  1. It also came with a t-shirt and pillow case, not pictured. I also have a Katherine wallscroll above it. You could call me a fan of the game. I bought it because I own a lot of physical Atlus products and the entire premise of Catherine (Romance/Horror) immediately captured my interest even before I played it. The demo sold me on it and I preordered the collector's edition the next day.

  2. I've done a giveaway on here before, so I figured it was about time for another one. One of the perks of purchasing games directly from Mangagamer's website is that you can typically get a Steam Code for the All-Ages version, if one is available. At the moment you have to send an e-mail for it, but they're working on getting it automated. If you've purchased a game, always send their support staff an e-mail and ask if there is a Steam Code that could go with the game. I happen to have one of those codes from the copy of Cho Dengeki Stryker I purchased a while back. I have no use for it, so, I think I should share the love! So what do you have to do to enter? (Please read the whole entry, as anybody is eligible to win!) I'm not particularly a fan of owning digital copies of games - I much prefer to own the physical edition. It's an entirely different feeling to be able to hold onto the box and know that this copy is yours. I'm curious to know how many people agree or disagree with that sentiment. If you own a physical copy of any Visual Novel, especially if it's one of your favorites, take a picture of the box, or show off everything inside of it. Somewhere in the picture, you need to have your Fuwanovel name written on a piece of paper, legible, included with the stuff. That way I know you didn't just go to Google and sneak some random stock photo... If you don't own any physical copies of Visual Novels, how about any other video game? Especially games that are more than just a disc and a case. Same story - take a picture, have your Fuwanovel name written on a piece of paper in the picture as well. If you don't own physical copies of anything, or don't own a camera, then you're going to have to exercise your paint and/or photoshop skills and draw me a game cover of your favorite Visual Novel. It doesn't have to be amazing (I can't draw to save my life, don't worry). Obviously make sure your Fuwanovel name is somewhere on it as well. Along with your picture - just tell me why you decided to buy the title you took a picture of, or if it was a gift, tell me why you liked it! Just a short blurb is fine, unless you want to write a novel about it - I'll happily read it. I’ll let this run until December 1. On that day, I’ll use a random number generator and pick a winner based on the post number. One entry per person. Multiple posts will result in disqualification. If you have questions, PM me! Good luck! The disclaimers from the suits are in the spoiler.

  3. Gleam Garden Review It*s been a while since I last read a VN without skipping a good portion of it. These days, the more I play, the more repetitive things get. Much of the visual novel industry is still obssesed with the cliches and plot patterns that we've seen for years, and this is unlikely to change if market demand is strong, sadly, it still is. Gleam Garden is Cosmic Cute's second novel, following Lovesick Puppies which released only a few months prior. Don't let its predecessor and fluffy cover art fool you though, this game isn't quite your typical moege. The story follows our protagonist Touji, a mentor who supervises the so called "witches", girls bestowed with mysterious and often deadly powers, isolated in a special training facility to aid their re-transition to society. Most of the plot takes place in this high school so don't let your hopes too high, it's still the typical slice of life you'd expect, but at least the protagonist is a teacher this time. The underlying conflict revolves around growing tension between humans as we know and humans of greater power, in this case "witches". This is, once again, an ageless theme that has recurred countless times in works of fiction and nonfiction of many media; we fear what is alien to us. Actual "witch" hunting dates back to the bubonic plague and beyond, the term itself brings negative sentiments. That said, his job isn't easy, but it pays off over time. I have to say that they saved the best for the last, the game becomes quite dramatic and action-packed near the end of each route (and for most of the true route); there are some intense and heartwarming moments here and there, expect a good ride. You have the choice of five heroines, one hidden, unfortunately, this game has locked routes. I found three of the heroines attractive and thus only completed three routes. Some of the characters have memorable traits while others are almost entirely defined by a type, not too surprising either, it all comes down to your preferences (I hate large breasts...). The protagonist is pretty much an older version of Kaito or Yuuji, proactive, strong, decisive, and badass, not anywhere near Minato though, he lacks personality. Character development is better than average, our setting naturally helps, but the plot doesn't take us far enough to trigger any major changes, the time frame is rather limited (except the true route). I would like to see a fan disc with after stories set years later. On a side note, the protagonist*s best friend, usually the comic sidekick, plays a rather unique role here, he doesn't appear much but you'll see. Art deserves an A. Luna's CGs, in particular, are very well done, the first one left me glued to the screen for a good minute. Soundtracks are fine, they do get repetitive at times, you can always turn the BGM lower. Character voices, my only complaint is one of the heroine's timid voice and choppy sentences, but the CV isn't to blame for what the script reads. Other than that, mostly on the spot. Gleam Garden is worth a try if you're looking for a decent medium length novel mildly packed with action and emotion. As always, you need the proper state of mind. Want an epic scale masterpiece? Look elsewhere. Otherwise, sit back and relax. Overall Score: 72/100 Comparison with similar works: Screenshots:

  5. This is no exaggeration. The stuff on Tuchanka alone with Mordin and the genophage is enough to make it my favorite of the three games. Then there's this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RNkz4Nr-2g The game simply had a lot of emotional impact.

