Mugi Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Just so you can completely keep up with what is going on and such? I've never been one to do this, especially with VN's like Hoshizora, with painfully long common routes. But i'm curious if anyone actually does this. Quote
LinovaA Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 nope.avi I take enough time reading VNs as is. Quote
Deep Blue Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 nope, one time is enough that's why the control key exist Quote
monkeysrumble Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Never. Common routes are pretty boring the first time around, I wouldn't read through it twice. The only people I really see re-reading a common route are people who don't know they can skip the text. Quote
XReaper Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 that depends on how the common route is structured, you know with lots of different content after each choices, but when when its mostly the same i make use of the skip button. best thing to do when possible is reading 3-5 vns at the same time, completing one route and then moving on to the next vn, so that you might re-read the common route (if you dont remember everything clearly) Quote
TexasDice Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I might read a common route again, if I took a long break from the VN in question. But my memory for that stuff is very good, so I can remember everything while I'm overtaxing the skip button. Katawa Shoujo is an example of a common route which I have read over and over again, because it's good and short. Quote
GetterEmperor Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Nope. Usually just ctrl my way through it. Quote
Fiddle Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I only do if I've taken a large break between my first and second playthroughs, which I often do for the sake of maximizing the total yield of a given VN. Otherwise, I act in such a manner that I may be properly immersed in the game nevertheless, especially if I need to make some choices in the common route that come with a significant amount of new content upon their selection. Quote
Eclipsed Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Nah. At best i only read the new dialogue bits (if any) for any common route replays in between routes. Little Busters pissed me off the most going through the common route and making sure I set the proper flags to get into each route Quote

Silverbullet312 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Nope for me also.. I just skip through the whole thing Quote
Nyanko Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I would never really do that.. unless the content is so interesting or difficult it's worth to read it a second time. Even then, for more than 2 routes..never. I also don't think most common routes are made to read multiple times anyway, it's more like a (sometimes really long..) introduction before things start to get real! Quote
Nimbus Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 The way I usually go about common routes (in your average five heroine vn) is I will play through the first one, skip the second time, try and fail to read through the third time, skip the fourth and finally, wait a while before doing the final route then read all the way through that. The_Count Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 No way xD, common routes take too much time to complete; I would spend days doing each route. Quote
Abyssal Monkey Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Nope, along with everyone else, I only reread the common route when I haven't touched it for a long time and forget what actually happened. Even then, usually reading the first 10 minutes then skipping for about 30 seconds and reading a few lines is enough to refresh my memory. Quote
arakura Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Usually I do. At least somewhat, might skim a little depending on the story. This is also because I generally take long breaks between the different stories. If they were consecutive I'd probably read and skip in small portions through it? Maybe... depends on the story. Each time I read a different route of Katawa Shoujo, for example, I reread everything. I was less ridgid with Tsukihime, but still didnt completely skip through it until the last route or two Quote
edwd2 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 No, although I like to skip through the common route again Quote
ohiowar Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 People have the time to reread the common route? No I do not reread the common route. I might have to do this with some vn soon that I stop reading part of the way through. I was trying to read too many vn at once Quote
havoc Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 nope, usually not the common route is usually pretty boring. The only time i reread the common route is if i am rereading a vn. of course there are a few exceptions to this: tsukihime and muvluv alternative for example. Quote
Flutterz Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I skip through the stuff I've already read, but if possible I try to make as many new choices to see what else can happen. Quote
Mugi Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Hell to the no. I mean, maybe if I was rereading a VN completely, but not between each route. I've taken over a month to complete a route before, and even then I didn't go back to the common route. If you'd like, you could add a poll Can I still add one through editing the topic? I'm still relatively new so I didn't really think of that. Quote
Flutterz Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Can I still add one through editing the topic? I'm still relatively new so I didn't really think of that. You should be able to. Open the full editor on your first post and somewhere on the right you should have the option to open a poll. Quote
Tawm Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Nah, not between routes. I don't skip anything when I re-read something, though. If I re-read the common route each time, I'd probably have killed myself after Muv-Luv Extra. Quote
Zantax Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I was re-reading common route of couple first VNs I read (including Muv-Luv Extra for example ), but now I usually skip everything I already read once. VN takes a lot of time even with skipping read text. However I would say that skipping, while time-saving, is not that great. In common route you have character introductions, and sometimes even beginnings of each route plot. For me when I finish one route and immediately jump into another with common route skipping, for the first couple of hours it often feel very awkward. Even if I still remember common route and everything related to current character that was already told, it really don't feel right, and I have problems getting my mind into new route at the start. That's because I didn't read introduction included in common route, and didn't have chance to enter 'the right state of mind' Well, I just wanted to say that while I don't re-read common route myself it's not like I don't see the point of doing otherwise...
