Persona series for sure. 3 and 4 are on the PSN, if you don't mind missing out on the extra content from the PSP/Vita ports. Persona Q comes out in a few days for the 3DS, but you'd be better off playing that one after you beat 3 and 4. 3 and 4 are only 10$ each from what I remember, and Q is probably a full release.

I would say that in general, the types of charage get the most attention here, with more linear plot-heavy games not getting as much attention. Fuwa posters want to be able to pick a cute waifu. Anyways, I don't think it was too dark. It's not as dark as Kara no Shoujo was, in my opinion. There are actually more light-hearted comedic relief segments, and the main heroine is a total goofball. There are still some brutal murders, of course, but that aspect doesn't overpower the rest of the game. As an interesting aside, I think this generally approximates the tastes of the english-reading VN community as a whole, and actually showcases a change from several years go when story-driven titles were much more popular. I think Katawa Shoujo might have brought a different audience into the picture and caused this development. Up until Cartagra's English release, it had an average rating of 7.82 on VNDB, but the average rating of votes post-translation is only 7.51. That's the difference between being ranked #94, and ranked #200. Typically, when english translations are released, VNDB ratings go up, not down. I think if MG released Cartagra four years ago, it would be receiving a much higher vote average, maybe above 8.0. Likewise, if Kara no Shoujo was released this year as opposed to four years ago, it would have a much lower rating. That said, I don't think many individuals' tastes have changed, just that there are a lot more people reading VNs these days, and most of the newbies seem to prefer charage.

The Tales series with their tidbits (small cutscenes [story and non-related] using character sprites, see below) comes super close in actual storytelling and are great RPGs. Playing Xillia right now and it's a freaking blast. There's Symphonia (GC remake), Xillia and Xillia 2 for the PS3 and a Tales of the Abyss remake for the 3DS.

Meh, she's gonna die in the manga anyway. I'll be pissed if she didn't. But I'll be pissed if she did too. ohgodwhy

I personally found Conception II to be terrible but you may like it. Definitely second every Persona game ever (probably better to start with 4). Also sticking on Atlus, Devil Survivor Overclocked is really good. Catherine is also good and has a great story, but it's more puzzle than RPG. You can also buy the Kingdom Hearts remakes on PS3. Also The World Ends With You on DS is amazing.

Cartagra Licensed by Mangagamer Summary The hero of this story is Takashiro Shugo, an ex-police officer that is now unemployed and freeloading at a brothel. From time to time he takes on detective work from his former superior. As the story starts off, a missing person case is dumped onto him. The person he is supposed to find is Kohzuki Yura, a girl he had an intimate relationship with before being sent off to war. While all this is being played out, a series of brutal killings occur in the background. As they strike closer to home, Shugo is no longer able to turn a blind eye and is dragged into the spiraling web of events. Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order The game has a rather linear plot and thus the routes don't massively branch off. This walkthrough doesn't use saves as per the guidelines but some routes will have very similar paths up until a certain point. Koyuki & Seri and Kaori are bad ends rather than routes. Nana's and Takako's routes are bad ends too, there's no good end for them. The only good end routes are thus Hatsune and Kazuna. Kazuna's route has two different endings: a normal and a true one. The true one can only be unlocked after having obtained the normal one. Following this walkthrough entirely in the order indicated will get you all the CGs. When I indicate (Your choice) there's a small variation on the CG to be collected so if you want 100% completion you should do both.
