epwicfail Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 On Route B (0.1) atm, and the dialogues are just way too chuuni and prententious. Characters jabber on forever on slice of life topics of no relevance, and their inner monologues resemble thoughts of a socially inept middle schooler. It's becoming a cancerous read. Does this continue throughout the game, or does it get better later on? From someone who's finished the game -- is there a route I can just skip to (ctrling past the previous ones) to where the pace starts to pick up? Quote
Eclipsed Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Haven't read I/O yet, though In my experience, if *anything* ever starts feeling 'cancerous' I think it's best to just drop it >.>. Very rarely does something ever get better once you start amounting some distaste for it. Btw, you might want to rename the topic title to "I/O Revision II - Does It Get Better?" or something if you want to hear others' opinions (putting 'Help' makes it sound like you have a technical problem instead)~ Quote
epwicfail Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Ah, k. Duly noted. I'm on the verge of dropping it, but I've been bombarded with reviews on the supposedly "godly" plot. Kinda like an Umineko deja vu, except Umineko's dialogue wasn't anything near as godawful as I/O's. Quote
Clephas Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I/O isn't chuuni... it is just needlessly complex. It is a lot closer to Ever17 that way than it is to Umineko (which is a pile of steaming crap, in my opinion). Quote
Zakamutt Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I'd rather compare it to say, Remember11 than Ever17 lol. It's still significantly less obtuse than R11, though. I didn't really note the problems with dialogue you're seeing so I can't comment on it though. Quote
castor212 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Have played it until the end back in the days. Nope, the technical jargon exist until the end of the game. Quote
Clephas Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 That said, I can see why it would be hard to follow... for one thing, it follows a pattern that was pretty common with mystery otaku-media in the nineties, in that it deliberately does everything possible to obfuscate what is actually going on and create uncertainty. To be honest, I was glad when the trend more or less died in the early twenty-first century, and I was a bit exasperated when Higurashi brought it back. That said, I/O is an excellent game for mindfuck-lovers... but if you don't want your brain overheating, you should probably avoid it. Quote
Nyanko Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 It's mindfuck sci-fi and like Clephas said, you gotta love it. From your description it sounds like this won't be your cup of tea. I wouldn't recommend Remember11 either, so maybe you should try something like Ever17 if you want something similar but easier to wrap your mind around. Quote