  9. I do have other limited editions but none of them are accessible to me at the moment. I always prefer physical copies when possible for exactly the same reasons you listed. I feel like I'm getting something for my money that's tangible and that makes it worth it for me. Reason for buying: Resistance is futile. Seriously though, I really do love the Persona franchise (even if they are currently milking P4 for everything it's worth). Since Persona 3 is my favorite game of all time, I was really curious to see how the P3 cast was doing so once they announced it would have those characters in it (especially Junpei) I was pretty much sold.

  11. On the next episode of blogging in Japan, Ren heads to Ueno where he seeks a delicious cup of hot chocolate. Feeling spontaneous, he travels back to Akiba in hopes of finding something related to Love Live. Does he succeed? Will he ever consider Milky Holmes a good anime? Will he ever find a Domino's Pizza?! Tune in to find out! Enjoy the episode!

  12. This is one of those topics that are difficult to answer. I love VNs, music, manga, video games and sports. I've distanced myself a bit from anime since I've felt that most adaptations are sub-par to say the least. I don't think that the answer is a constant one because at one time I may as well be thinking that VNs are the holy grail(dat reference) but next time I'll advocate, for example, for video games.

  13. I have a soft spot for moogles. Montblanc is definitely my favorite. He was on my roster for nearly every encounter in Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, and when I spotted him in FFXII I about died. Moogle is the master race. Kupo!

  16. Sports, games and books are all ahead. I love sport. Before my skin condition forced me indoors I played Golf, cricket and tennis. After I was limited to indoors I played squash. I also watch as much sport as possible, from motor racing to cycling to rubgy league to tennis. I love them all. I’ve been in a huff today cause Australia just lost the cricket… Books and gaming are pretty high up also. Books will always be my favourite medium for stories (the detail and the different ways scenery can be described can't be matched by the visual mediums imo,) and gaming will always be there when I’m in need of a gameplay fix. Visual Novels would come somewhere after those three, equal in place with interactive fiction or interactive stories (like “The Walking Dead” or “Sunless Sea.” The Walking Dead made a bigger impact on me than any visual novel I’ve read… but that’s because I’m a sucker for post-apocalyptic/survival stuff.)

  19. Finally finished the Hebijo story mode for Senran Kagura; really enjoyed this mode as it really was surprising how it managed to do everything the Hanzo mode did alot better, especially the character development parts (kind of a tie between Yomi and Hikage's that I like best). Really can't wait to try out Shinovi versus (currently downloading Bon Appetit to my Vita and it's taking a while) and I'm really hoping Xseed announces the second game's localization soon.

  20. Protagonist wise Yuuji is my fav. I don't really care about his combat ability, but his inner thoughts and conversations are just so funny and amazing by protagonist standards, which can be pretty low at times given Japan's love of shitty self-insert leads. Side character wise Kenji from KS is an OG. I ended up on his "bad" end 3 times and didn't even care. Best character in the game.

  25. Yea I agree with this, the deformed CGs were extraneous, or they should have put in more effort. You remind me of how some folks used to act on MAL: "Your scores are laughable", "how can you rate Code Geass lower than 9!?", "this should be better than that, etc. etc." C'mon, can't expect everyone to have the same tastes now, and if all you care is that rather trivial number I gave at the end, there are thousands of them on EGS or VNDB for you to laugh at.

  26. I'm glad you had the emotional support in such a time. Keep fighting, and don't give up^^ I'm glad you're still here. Yeah, I do find it true. Time will eventually help you heal. Things may be very painful at the moment, and seems all-consuming and never-ending... but it will get better as time passes. Then you'll look back, and realize it wasn't as bad as it seemed, and you've become stronger for being able to get past it. Your mind is a very powerful source, just by changing your thought process to think more positively about things and having hope, you'll start to feel better... every time you think something negative, stop yourself, and try to think about the good things instead.. give yourself a chance. Having been through some dark times myself, I think I can understand. Before, it was stormy, felt like I was stuck in some kind of deep whirlpool.. because I let myself believe there was no way of escaping. But now that I know better, depression for me feels like waves. When it comes, I weather it, but I know it'll soon pass.

  28. The biggest problem with Moenovel's slash and burn tactic is that they don't take out only the h-scenes, but everything that references them, and anything that might be construed as just slightly racy. They had to leave big gaping holes in the Ageha route and it was worse off for it. There are good ways and bad ways to do that kind of thing and Moenovel chose the worst way. Pulltop is releasing an all-ages version of Konosora for PS3 and Vita in a month and it's guaranteed to be done in a much more elegant manner. IF they are to remove h-scenes, then they better do it right. They're bound to get shit on by fans either way. And this is all assuming that they can do a decent translation job this time around. If not, then none of this matters one bit.
