    Cursed Sight

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVc4RKQSHa8&list=UUbc0jPjgo4r_McbzaLajKWQ Being able to control fate would be a blessing for many. To Miyon, it is her greatest curse. East and West Taria are in conflict, and Miyon's power will be the most valuable weapon. Meanwhile, Gai has been sold by his family into Miyon's temple. Will the two save or destroy one another? Hello everyone ! Here is my latest project, Cursed Sight. It has in fact in brewing for quite a while now, and I am happy to finally be able to share it with you all. A demo version of the game is available here: http://cursedsight.invertmouse.com/demo.html So far, my most common feedback is that my previous titles were too short. With Cursed Sight, I am hoping to find a balance between staying succinct and satisfying the players' wishes. The full script is currently around 45,000 words long. Cursed Sight will also be my first release with multiple complete endings. There is currently a campaign to fund the full game. I hope to have your support: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1013046199/cursed-sight-visual-novel Cursed Sight is currently also on Steam Greenlight. If you could consider sparing a moment to vote, I would really appreciate it: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=403682653 Here is Cursed Sight's webpage: http://cursedsight.invertmouse.com And a few screenshots: Before signing off, hey Rooke, Flutterz, thank you so much for helping me out earlier on. I will always remember your support . Nosebleed, thanks for letting me post this here as well. As discussed, please feel free to move this over to Ongoing Projects. Thank you so much everyone! Really appreciate you all as always.

  2. Hey Fuwans! Here is another special episode of the Man Behind the Curtain podcast series I host with Tay. I hope you enjoy it (especially the nature walking moments). Feel free to comment or ask questions in this thread, and I am sure the man himself would be more than happy to answer them in the coming days. https://www.mixcloud.com/OriginalRen/man-behind-the-curtain-episode-4 In addition, you can download all of the episodes from my Google Drive, which is located here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ivNNDDfsj5cml2bm1MSWU0aEE&authuser=0 Enjoy!

  7. As promised, yet more chaos has descended upon the Fuwa Forums index sidebar. This time in the form of quick-link images. Option 1 - Large Boxes Option 2 - Small Boxes I'm interested in criticism, praise, alternates, etc. We're already in this deep, I'm not afraid of doing some science : P

  11. More random translations for you. Also Jesus you need to slow down on posting. For those who don't know, when graduating, it is a tradition for a senior to give their shirt's second button to a junior they like. It is usually the junior who has to ask for it, though. If several juniors ask at the same time, the senior has to give the button to the junior they care about the most. Maki-chan was meant to say "Nico-chan, dai ni botan kudasai" but instead she stuttered and said "Nico-chan kudasai" which basically means she was asking to be given Nico-chan.

  14. 1) Original translation is bananas. It ranges from bad to pure gibberish. Severe mistranslations aside, the overall writing quality resembles a crude fanfic written by 15 years old kid who likes smoking weed, uses Urban Dictionary vocab all the time and doesn't know how to write in proper English. 2) Steam had absolutely nothing to do with censorship, it was only MoeNovel's idea (the VN was originally released outside of Steam). Why did they go that far? Well, they just don't know what they are doing. 3) Restoration patch only adds content that was completely removed (like H-scenes). It doesn't fix too much in the script translated by MoeNovel (so, those "big eyes" were still left as is). Some H-scenes have somewhat... hasty translations, too. Also, it wasn't made for Steam version so it causes plenty of bugs with it. Well, there were some minor issues even with the non-Steam version. 4) If you're wondering what the VN itself is about - it's mainly a slice-of-life title focused on a group of friends building a glider. Romance comes only later on, after a very, very long common route (but you can skip the text you have already read on next playthroughs, so you won't have to go over it again). It's a rather lighthearted, slow-paced novel, don't expect anything too exciting. It does the romance and relationship parts very well though. I find it rather enjoyable, even though I normally don't like down-to-earth slice-of-life at all. 5) As for the new Re-Translation patch, TL and editing are progressing (slowly, but steadily), but there were some technical issues with the new partial patch, so it got delayed... quite a lot. I'll post some proper updates (in a new thread), as soon as everything is resolved.

