  6. lol, the game isn't even two years old. The translation project is new and just went public a week or so ago. If the last week was anything to go by, the translator seems to be pretty fast and I look forward to the results.

  20. Well, I've pretty much got my life set in stone at this point. Unless I decide on going back to school, or by a stroke a luck win some kind of lottery, I'll be a family man who will live here all my life. My job is a mere formality, basically. I can be fired... maybe...? I work at a sports club on my neighborhood where my family practically owns the place. Or at least, we've got a lot of history, having owned it in the past. Now that I think about it, my history is all worthless for this conversation. I don't interact with people nearly enough for them to ever get to know my true personality. Well, I like it this way. Other forums where I never got used to them my posts may be nice, but I hardly post. Since I like this community, and I have yet to be told I have seriously offended someone (otherwise you would have seen an incredibly apologetic me, which I really would rather not show), I think it's altogether better if I just roam free. Anyways, I can confirm with real life experience as well, people never get to truly know me until they've heard me go on a sarcasm-filled commenting spree. Though I don't recall throwing too many insults around, exception being during the grumpy Penguin disease. Posts on this thread are a mere caricature, however, as they have been for a long time now.

  21. The sad thing is I'll probably read it regardless of the translation quality. 10/10 cutie-patootie cat-girls are enough for me. They're all I need in life.

hmm, the chance to get an official version of Grisaia no Kajitsu, through a quiz of the same game I adore? You act like I wouldn't participate in this.

  23. I really don't want to say this again, but we're doing it however makes the most sense. If everything else is done by the time Agave patch is done, then we release everything else next. Simple.

    Do you buy VNs?

I buy most of my Visual Novels nowadays. Though the last two titles I read (Kikokugai and Quartett) I didn't buy because Kikokugai is going to be released by Jast someday so I'll by it then (or I'll buy the remake when my japanese gets good enough to read it) and the company that made Quartett is dead so they're not going to get any of my money anyway and it's incredibly expensive for a game of that length. Currently I own: Umineko, Umineko Chiru, Umineko Tsubasa, Aselia the Eternal, Steins;Gate, Kanon, Air, Rewrite, Rewrite Harvest Festa, Higanbana 1, Higanbana 2 and Shikkoku no Sharnoth (also waiting for Aiyoku no Eustia to arrive).

  29. Dark souls. Just Dark Souls. It's that feeling when you've almost beaten a boss, and you grow more and more tense the longer the fight goes on, until finally you know: Just a few more hits and I have won, but If I make a mistake, I'm dead. And then you win, and victory has never felt better.

  30. While I'm naming the candidates for the October releases, I figured I would revisit the purpose of this thread. This thread was made, ultimately, as a place for me to give people a general idea of what to expect going into the games released in a particular month. As such, I consciously over-utilize VN and otaku terminology, and in most cases, the actual comments don't constitute a true review. Also, I inevitably focus on the narrative aspects of the game, unless the music, VAs, or visuals are either extremely high or low quality. This is because VNs are ultimately a vehicle for narrative, the system of adding a visual aspect (tachie, CGs) and an auditory aspect (music, voice-acting) is ultimately meant to enhance the narrative, rather than define it (yes, this is my opinion, and I'm deliberately ignoring nukige, since they aren't the subject of this thread in general). As such, I tend to focus on how enjoyable that narrative is to me or who it would be enjoyable to, even if it is not to my tastes. This is my primary reason for playing so many charage/moege despite the fact that they are far outside my normal range of tastes. The fact that I play so many of them is mostly my idea of VN community service, though I do enjoy the excavation of the occasional true masterpiece buried amongst the mediocrity. So what am I trying to say? Essentially, I'm trying to say that the general reason I avoid spoilers inasmuch as it is possible without failing to inform the reader, is because the mini-reviews here are meant to inform other Japanese-reading VN-addicts choices. To be blunt, the sheer volume of VN releases out there makes picking and choosing a pain in the rear. I remember how annoying it was filtering through dozens of kusoge to find a single likely gem when I first started... and frankly, I don't want to inflict the same suffering on others. I avoid the spoilers as much as possible because my focus is ultimately narrative, rather than the overall focus seen in traditional reviews... this is also why I tend to call them comments or mini-reviews, rather than acknowledging them as true reviews. List of October Candidates http://vndb.org/v14523 http://vndb.org/r32814 http://vndb.org/v14924 http://vndb.org/r34151 Because Dragon Age: Inquisition is coming out in mid-November, I don't know how much I'll have to work, university is getting busy, and because I'm just not all that interested in it, Koiharu Adolescence will probably get put into my random vn thread whenever I choose to play it. I seriously doubt I'll have time to play many extras in November or December, so my apologies in advance.

  31. There are a thousand arguments, and counterarguments, for a thousand methods. While a few are likely near-objectively shit, the rest will mostly be up to taste. Actually consistently learning is probably more important than efficiency of method; if you can narrow down your skills and weaknesses when it comes to learning, people can give better advice. (I just realized that I inadvertently copied the meaning of Tay's post. Go me.) If you decide to go for RtK for example, realize that you're going to spend at least two months or so purely grinding kanji using that method. That might be effective for some people (see Tay above, although being a med student makes him somewhat of a special case to begin with), but can also be highly demotivating as you really don't get much better at reading Japanese for that period (and yes, it is specifically advised that you don't try to learn (anything involving kanji) using other methods in the meanwhile, as this will make the RtK method less effective. More or less.) Personally I don't find this a huge problem, but your experience may differ. Many people that say you have to eventually get around to the kanji after learning other stuff actually recommend RtK for that purpose. It's a long-term potential efficiency gain.
