Clannad to be released on Steam by Sekai Project
Loco15 and 7 others reacted to solidbatman for a topic
Oh shit youre right. Lets ignore this since its only maybe the biggest VN release and says that Visual Arts is ready to release in the West. Silly me for being happy.8 points -
That's like saying: mozart is awesome but his stuff is 300 years old so it doesn't really matter anymore. Age on its own doesn't diminish a product's value (well unless that product is food that can go bad), the fanbase loves Clannad, therefore it's logical to think that if they release this product people will want to buy it. Nothing wrong with it being 10 years old. And i'm sure if we support it then we will see even bigger and more recent titles. It's all about creating a solid foundation.6 points

[Ongoing] Fuwanovel Social Media Revamp Project
Nimbus and one other reacted to solidbatman for a topic
Alright, so its time to begin pushing my plan forward a little bit here. The purpose of this thread is to lay out my plans for the Fuwanovel Social Media department and what I would like to see moving forward from it. Right now, I am in control of 3 out of the 4 Fuwanovel social media outlets. These are, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. The fourth, VisualNovelAer is in flux right now. So for the moment, there is nothing I can do about that until I know what the plans are for the blog (be it reconstruction or simply adding more writers). So here are the current teams. Facebook: solidbatman, Nosebleed, ryouuuuu, Kaguya (inactive), Tay (doesnt use but access if needed), unnamed (inactive) Twitter: solidbatman, zakamutt, Tay (doesn't use, but has access if needed) Youtube: solidbatman Blog: Tay, zakamutt, god knows who else The Facebook continues to grow at a healthy pace and we will pass 13000 likes within the next month. The Twitter is close to 400 followers. With a bit of work, we can likely surpass the original twitter account. Youtube is still being planned out, but work should begin within the week. What I have planned for the Youtube channel, is to record about 30 minutes of every Visual Novel we have offered. These videos can then be embedded on the download page for the visual novel as a sort of trailer for those who might have limited bandwith, or would like to see the VN in action before downloading. Choices will be done through annotations and unlisted videos to keep from having spoilers. Also possibly being hosted are official Fuwanovel Let's Plays and the Official Fuwanovel Podcast. Both of these are still under consideration and I will await feedback before deciding. The blog is I don't even know. Some needs: Facebook: We need someone able to assist users in tech support questions. I don't have time to go through each comment and post and even less to investigate every issue that pops up. Nosebleed has been doing this as much as he can, but recently everyone has become busy. We do the best we can, but could really use some help. Twitter: Zaka and myself tend to hit all the news we need to on this front. That said, having someone who can TL tweets from VN companies overseas would be a god send. We also need to remove the old twitter account from the front page and replace it with the new one. It won't take any effort to actually do. Just needs someone who has access to the front page. Youtube: TBA Blog: TBA The end goal for all of this is to make Fuwanovel the go to outlet for VN information and news. We've focused so much on hosting VNs, I think its time to actually educate about VNs now and make it easier for people to support their favorite VNs and developers. In the end, I want Fuwanovel to actually be a part of the official western VN community by removing all licensed games, having information pages for licensed VNs (these pages also having a 30 minute demo video), and providing links to purchase licensed VNs instead of a download. I would also like to see Fuwanovel put together instructions for those looking to import physical copies of JP only titles (titles that have been Fan TL'd) and having a purchase link alongside those download links. By using social media to educate and inform, we can perhaps make Fuwanovel a friend to localization companies, and become a resource that isn't hated by those companies. If you have any questions, want to offer any feedback, or want to give us a hand, feel free to PM me or post in this thread. Thank you for reading!2 points -
This might possibly be the most important english language VN release yet.2 points

This is an important step but there's another big one after that. So far those hype games Steam releases are old licenses with established fanbases and existing fan translations. Now Sekai Project needs to go ahead and license recent, high-profile and yet untranslated visual novels. If we start to see a flux of new translations for big games that sell well (at a higher pace than the few games here and there that MG and JAST do), then I think things will look really good.2 points