  19. I honestly don't like this attitude from MangaGamer. They got burned on ef not because it was fan translated first, but because they completely failed to adequately market it. ef was a lightly popular anime, they could have tried to get fans of the show to pay attention to the VN release, but they didn't. They could have tried to push it to fans of romance as it's a fairly serious romance title, but they didn't. They could have advertised it at common otaku sites like 4chan, but they didn't. They did literally no external advertising for it whatsoever and only told people about it through their own site and newsletters. No shit it failed. They now use this negative experience to campaign against fan translations in general, claiming they hurt the industry. The failings are on their end. When JAST is given a fan translation, they polish the hell out of it and release it better than ever before (the ef script was barely changed in the MG release) and advertise the hell out of it. You could see Saya no Uta ads at a lot of common otaku-frequented sites. MangaGamer should exercise some self-reflection before criticising others. Their message pretty much comes off as "please stop". Not "don't translate titles from our partners" but "don't release any complete patches for any VNs at all because it makes contract negotiations hard". Meanwhile, Doddler, their twitter idol, is working with Arudoc to release complete translations for multiple games, Maria is working on a complete Rance Quest fan patch, and Cafe ostensibly will finish Aoire Rinne some day. The behavior of their own staff goes against what they say. They should either get their own ducks in a row before standing on a soapbox or shut up, preferably the latter. I will also say that fan translations obviously have very many benefits for the industry. They suggest that all fan translators only translate trials. I would have never read my first eroge, Fate/Stay Night, if there was only a trial patch available. I would never have given any eroge company a penny of my money if it wasn't for multiple complete translation patches that drew my attention. The industry is still so niche that it can't survive without a thriving fan scene. I can guarantee that MangaGamer would be nowhere if fan translations weren't around and they'd be in serious trouble in the future if all fan translations suddenly ceased. They may seem like an evil to MangaGamer, but at the very least they're a necessary evil as they provide the lifeblood of the industry.

  20. Hey everyone ! I'm dropping by to give news since I was inactive during something like 6 months due to real life problems, but well it's mostly settled up now so I'm coming back on Fuwanovel ! I also want to thank everyone in this thread since you gave me so much motivation when I was still extracting the scripts, seeing you all encouraging us gave me so much courage. I'm also really happy this project came to life, it's been really long and many people were involved but well it's here and I want to thank everyone who was involved for giving birth to this and doing awesome work ! I'm so glad we beat the cursed game and finally translated the last route, it's only deserved for such a good game. So thanks again everyone and cheers !

  23. -Top of fuwanovel- -Guys, we have a big problem, fuwachat is a good tool, it works well, but it isn't popular, we need a good idea in order to bring more people into it. Said the boss. -I have a great idea....let's transform fuwachat into a hentai find... *the first admin got punched in the face* -URUSAI! Hentai!...I have an idea, let's advertise fuwachat as a free chat zone, and... -Shut up tsundere! we ain't gonna have troll... And then, the boss had a marvelous idea... -I have an idea...let's hide fuwachat into a horrible subbar, like that, no one will want to go into fuwachat. And to that idea, everyone answered. -GREAT IDEA BOSS!! WE SUPPORT YOU!!! And that's my friend, is the story of fuwachat. Seriously through, i think that this horrible thing at top right is completely unfriendly, and don't push us into visiting those sites, even if they are great, like the fuwazette.

  25. For those of you who haven't had the chance to check out the podcast episodes as of late, take a look at the new series Tay and I have been working on recently in an effort to improve the community and listen to you, the people of Fuwanovel. The 2 episodes posted below are the beginning of the series - a preview into what we hope will be the format for many future episodes going forward. Being very similar to an "ask me anything" thread, Tay will do his very best to answer the many questions the community has in an effort to connect with the many members here on the site. Fuwanovel is on the verge of change, and this is in my opinion a great leap forward, so feel free to tune in by clicking any of the links below, and we hope this helps answer many people's questions. Man Behind the Curtain - Episode 2: Fuwanovel Unification and Concerns And here is the 1st episode in case you happened to miss it: Man Behind the Curtain - Episode 1: Fuwanovel Towards the Future Thanks for listening!

  29. Me, but I rarely care enough to bother mentioning it. (Edit: Now that I saw Ezee trying to hide the truth, I feel like revealing this was a mistake.) My Western SIF friends are pretty much 50/50 gender-wise, whereas my Japanese LoveLive-r friends are all guys. Not that female fans aren't common over there, but I've come across far too many of them who were all "Look how special we are, we're girls playing SIF!"

