XReaper Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 hi there fellow vn addicts, since i´ve got nothing to do & nothing to play either, i would love to hear some recommendations regarding a protag who starts out normal, but soon gets fed up with his role (reasons leading to this dont matter) and thus cuts all ties with his past/present to go on a frenzy. i don´t care if he butchers his fellow comrades in the progress or simply makes his goal bringing apocalyptic pleasures to humankind, but for what i do care is that the whole plot shouldn´t be a mindless rape feast.in short: protag is everyones darling, everyone expects alot from him, protag cracks under the pressure or gets enough of it out of his own will, protag makes a heel turn, disaster strikes... thank you for your patience whilest reading & wish you a good day Quote
Rose Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Cross Channel is the closest I know to what you're looking for. Consider giving it a try. Quote
XReaper Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 thx and yes cross channel goes somehow in the right direction, but unfortunaltely i´ve played it at least 5-6 times. Quote
Kaguya Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Cross Channel is the closest I know to what you're looking for. Consider giving it a try. I'd actually say that Cross Channel is more or less the opposite. Taichi begins as someone broken because of his experiences and we get to see his efforts to become a normal person... Or at least not hurt others. Quote
Clephas Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Soukou Akki Muramasa Midori no Umi (certain paths) Harumade Kururu Tsukiakari Lunch (bad ending) Quote
XReaper Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 ok thx think i´ll give some of them a try. more titles are always welcome, the more our protag turns out evil, the better Quote
Silvz Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 well, Saya no Uta has a MC who is alread "nuts", and sees everything gorier than it is. But he didn't start normal, so I don't know if that's what you'd like. Quote
XReaper Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 nah sry, best would really be if he starts out normal or if everyone just sees him that way and then he shows his true colurs one way or another. for example. like in the berserk series when griffith gets corrupted out of nowhere and sacrifices his fellow comrades and everything else on his way becomming the demon femto. Quote
Vokoca Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Euphoria focuses on this aspect quite a lot - most of it is about the protagonist holding back his dark urges and doing what is expected of him, doing what is right - and it's up to you in which direction you push him. There's one ending especially where he goes from a relatively normal student to... well, I won't spoil it. I also definitely agree with Muramasa. It's not only an amazing novel, but it shows you exactly what putting too much pressure on people does, sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Quote
mbl Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Swan Song has mental collapse in apocalypse Heart Work has a couple routes where the protag goes on murderous rampages (And they're branching) Those and what has already are all that really comes to mind on the translated front. Quote
XReaper Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 thx guys for your advise, since i didn´t read few of them so far or already forgot them. and they mustn´t necessaryly be translated ones, just mention everything that comes to your mind Quote
Clephas Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Protag isn't insane in Swan Song... everyone else is. Quote
Deep Blue Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Well one of them is since the vn has multiple protagonist Quote
XReaper Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 yes..maybee, but to tell the truth i´m primarily NOT interested in insane protags here. the protag should be in an ideal case someone like you & me, who gets corrupted by s.o. or s.th, or simply quits beeing nice for selfish reasons, may it be for the goal of gaining immortality or whatoever. Quote
Deep Blue Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 yes..maybee, but to tell the truth i´m primarily NOT interested in insane protags here. the protag should be in an ideal case someone like you & me, who gets corrupted by s.o. or s.th, or simply quits beeing nice for selfish reasons, may it be for the goal of gaining immortality or whatoever. Well, again that is swan song... I can't say much because i will spoil you the plot (Sadly I already did spoil it a bit by telling you that the protag turns bad)But everything you are looking for is in swan song. Quote
Clephas Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Devils Devel Concept? The protagonist is not nice... he is powerful, and he has a rather brutal view of the world. Quote
XReaper Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 yep something like that, with a protag who has a bit degenerated view of the world, sadly i´ve read that already since you´ve praised it alot. wish it would get a proper translation someday, since sanity ends got killed, that title definitely needs to be read Quote
Clephas Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Kaito from Akagoei (especially in the third game) fulfills your desires. Muramasa Yurikago yori Tenshi Made: The protagonist has a tendency to shift rapidly from 'best friends' to 'kill' when his switch gets flipped (and the switch isn't obvious) Semiramis no Tenbin: A lot of this VN is the protagonist's reactions to Ami's plotting and manipulation, and he can be pretty cold at times. Abyss Homicide Club: Protagonist insane in a way that isn't immediately obvious (in fact, it is only in Kasuka's bad end, the imouto's path, and the true path that you find out about it). The fact that the main heroine is freaking terrified of him is a clue, lol. Izuna Zanshinken: Protagonist switches rapidly from the heartless vigilante assassin to and from his everyday persona. Lots of seriously insane people in this one, too. Secret Game series Houkago no Futekikakusha: Protagonist being driven over the edge by despair. Quote
XReaper Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 thx again, that helped me alot. Quote
Vokoca Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Secret Game series Wait, the protagonist actually stops being incredibly dull? I might have to pick that VN back up. Quote
Clephas Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I was thinking Code Revise, actually... the protagonist in that one goes completely insane in path A... Quote
Howzer Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Actually made an account to answer this with a small contribution: Kira Kira has a kind of breakdown route for Shiino where the MC's mental health takes a serious nose-dive. In the end of that route, he starts seeing things like his dead girlfriend, but I think that's it for the entire VN, which may or may not fulfill your request. It definitely fulfills the "cracking under pressure idea" and I consider that route to be much better than the "true" route. Phenomeno could potentially go underneath this tagline too. It's a short, horror VN (that is actually creepy with great sound and ambiance...it actually delivers on creepiness) in which the MC does get carried away in the mystery. I can't really say much about it since it would spoil it, but it's short enough (at around 2 hours) that it wouldn't make too much of an effort to play. Getting it to work for me was difficult, so here's a link for the translation patch since I can't find it here on Fuwa: http://www.mediafire.com/download/caixmqj46hpp5lh/Phenomeno-Trial_en_patch-1.1.rar Other ones I would include would be Swan Song, but I can't think of anything at the top of my head outside of what Clephas said in which the MC does something that effectively dooms the world. mbl Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 The bit in Kira Kira is more of an understandable depression and not at all violent. yes..maybee, but to tell the truth i´m primarily NOT interested in insane protags here Makes the thread title of "protag gone nuts" kinda interesting. Heartwork still fits perfectly, protag accidentally swaps bags with an assassin. Bloodlust drives him to do some crazy stuff. Summaries will talk about him turning into an assassin himself, but that is just one of the routes. Howzer 1 Quote
XReaper Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 @howzer, thx for your suggestion, i´ll give it a try for sure @mbl, sry my bad. what i meant was, that the protag should ideally start out normal and then act different cause of various circumstances. for example you dont have to be insane to murder/sacrifice your family/friends to gain power, money, immortality, etc. its simply based on different values, regarding what to do with your life. in short: a highly sociophatic protagonist is what i need edit: the assassin stuff is close to what i´m searching for Quote