What is free will?
Katatsumuri and one other reacted to crunchytaco for a topic
I agree that the sum of our parts makes up who we are, like the tiny hamsters running wheels inside our heads. It's just that the definition of free will here is stretching to what it applies to, and I'm not sure if you're aware of it. Let me run a rewind a bit to freshen memories. On a conscious level, you believe you are here discussing with me using your conscious effort. But as I have explained, the left brain works in retrospect. It is the conscious part of you that narrates the story in your mind. It tries to make sense of things even if it has to make up facts to do so (refer to the chicken shed response). Outside of split brain experiments, this is proven to happen during investigations when the same testimony changes details each time it was repeated to fit the narrative in the testifier's head without them even realizing it. Your body has made every decision before you're even aware of it because your consciousness is the slowest reacting part in your brain. It's once these actions become visually apparent in front of the left brain that you begin processing it on a conscious level. Yet it is the conscious part of your brain that convinces you it's the one in control of all your decisions. Each part works on such a different level, with such distinct job functions, it's fascinating that we even consider them one and the same brain. If we are not aware of our choices, but we still classify that as free will, then this is no longer the classical definition of free will that we know it as.2 points -

So I guess you decided to completely ignore the part where I demonstrate (not just claim like you do, but demonstrate where the claim comes from) that pretty much anything is a choice, even if the action you take as a result has no chance of succeeding, and whether or not your choice influences anything it's still a choice, and both the water and airplane examples are the same in this regard. You can choose to not fall after being pushed out of an airplane, you can even try to make a makeshift parachute out of your clothes or something, but you will most likely fail and fall anyway, even though you made the choice to not fall. Since you can't even be bothered to read my points, I won't post anymore since there's no point in it. But I probably knew before I made my first post that no matter what anyone says you won't be convinced, but I still made the choice to convince you, and just because there is absolutely no result doesn't mean I didn't make that choice.1 point

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
mr0cheese reacted to neromercer for a topic
More like, "What I played". Last week I finished in a row all four first .hack// Games, the .hack//I.M.O.Q. Saga is quite the thing! Basically, to my completion list, .hack//Infection, .hack//Mutation, .hack//Outbreak and .hack//Quarantine have been added. Now I'm completing everything that has to do with .hack// Project before starting with Conglomerate Project (Roots, G.U.), like, reading the light novels, etc... the only ones that are left before starting Conglomerate are the last two volumes of .hack//Another Birth and .hack//Alcus (manga) Therefore, I guess I could say... that I'm playing the G.U., or that I'm going to play really soon, or whatever.1 point -

That's what I was talking about when I said "the purpose of the movie". (I added spoiler tags btw) I thought it was really a meaningful, powerful ending. In retrospective it makes the very contemplative, almost depressive tone of the movie all the more significant. That's pretty common with Oshii's works. Not the same guys actually. Patema Inverted was made by Yoshiura Yasuhiko, a newcomer director who previously did Eve no Jikan and Pale Cocoon. I guess Pale Cocoon has a tone close to that of Sky Crawlers, but this aside his sci-fi is less contemplative and more "joyful" than Oshii's, who's a veteran and always had a tendency to do very metaphysical, contemplative and a bit depressive sci-fi when he can do whatever he want.1 point

I never said that everything began the same way just because peoples memories and experiences are the same. Quite the contrary though. I wouldn't really call it an opinion. There are 12 elementary particles in this universe that everything is built upon. Each of them behave and interact with one another in a specific manner. Somebodies memories and experiences are not special. It is just information. It is the external factors which influence the memories. Using those memories, the human brain then takes in that information and processes it. The processed information allows you to make a decision and take on the next course of action. That affects other external factors and that gives rise to more memories. It is supposed to create a chicken and egg situation. There is nothing wrong with the chicken and egg situation. You grow a tree. Tree produces seeds. Plant seeds. Repeat. Lets try make things simpler. You throw something. It will fall with a certain acceleration because of gravity. No matter how many times you repeat the experiment, unless you change gravity itself, it will always fall down at the same rate. Gravity is an independent variable in this case. However in a real situation, there are so many independent variables that cause different results. If every single one of these were controlled then the same result will occur. If you apply this to the start of the big bang, then you will get the same result. (To anyone else, yes I know I am neglecting quantum but I am just trying to get a point across) It does not matter because as long as anything about the human brain does not exist outside space-time, it won't be possible for the results to change. Even if it is encountering something foreign, it is still a processor. It is similar to adding an extra piece of code into a system saying "If stimulus is unknown, gain sufficient data" or something like that.1 point

You're doing exactly what he's talking about (tripping over yourself) right here: You're ignoring the fact that no matter what you want to call it, "impossible choice" or "not a choice" the point is exactly the same, you're using the special pleading fallacy. Under your definitions anything can be a choice but the choice to have sex leads to a contradiction. So instead of having to bother and figure out why you have a contradiction, you just call it "not a choice" and there's no problem.1 point

