Mr Poltroon Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 You realize that MangaGamer is drawing new sprites for everything, right? Or are the new ones the ones you're taking issue with? While I can't answer for him, I can say with confidence that the new sprites look terrible to me, though I guess they're still better than the originals...? Quote
Kosakyun Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 While I can't answer for him, I can say with confidence that the new sprites look terrible to me, though I guess they're still better than the originals...? Indeed. However, I cannot imagine Rena looking like that while I play. That's why I still think the PS2 version is the best. Although the original has its charms. Quote
Getsuya Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Is there a large difference between the PS2 ones and the DS ones? I think the DS ones are what they use for Sui. Quote
Vokoca Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Is there a large difference between the PS2 ones and the DS ones? I think the DS ones are what they use for Sui. Sui actually seems to have new sprites (and CGs?), they're a bit different from the PS2 ones. Not sure if those are the DS ones by any chance, but I find that quite doubtful, given the different resolutions - and the fact that Sui uses a lot of close-up sprites that would just destroy the quality completely. As for Alchemist having all the rights... I woner how this works with Sui? I'm not really sure who exactly Kaga is, but as a matter of fact Alchemist doesn't appear anywhere in Sui at all; not in the OPs, not in the logos, or copyright - only Kaga and 07th Expansion actually get credited. I do understand that getting rights from those companies is probably near impossible, but bleh... in the 'worst case' scenario they could've just tried to translate the console version instead, VNs are making their way there already either way... But oh well. I think the biggest takeaway from this will be the re-translation, because that was sorely needed. Quote
Quark Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Not really related, but still. MangaGamer will release Higurashi Hou for the West, which means the release of EVERY Higurashi arc (including Rei) on Steam with new sprites. More info: link Onikakushi is now slated for release this May 15th. BEST NEWS *faints* I don't really know anything about Sui, but I have had Hou's promo song on replay FOREVER Incredibly, incredibly hyped Quote
Wonderfullyevil Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 The new sprites are shiiiiiiny. But they look eh overall. They look too moe, and they don't look like they belong to a horror mystery. It's hard even when they have a "scary" look. I don't think blend with the BGs either. They look like they should be in a moege or nukige with bad art. Regarding TrianThology, the three authors of Rewrite are working on it, right? I haven't read Rewrite, but do they mesh well together? Quote

I know that when I started Higurashi I wasn't expecting a horror mystery... Quote
Decay Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Everybody knows what higurashi is already. At this point in time, anyone who buys into it isn't going to think it's some random moege. I don't think MG is hiding it in their marketing material. Quote

Vokoca Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Regarding TrianThology, the three authors of Rewrite are working on it, right? I haven't read Rewrite, but do they mesh well together? Ryukishi doesn't really mesh with anyone, giving his specific writing style - the difference in Rewrite was very apparent even after the translation. That said, I don't think it'll be a problem, if the stories are going to be separate in one way or the other. Wouldn't it be cool if the separate stories also had seprate art? :x Quote
Decay Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 All three writers have their own style and they were very apparent in Rewrite. Lucia's route was pretty wildly different from anything else in Rewrite, it's clear Ryukishi just kind of did his own thing. The Shizuru and Chihaya routes, written by Tonokawa Yuuto, kind of felt like generic shounen camp, especially Chihaya's route. Shizuru's route had a bit of a tragic end that was a little interesting and not like the rest of his stuff but overall when it got down to it, it was pretty much just thoughtless action. Romeo's parts of Rewrite were characteristic of the themes he likes to constantly touch on. Kotarou is a very Romeo-esque protagonist (and is probably the best part of the VN). One of the main themes of the VN is building friendships and the agony that comes from isolation and the dissolution of said friendships. I felt like Tonokawa especially wasn't very concerned with this aspect and it didn't come through very well in his routes. I guess one of the things about route based games like Rewrite is that it kind of doesn't matter if there's a writer mismatch, as they're working on more or less independent stories. If they were all working on one continuous story, it would be a mess, but that didn't happen there. Quote
Vokoca Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Another fail update on Trian Thology: If you open the site ( http://trt.07th-expansion.net/) and check the window title... 07th Expan tion?! Hahaha, is this really happening? Come on... Quote
Kosakyun Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 ...I should've read the previous pages. I didn't know that it wasn't actually a joke. Now I'm hyped as well. It's just that Ryukishi's art kills the hype a little... Quote
