Looks like LoveinSpace has finally finished tinkering with management sims (no one asked for) and has returned to their main project, Sunrider.

I am pumped, however this teaser kinda gets on my nerves. It looks like it is trying to imply that Ava will betray the crew, when nothing hints to such a development. I'm sorry Sunrider, I love you, but the one thing you are certainly not is unpredictable. Everyone and their mother knows that Chigara is going to have a Nia Teppelin style personality rewrite and they are going to play up Ava's injuries at the begining, but she'll be fine aside from a eyepatch.

I personally hope that there will be a three-way branch in the story, where you get to choose to side with the Alliance, Pact, or revive the Ryuvian Empire. It would be nice if a different crewmember objects to each of these choices, so you can put that airlock to good use. Not sure how likely that is, since there hasn't been much in the way of story branches so far. There is also my named allied character that I don't believe has been mentioned in game yet, Jack "Newtboot" Chauliac (I'm a dick to gamedevelopers).

Anyways, anyone else pumped? Got any hopes or predictions? Or have you dropped Sunrider?

I never got into Sunrider to begin with, sadly, but it seems to be one of the larger 'franchises' in the VN-scape.  While personally I'm unsure what I think about it, and it seems to be pumping out the sequels quite quickly, they're doing a good job with it considering how people seem to be going on about them.  Like I said, I'm not reading it myself, but at this stage I'm incredibly curious on how long they can keep things interesting, and whether or not it turns into a milked franchise or ends on a high note.  It's the first real franchise-level experiment in the OELVN world so far, or at least the only one with more than a single release out yet (disregarding Sakura games, RIP Dysfunctional Systems) so as someone interested in watching things grow it's not like you can just turn your head and watch it pass by, regardless of whether you're part of the audience or just observing how it develops.

The "Franchise" is a bit of an illusion. The way they had originaly planned the kickstarter releases, was in many small segments, which latter was decided to release to the public in bigger chuncks as a "trillogy" (that is what First Arrival and Mask of Arcadius is). However, after Loveinspace finished Mask of Arcadius they decided to do the spin-off Academy. So in actuality there really are only two titles, Sunrider and Sunrider Academy. Adding on the fact that only Academy cost money (the lesser product of the two), I'm not really sure I would call this a "Franchise"..... at least not a successful one.

I'll be glad to see it conclude. I enjoyed it for what it's worth, in spite of some obvious flaws with the writing and story. It's a decently entertaining time sink if you're not too critical about it.

It kind of annoyed me when I saw that they were working on a stat management sim in between Mask of Arcadius and the final installment, especially after how underwhelming Sunrider Academy is on all fronts, especially the core gameplay.

I'll go through First Arrival and Mask of Arcadius again when the full thing is released properly.

I'm actually amazed people managed to get into it so much. I played the first part and everything about Sunrider is so cliched, I couldn't expect myself to waste time on another space opera with mechas. I simply love how the entire crew of a battleship is compromised of females, while the captain suprisingly remains the only male; there's this peculiar feeling the entire theme is just a joke, while the guys had fun playing with all the ideas. I couldn't really bring myself to cope with it's elevated seriousness at certain points. Suprisingly, it's still a decent indie turn-based strategy game, which remains the best thing it has to offer. As for the story, I'd rather watch the Legend of Galactic Heroes from scratch, than play Sunrider again.

I'd say, if they will manage to conclude the series and end the story, they will show they're at least capable devs. You can pray their next game will be more original and won't revolve around copying various anime cliches.

Ha, they are an OELVN crew. I wouldn't put too much hope in avoiding cliches and tropes

I played SR MoA and I thought it was really good. I haven't had a good space opera experience in a long time. Seeing as the lack of Space Opera animes has drained my scientific exploration skills entirely, this VN reignited my passion for gigantic space mech combat and story.

The Music was top notch. If this game deserves any praise, it would be for its soundtrack that indulges itself in these space battles and epic space invasions.

I'm hyped for the next game.

Academy was a good break from the main SR universe, but overall it was just another boring dating sim game that didnt strike much interest with me.

I am pumped to the limit. I hope they have another great soundtrack this time around too. Some new music and new characters would be great!

Also... The heroines need voices! The voices when you are in battle is so low quality and it hurts my ears when they repeat the same thing over and over again.

For example, "Imma firing my lasers!" The way she says it and the way it is recorded is so bad...

You get all this money from the kick starter to make a high quality space opera and you deliver crappy in game voices to boot.

I know the team can do better, so let's see it.

It had very solid strategy gameplay, especially for a free game. It was pretty surprising.

Fixed.   :holo:

Yup.

The last one available was Aldnoah, which is times better and there's Sidonia S2 airing at the moment, which is propably even better. I'm not entirely sure about the lack of space operas, unless you mean grand epic stuff like the Legend of Galactic Heroes. Hopefully not, because we don't need more bloated tapeworms.
