Stray Cat Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 It's not just one of those anime, it's an Urobuchi anime. D4rk and edgy~ I look at this, I look at Saya no Uta, and my mind breaks. I'd love to see how edgy a Saya no Uta anime would be. Quote
Kat Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Mk. This be mah review on Madoka Magica! First of all, Story! 7.5/10 The story was really enjoyable, i like how they made it a dark anime, but in the end they gave it a mahou shoujo ending, but a bit sad one compared to other animes of that genre. In the TV series! Everything changed in the 3rd movie which included an unnecessary plot twist, which confuses most of us. Well it would be a different story if they are planning to make another movie, which could be extremely awesome, but it might also fuck up everything. Let's just hope it wont be bad. If it will happen. Characters 8/10 The characters in Madoka differ from each other quite notably, which is fresh and interesting... Character development makes an appearance quite notably and powerfully. Every character develops in every episode and we get to know more about them in every episode. Music 9/10 The music in the series wouod be the best thing ever if there were a. Bitmore of it. Some BGMs appear only on certain types of scenes and they never practically change. But in the movies they added a bit more, so that would get a better score from me. Animations 10/10 Best.Animations.Ever. They really didnt hold back with this one. Beautiful characters, beautiful environment, badass witch design and battle animations on par with Fate series animation . And they all have been elevated to a whole new level in the movies. Enjoyment 9/10 Everything after the first 3 episodes have kept me on the edge of my seat. So considering the beginning is mediocre I'll give it 9 points. Overall, 8.5/10 Quote
Down Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Since she's the creator does it count as canon material? Half the animators in the industry have a secret pixiv account where they draw porn of the characters they animate. Anime is basically made by a herd of massive perverts. Make that canon or non-canon material, I don't think it matters much in this culture where the creator and the consumer are so close in mind. (We could discuss the pros and cons of that, but I think that's partly where the lack of creativity in the industry stems from). Personally, I'd say that if you want to make a yuri anime, you should just go ahead and make a true yuri anime, not tiptoeing with implied stuff to please the otaku. Quote

She loves her characters and the close relationships they have, it's got little to do with pandering to an otaku world. Also I think something more undertoned and friendship based is anything but perverted, it's cute. I never said Madoka should be a yuri anime, just that the characters in the show are really close and the vibes you get off of them exist because of the original creator being a pretty big fan of this type of relationships. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with it. Also the relationship between Homura and Madoa plays a big role in the story wether you consider it yuri or not. Quote
Down Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I was more talking "in general" than about the specific example of Madoka. Although I do think the yuri 'undertones' in Madoka are there mainly to pander to a target. I'm not saying Aoki Ume is a pervert either (Hidamari Sketch is surprisingly tasteful in that regards), she probably had very little to do with the actual production in Madoka considering she's only the original chara-designer, and as far as I know she doesn't draw porn. I'm also using "massive pervert" in a joking sort of way here, it just makes me laugh that so many animators would draw porn in their free time. Quote
Kurisu-Chan Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Personally I'd go for comedy, since vampire as a genre is a bit narrow and I've already seen the vampire animes that look interesting to me. Is anyone watching Madoka btw? Because nobody has talked about it yet >.> I am Down, but i was playing Valkyria chronicles at the same time, that's why i hadn't advanced. Quote
Stray Cat Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Reminder to be done on Saturday. Polls are up as well. Quote
Kat Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Next Genre Will Be Comedy! For Officialness' Sake. Quote
Abyssal Monkey Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 My procrastination habit is showing again. I'm about to start watching right now. Quote
Fred the Barber Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Count me as "signed up" for the next cycle. Somehow I didn't notice the club even existed until this week, or I would've totally been on board for rewatching Madoka. Part of me doesn't want to offer a suggestion, so I can see something outside what I'd otherwise watch, but when I glanced over my shelves just now I saw a show I can't help but throw out there, so... My recommendation for a Comedy cycle: Working!! season 1 Quote
Nosebleed Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Sure why not, a good comedy can't hurt. My recommendation will be Sakigake!! Cromartie Koukou I really need to watch it. This Madoka cycle sure was boring, no one commented on anything (I talk to Down about anime all the time so he doesn't count) Though after watching the movies i wasn't particularly impressed, i've already discussed Madoka to death too. Meh, this is why i always prefer non mainstream shows for discussions. Quote
Stray Cat Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 In the spirit of Nosebleed, my recommendation is Milky Holmes. Quote
Shikomizue Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I will be joining the next cycle as well, with my recommendation being: Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou. Quote

kyrt Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I will be joining this next one. If I can suggest things my comedy recommendation is Desert Punk. If anyone is still watching Death Parade it's still interesting. Madoka is average the show was overhyped and it lost a lot of the enjoyment that most people probably received from watching it on a weekly basis. Quote
Kurisu-Chan Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Comedy? Don't know if it's pure comedy, but well, i propose "Bokura wa minna Kawaisou" Quote
colekitt Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I will participate in the next cycle my recommendation is D Frag Quote
Kat Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Umm. It would be nice if the show actually leaned to the comedy side more. Not just some parts are funny but in the rest you Fucking cry(angel beats) Quote
Nosebleed Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I've seen all the anime suggested (except the one I suggested), I can guarantee you none of the ones here do that. Maybe Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou leans a little on the feely side from time to time, but it's no angel beats. Very few comedy centered anime manage to make you feel hard. Quote
Kat Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Wow, guys pls. Kyubei's the best girl you can meet in your entire existence. And i dont even know why did you put him there but..yeah.. Love Kyubei.. He sometimes tries to use you but it's not like he means harm. Quote
OriginalRen Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 You know the phrase that says something is so bad that it's actually good? Choosing Milky Holmes is nothing like that statement; choosing Milky Holmes is better. Milky Holmes is so atrocious, it's a masterpiece. I recommend Milky Holmes S1 and S2. Quote
