Guest Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Hey was wondering about populating some of the existing solutions that have been listed on the forums and paste them at the bottom of the download page for each of the games. So all the Rewrite solutions we have found, put them as Troubleshoot bullet points at the bottom (with a show/hide button) i not sure what it should look like yet... but i know there must be a professional-looking way to do it. Any ideas? Quote
Steve Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Well how it is often done is that there is a "Need Help?" button that goes to a system of help and automatically searches for topics with the specific game. People would also be able to search for other keywords such as "rewrite walkthrough" and it would only list the WT or "rewrite windows 8" and it would find posts with that included too. There could be question if it helped in the end and if not, it would link to a post saying they should make a post on the forums. However i'm not sure how hard this would be to program. Quote
Kendjin Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I have seen something similar on another website, what is worth doing, is to add a collapsible tab at the bottom, this will pull the information from you wiki article (this does mean making a troubleshoot wiki for the issues, but it also means you can rely on the community to update with fixes) If you also add a line that opens up the wiki page in a new tab for those wanting to browse. This also allows you to be able to add one for walk-through too. Hope that made sense. EDIT: Just to point out, the starter implementation would be a simple link to the wiki page in question, you'd just need to get people to post into the wiki pages. Also I noticed you have a link to the wiki on the main page, so it would be a simple case of setting up the pages and since this is a good community I think you'd find they'd populate well. This means all you'd need to do is add the link into the page, and the walk-through could be done the same. While the original bullet point idea is a good one, it might be worth taking some of the work off of yourself and that's where the idea of using the wiki came in. Quote
Mephisto Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Just curious, is anyone going to set up a Wiki for troubleshooting? There are a lot of people having issues with missing file path location, or missing DirectX files, save file location failure, permissions, and we could hit all of those pretty easily with a specified troubleshooting page. Most of those issues can also be solved by the actual game installer, so another alternative could be to provide an alternative link to the game files that is not pre-installed. Quote