  37. You could try what I'm reading right now 夏空カナタ (Natsuzora Kanata)...it looks even easier than StarTrain. Someone recommended it to me as a beginner level VN to practice reading on. It's easy^^ but the story seems very simple as well so far... summer romance kind (3 female routes). The author uses the same vocabulary and way of writing over and over a lot, so it's nice practice and memorization from seeing it constantly.

  44. Hear ye, hear ye -- In case you hadn't noticed, Fuwanovel has a blog app which includes two dev-exclusive blogs (Updates & Recruitment) to help you out. The idea is that you post in one of these blogs, and it's broadcast to all the sites in the Fuwa network. Project Updates Feed (blog link) (rss) -- this is for non-trivial updates like introductions when your project first joins the Fuwa Ongoing Projects board, demo releases, events, announcements, final releases etc. You should also be posting in your project thread (i.e. small or check-in updates shouldn't be posted here) Help Wanted/Recruitment Feed (blog link) (rss) -- to be used as necessary. You can re-post job openings once every 3 days if you've having trouble finding help These two blogs are being integrated into the forums index, the Fuwazette blog, and the Reviews Hub, but in order to post in them you have to get a special "Project Manager" permission set from an admin. One person from each project will have free posting rights to both blogs (you pick who it'll be). The Developer role will give you access to post on the Dev update feed. Permissions to Moderate your own thread (lock/hide etc.) brag with a badge To get blog posting access you should have a project on this OP board, then please PM Emi the following: Who you want to get the permissions and what their relationship is to the project (team lead, PR, etc.) The name of your project The url of your project thread in the fuwa forums After getting permissions: How to make and format a post: Click "Add Entry" on the blog page (Updates) (Recruitment) Write and format the post just as you would making a post on the forums We highly, highly suggest you use at least one image in your post for us to use in the Wordpress featured image function. PLEASE NOTE: The first image in the blog post will be its "featured image" (the image used to represent the post on the other Fuwa sites), so make sure it looks nice, is appropriate (no nudity, etc.), and is of decent size (preferably larger than 300x200px). ^ If you choose to include an image, please do everybody a favor and compress it before using it It may take up to an hour for the post to appear on all the Fuwa sites, but if a post isn't appearing in <=60 minutes, contact an admin I'm going to do my best to make this a useful tool for you guys, and please don't hesitate to get back to the staff or Emi with feedback/input.

As someone who believes the visual novel industry (and interactive stories in general) has almost unlimited potential (restrained by tech and real-life limitations,) and also has great expectations of the OELVN industry, I'll be keeping an eye on you guys. Will definitely be purchasing your games when they're released. Best of luck!

