCherub Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Here are my thoughts on selector infected WIXOSS Ep.1-4. I'll have the first season done sometime in the next two days. Is the vote for the extension also taking into account the second season? Ep.1 Not sure what to make of the foreshadowing about the pillar in the middle of the city and causing everything around it to disappear. Tama also seems like she’s inherently evil or something from the way she keeps screaming she wants to do battle. That dream Ruuko had seemed to show her avatar turning into some kind of monster *shudders* I’m going to go ahead and assume that these wishes don’t come without a substantial price attached to them. The “Eternal Girl” sounds like what Madoka turned into in order to save everyone else from their terrible fates. Also, it seems like other Selectors can sense others that share their power if they are close enough. I wonder why Ruuko couldn’t sense Yuzuki coming her way. Quote
Stray Cat Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 The second season is not required if you want to stop, but yes, the time would account for that. Quote
FinalChaos Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Voted Yes as I need the time-extension to complete the second season. Quote
Ezeefreak Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Here comes my review of Selector Infected/Spread WIXOSS (pronounced "we cross" and not weeksoss ) · Story: 7 / 10 7 out of 10 is a pretty high rating, so I liked the story so far. It wasn’t something great or new but it was always interesting. If you would ask me only fort he first Season maybe I would give 8, but including the second I only can give 7. The second season wasn't bad and also it made me to watch it very fast. But there was something about the plot, which i didn't like that much. I had the feeling the author just wanted too much and packed too much stuff in it. Also they were way too fast with explaining stuff, everytime they brought up a new „problem“ they explained that short after it. But maybe it was necessary because, like I said earlier, they just packed too much stuff in the second season. Quote
SilverLi Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I'm slacking off with this anime. I'm going to start today. Quote
colekitt Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I'm slacking off with this anime. I'm going to start today. Quote
SilverLi Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Yeah I'm also slacking but i can use exams as an excuse. (also rewatching Toradora and phoenix wright and not being the biggest fan of this anime but i have till the 30th to finish this one) Quote
LinovaA Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Bleh... I feel so behind now. See.. I suddenly got really busy, but I should be able to finish most of what is left today. ... I hope. Quote
Tyrael Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Last exam tomorrow, I'll be able to marathon anime after that looking forward to it! Quote
Stray Cat Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Since most people ended up watching two seasons I'll probably just tack on the weekend too. So be done by the 1st. Quote
FinalChaos Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Just finished Selector Infected, watched ep 9,10,11 and 12 today. It's been a really interesting ride and the end of the season is pretty well done. Cheers to everyone for selecting the anime. Will start Selector Spread tomorrow. Quote
FinalChaos Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Watched till ep 5 of Selector Spread. The depth of the story is increasing and the character development is also good. Though recently it seems to have become a bit too dramatic. Quote
LiquidShu Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I really hate that glasses chick so far, Hitoe I think her name was? Either way I just finished episode 3 and its pretty interesting. I hope Ruko starts to enjoy crushing peoples wishes. At least get the urge to fight like Tama which it seems she is getting. Quote
EldritchCherub Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Here are my thoughts on selector infected WIXOSS Ep.5-8. Ep.5 Hitoe's LRIG, Midoriko, foreshadows that something terrible will happen to Hitoe if she keeps him around. Hitoe is challenged by an unknown Selector. Why in the hell did she go willingly and agree to the battle? Arrgh, it's irritating when characters do silly things in order to move the plot forward. I'm curious to know what happens if someone loses three times... Hitoe loses three times and gets her wish reversed. She also loses all the memories she made while she was a Selector. That's quite the painful penalty. Yuzuki seems to take things the hardest after she finds out what really happened to Hitoe. She feels betrayed by Hanako. Honestly, I think it's only natural that the LRIG's have their own secrets. Not sure what Yuzuki was expecting. Akira vs. Ruuko battle begins... this should be good Ep.6 Ruuko admits that she doesn't have any wishes, so she isn't scared of anything. Damn, Ruuko is quite empty inside. Ruuko easily beats Akira. I would have liked to see this battle prolonged a bit more, but oh well... Best line in the show so far by Akira: "Making me grovel before you... You were enjoying this!" That's right, Ruuko, give in to the dark side. It's explained in this episode that no one knew what Ruuko was thinking as a child, so that's why they feared her. I wonder what happened to Ruuko that she grew up without wanting anything. Akira then challenges Iona to a battle, while she's still reeling from her mixed emotions from her earlier defeat. A new Selector is introduced. I bet she won't last long. Chiyori looks like she's dressed like Elsie from The World God Only Knows. Ep.7 Ruuko runs around looking for Yuzuki. Since she can't find her she decides to go check up on Akira, only to find Iona waiting for her. Iona's LRIG does most of the talking. She explains that Akira has lost three times. What a bummer... She also says that Iona was the one who beat Hitoe for the third time. I wonder why Midoriko didn't warn Hitoe about what would happen if she lost three times. Did he not know? I find that hard to believe. Iona says that she shares the same wish as Ruuko. Probably the same nihilistic wish that Ruuko has about the city disappearing. It's weird that Akira lost three times, but still retained all her memories from her journey as a Selector. Like WTF, why can't the rules be consistent in this show? Her wish was reversed, so she now has an ugly scar covering the right side of her face. Good riddance... Ep.8 Akira goes full on yandere on Ruuko and Yuzuki. Someone get that blade away from her! Oh look, deus-ex-police officer has arrived to the scene of the crime! Yuzuki decides to follow her own path and cut off all ties with Ruuko. Damn, Yuzuki really wants her brother badly. Yuzuki becomes oddly confident and seems certain that the next battle will be her last before she can become a Mahou Shoujo (Eternal Girl). Yuzuki accepts the Laws of the Selector... without knowing what they are. *facepalm moment* Most of the drama in this episode came off a bit forced to me. Character actions are questionable and they in turn don't question the world around them. Wishes turn out to be lies and Hanayo somehow switches roles with Yuzuki. Damn, talk about backstabbing! Quote
Stray Cat Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 I wonder what the next genre should be... I wonder............. Wonder................................................ -Note: See Poll. Quote
Ezeefreak Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I don't really care about the next genre... I'll look what you guys choose. But one question... What for a genre is demons?! Isn't it just something like horror with demons? MAL has a really crazy list of genres... I don't think it is necessary to make a subgenre for every show... Quote
Down Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 What for a genre is demons?! Isn't it just something like horror with demons? It's like vndb's 'Only Virgin Heroines' tag: it's absolutely necessary to have it.Don't raise it up that makes one less choice to choose fromBy 'game', do you mean stuff like SAO or stuff like Hikaru no Go?