Clannad to be released on Steam by Sekai Project

Prepare your face for the palming of its lifetime: <0044> \{HR Teacher} "Until then, feel free to do whatever you'd like. The students who forgot to take the exams should bring a feather."* // do they bring feathers to exams? for ink or something? // It certainly says feather, but it doesn't seem like calligraphy to me. The feather might be the evidence that denotes a retake, but that's a wild guess. -Amoirsp // I tried looking up various uses for a feather. The only one remotely close is the writing use for it. Must be cultural or conditional. So Tomoya ... never missed any. -Amoirsp // \{担任}「それまでは各自自由。今日一日は受験のことを忘れて羽根をのばしなさい」 "Kind of rough" was maybe an understatement. Perfectly logical conclusion there, Amoirsp. The game deserves better than that. That is not good enough for any kind of release, let alone to charge money for. Obviously they are going to continue to work on it, but if they actually want it to be good, they can't use that as a base.1 point -

Welp, Doki are saying that they'll be working with Sekai Project on this. Doki is the group currently "polishing" the existing translation. No matter how good they are at that, that original translation was really bad. They'd need to start from scratch in order to instill confidence. Hopefully this won't be a total disaster.1 point -

There's an unfinished fan translation for it but that's it. The patch translated everything but didn't get complete editing or TLC passes and is kind of rough. It's possible that they could use it as a base but maybe they'll try to do the whole thing from scratch, which might be better in the long run. That will take a long time to do.1 point -

BookwormOtaku reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
Which is why it's so important that people support this. If sales are disappointing this will prove to be a step backwards rather than a step forwards. That being said it's being released on Steam where Indie games sell a bundle and there's plenty of people out there who like the anime, so theoretically it should sell okay.1 point -
Everyone pack your bags, there's nothing left to do here. Seriously though this is a massive accomplishment no matter how you kook at it, Key opening up for Western releases was something i didn't expect in the near future, especially not Clannad. I wonder how much SP can achieve now, i don't think AB! Coming to the west is a such a wild fantasy now.1 point

Finished the game now. All I can say is, the powerful narrative, the beautifully written dialogue, the amazing variety of endings, and of course, the copious amounts of butter, make this VN an absolute 11/10 My favorite end was definitely the one where Gordon Ramsay got a prostate exam from Paula with a stick of butter, have to say that was just pure romance right there. I'd recommend this to anyone, of all ages, it is a story you'll never forget.1 point

You use me. Name a visual novel you want, PayPal me the money with the included shipping costs, and I will buy you any game from Japan. I actually had a thread for this if I am not mistaken... https://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/4829-japanese-video-blogpersonal-vn-requests Using me means you get the cheapest deals since Japan never buys any of their PC games used. Sofmap has anything your heart desires, and it's just a matter of what you are willing to spend. Heck, you can even get hard copies of CEs. To give you an example, Clochette's Prism◇Recollection! costs a total of 1,400 yen (~ $14.00), and that includes a fully illustrated art book and some collectibles. http://vndb.org/v90921 point -

That is all the brain is. It is a processor. Just like a computer. However it analyzes more data than a computer. It does stuff differently. However whatever you make the brain out to be, it ends up being something that takes in information and uses that to form decisions. It makes it seem like you're saying that the consciousness exists outside the bounds of space-time. :| How does having a all knowing supercomputer make anything different? It is independent to the concepts that are being discussed. Just because it is or isn't there doesn't change how the universe works. Everything will still behave in the same way. You will just have a means of finding out how. At this point I don't really know what you're trying to argue.1 point

Difficult to read =/= bad. I may not be able to judge it from a player's perspective since it's still outside of my difficulty range, but I could see this being a fun map to play once I get better. I noticed that one of the bubbles for this map came from Charles445 (I have a lot of respect for this guy). Plus, there's 4 S's on this map, so I don't see why it should be frowned upon. Personally, I like it when maps try something different. It helps expand your skill range when you practice at it. And is there anything at all that would make this map unrankable? I don't think Thelewa's opinions should be taken seriously at all. Have we already forgotten how he was on Ask? There's also a lot of people that like this map, so why hate on it and not just ignore it? There's plenty of other maps that could be better suited to your preferences.1 point -

If you enjoyed G-senjou no Maou, I'm confident that you would enjoy Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo . Additionally, the game doesn't have what you'd call traditional character routes so you'll get just short of the complete story even if you don't see all the heroine endings.1 point