  46. I’m going to respond to Maef’s post here: http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/8694-important-domain-and-host-transfer/?p=240053. I realize the topic has moved in other directions, but a promise is a promise! Hi maef. As I’ve told you before, I think you do a great job cutting to the heart of the issues, and while I think I’ve answered all of these questions here and there in several different posts, it’s worth the time and effort to collect them all here for your consideration. I look forward to your feedback/input. Here are the questions I’m hearing from you. Let me know if I missed any: What is the objective of Fuwanovel? If it’s still “Make VNs popular in the West”, what’s the new gameplan for doing so? In my (Tay’s) mind, how did dropping torrents affect the site and its goals? What new features are being planned to compensate for loss of torrents? How do you plan on getting new players? What is the objective of Fuwanovel? If it’s still “Make VNs popular in the West”, what’s the new gameplan for doing so? If we’re talking about site stationary, then yes, we’re absolutely keeping “Make Visual Novels Popular in the West” as our tagline : P. If we’re talking about site strategy, let me break it down into short and intermediate-term goals (I’ll leave the long-term goals for another post). Short term goals (6-8 months): A) Keep Fuwa relevant, B ) keep building the house, C) Foster/rebuild relationships, D) (possible) VNTLS replacement A) Keep Fuwa relevant: by building new features and increasing blog draw; optimizing searchability by a complete SEO overhaul; building a resource stream to commission special articles and projects; B ) Keep building the house: get the redesigns up (for all 3 sites); enhance Fuwa Academy content beyond lessons and lexicon; build the PC database to >250 games and get a good start on the mobile database; start getting patching guides up; we have 12 VN reviewers on the hub but I wont be happy until I get the last 2 “big” fish on my list; and finish my Fate/HA walkthrough : P C) Relationships: I’ve started forming partnerships with devs for the reviews team, but there are many more I’ll be approaching soon; outreach to TL teams whose patches were on front site + discussion about ways to help; prep resources for TL teams who want private boards on forums for their projects; outreach and joint projects with other VN communities (in discussions atm); evangelizing anime/FB groups and equal-exchange with bigger anime/manga/LN communities; D) I’m talking with folks like [need to get permission before adding name] about ways we can set up a VNTLS replacement Intermediate-Term Goals: E) Fan TL Academy; F) Fan Creation Academy; G) Special Japanese VN news program (Planning on these 3 projects is pretty far along, but as I haven’t had a chance to even bring them up in the LC, yet, I’ll leave it there for the moment) In my (Tay’s) mind, how did dropping torrents affect the site and its goals? I agree with you, Maef, that dropping torrents was a big deal and a threat to our appeal. I think the most important way that it affected the site and its goals from my perspective, is that it forced me to look at the profile of the average user who was going to stick around even after the torrents went offline, and figure out what keeps them coming back. I came to two conclusions: users who “stay” do so for at least one of two reasons: 1) community, or 2) ease of use. If you’re reading this post, you probably get #1 already, so let’s talk #2: People like Fuwa for how easy it is to access information and resources – and that went/goes for more than just torrents. If you take our walkthroughs as an example: they’re far-and-away the most popular English VN walkthroughs on the net. According to Google (I’ve been spending a lot of time with their keywords tools), our walkthroughs are used more and rank higher than GameFAQs for the vast majority of the “popular” VNs, and almost 100% of the less-popular VNs for which we have a walkthrough. Zaka’s TL updates are the same way. The Ongoing Projects board has been quite popular, too, as it allows people to easily find and track a project. The list goes on. If Fuwa can build products which hit on each facet of the hobby and make it as easy as possible to use, we’ll have staying power and we’ll have growing power. There were tons of other mental changes, too, like the benefits of stability. For me, personally, there was a huge mental shift when I realized that there is no longer the threat of unannounced, sudden destruction: I/we now have control of our staying power: owning our own domain and hosting means that as long as the bills get paid, we’ll be here in 12 months time, or in 2 years, or 3 years, etc. What new features are being planned to compensate for loss of torrents? Reviews hub, possible further takeover of VNTLS role, expanded and commissioned blog content, guest blogging program, possible auto-patchers for VNs (user gets the game, gets the patch from the TL team, downloads our autopatcher, and avoids a headache of installation) (this is just on the drawing board, though, so temper expectations), Fuwa Academy lessons + mentor program + lexicon for new players, mobile VN database, partnerships with big TL companies and big/small OELVN devs for review copies of games for FuwaReviews team, a smokin’-hot new front site design, expanding PC database to >250 of most popular VNs, patching guides for the most popular VNs, VN buying guide written by a new friend who wrote the reddit buying guide. Further down the road: Fan TL Academy; Fan Creation Academy; Special Japanese VN news program; expanded interactive fiction section How do you plan on getting new players? Fuwa Academy lessons and resources; complete overhaul of our site SEO to improve visibility; evangelizing and partnerships with anime groups (where the anime group’s corresponding VN has its own page with lots of info); providing lolis for clephas to sacrifice to the Old Gods; intermediate players via possible VNTLS replacement; Steam curation programs (includes promoting, for example, Meru’s list); I have a handful of other ideas but I think I left that notebook at school and I'm tired The last thing I'll say is that the reviews hub is a good illustration of how I personally function. I think Fuwanovel can be a hub of all the facets of the VN hobby, and that we'll be relevant because we are going to write/commission authoritative guides/articles, host our own stuff, and link and promote external groups/sites generously. I want to get to the point where Fuwa is so easy to use, that people want to use it to navigate the VN landscape just because we make it so easy. My brain got pretty tired writing that up, so I’m sure I missed some stuff. Let me know if an answer isn’t clear or not sufficiently comprehensive for you. I really appreciate your Qs and input, Maef. I see Fuwa as a hobby -- I give the site a lot of time, but that's because I have fun working on stuff with friends here. Yes -- I have a vision and roadmap of where I think Fuwa can go, but underneath all of those ideas is a foundation of fun and cooperation. I want to enjoy myself when I come to Fuwa, and I want everybody else to, too. We need to pace ourselves and make sure we're all having fun, and the improvements will come along.
