Nosebleed Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I'll sign up to save the day. My suggestion will be Kamichama Karin Quote
Down Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I'll be frank: I still haven't finished rewatching Shin Sekai Yori. Doing things is not my forte ;_; But I can't miss next cycle. I'll recommend Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala, probably one of the best mahou shoujo anime ever. Quote
LiquidShu Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Would Zero no Tsukaima count as mahou shoujo? I mean it has girls who are using magic If that counts then I recommend that, its been on my plan to watch for a while. Quote
Nosebleed Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Zero no Tsukaima is not mahou shoujo. Mahou Shoujo is that genre where the protagonist, usually a female, transforms into a magical girl to fight things or do magical stuff. And the transformation usually involves flashy colors and frilly dresses. Classical example would be Sailor Moon. Quote

Down Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Note that flashy colors and frilly dresses are optional but greatly appreciated. Fights are equally superfluous (they weren't part of the genre before Sailor Moon afaik) but when there are fights, huge colorful beams and a heavy dose of Hand to Hand would be of good taste. Examples of shows that do qualify as magical-girls: -Full Moon wo Sagashite (and my recommendation, Fancy Lala, also demonstrate those points: no fights, transformation isn't really flashy) -Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo (protag is 27 year old) Very borderline mahou shoujo anime (I don't know how broad we wanna be): -Vividred Operation -Twin Angel Quote

Down Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 1.) Full Moon wo god please kill me is too long. 2.) I wouldn't pay people to watch it. I was just giving examples so that people could see what mahou shoujo anime can be, I stand by my Fancy Lala recommendation. Also Okusama wa Mahou-shoujo isn't the soppy ecchi show it seems to be. I've heard good things about it. Quote

Flutterz Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I guess I'll recommend Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. Haven't watched it but MAL seems to think it's pretty good. Quote
Eclipsed Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Finished episode 21 This arc is definitely the best so far. But I'm sad that the ED changed. Well first of all I have a hunch that Shun is still alive or maybe it's just wishful thinking. At the time when Mamoru was attacked by the Tainted Cat in the hallway there was clearly a powerful cantus at work which stopped the Cat from attacking Mamoru. My guess is that it was Shun. Then there is the scene of Shun's 'death', that scene mostly looks like Shun sealed himself instead of actual death. Then there are all the visions that Saki keeps getting, they always have Shun who is helping her something(he even told to leave Maria in that nightmare Saki had). The most recent one is the giant-ink-fish-blowing-up incident where some cantus pulled her away from the explosion and Saki even gets a vision of Shun at that time. Shun could arrive at the end as a saviour or something. There is another interesting although unlikely ending that I thought of - Shun comes back but is hardly alive so Saki uses here telomere-regeneration proper to heal/revive Shun but dies in the process and then we get happily ever after Shun X Satoru end. -You likey Shun huh There are some things that confuse me though. In episode 18, the dancing guy with the fans is killed by the Rats and then when he dies some light shoots out from his eyes. This was never explained as to what it really was. I thought for a while but can't really see any reason behind it. -Nobody else dies in epic fashion like that fodder did so I guess that scene was just done like that for epicness. That or some symbolism thing where 'even gods are mortal' or something. How did the Rats get Maria and Mamoru's child ? I mean sure that the Rats killed those two somehow but how was the child born so fast. The Rats had given the bones a couple of days/weeks after Maria eloped. This would mean that Maria and Mamoru did stuff and the child was born within a week. Come on we all know the basics of biology that it requires 9 months for child to be born. And even if the child didn't grow fully it would require at least 7-8 months. So the whole Maria and Mamoru's child doesn't really add up. -The anime actually never specified *when* the bones were given, but in the novel it was after a few years. Quote
Nosebleed Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I guess I'll recommend Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. Haven't watched it but MAL seems to think it's pretty good. If I have to sit through Nanoha again I'm done. Quote
Flutterz Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 If I have to sit through Nanoha again I'm done. Is it that bad? Quote
colekitt Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Arg I was hoping is this a zombie was going to be the only recommendation and I wouldn't have to sit through a normal Mahou shoujo. Quote
Nosebleed Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 A lot of people seem to praise Nanoha. I watched 2 seasons of it and wasn't particularly interested in any way. (Started season 2 because i got told it was better) Though it's not to say it's bad, i don't think it's any trainwreck, i just didn't find it particularly appealing or captivating. Maybe because i didn't really like the cast all that much, i don't know, it was just an anime i never clicked with, but i don't have anything super downgrading to say about it other than i have no interest in revisiting it. EldritchCherub Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I'll join for the next round, but I don't have a recommendation cause I don't usually watch Mahou Shoujo. I'll put up a small review for Shinsekai Yori tomorrow, I've been so busy with school. Quote

Well the child is possible after a few years, but then the question is how did the Board of Education leave them be for some years. The Board was pretty damn afraid and seemed like they would literally send everything after those two to catch them as soon as possible. So after all that urgency shown by the Board just leaving them be for some years seems unlikely. And that epicness felt wasted on that dancing-fan guy. I'll now watch the last 4 episodes. I shall have my review up by tonight. As for all the recommendations made till now, I'm rooting for the zombie one. Quote
Abyssal Monkey Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Yolo, theres a first for everything, I'll go in for Cycle 5 if possible. It's been awhile since I've seen Kore Wa and Nanoha, with the other two current recommendations being completely new, but I remember enjoying Kore Wa more than Nanoha though. It's not a genre I'm well versed in, so I look forward to whatever happens to be picked. Quote
Kat Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Hello, I wish to participate in the Magical Girls Cycle. I'm recommending MAdoka Magica. It is a bit darker version of Magical Girls Anime. Quote

It's not a genre I'm well versed in, so I look forward to whatever happens to be picked. Kore wa is a parody of the genre, Nanoha is a legit Mahou Shoujo themed show. If you enjoyed the first more, it probably means you enjoy comedy more. Granted I also didn't enjoy Nanoha as much as I enjoyed something like Shugo Chara so it could be that Nanoha is just meh Hello, I wish to participate in the Magical Girls Cycle. And has anyone recommended Madoka Magica or is it rated M? No one's recommended it yet, also the rating doesn't matter as long as it's not hentai. But I think most people who like anime have already seen Madoka Magica at this point. Quote
Kat Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 No one's recommended it yet, but I think most people who like anime have already seen Madoka Magica at this point. Well sometimes people tend to drop it till they reach episode 3. Well i'll recommend it anyway. Can I also join the Seasonal Cycle, at this point? I'm already watching it and enjoying it. Quote

The second one is better overall but thematically less interesting. Overall it's an interesting series because it kinda spawned an entire sub-genre and had an influence on magical-girl anime (more than madoka so far, lol), but I wouldn't say it's a "great" series. I probably enjoyed it more than you did, though. (StrikerS doesn't exist sry) Quote
