So I left my mic on for hours...
Rabbit and 10 others reacted to Mr Poltroon for a topic
It turns out I left my mic on for hours yesterday, and it recorded all of my lonesome shenanigans... After editing out some things that are too embarrassing and the plentiful (I swear) silent moments, this is what we are left with. A word of warning, I've read aloud a bunch of random posts on the forum. Something I tend to do, especially during serious discussions. My apologies if anyone is offended, but those are purely for humoristic purposes. Captions can be made if I'm that hard to understand, I guess.11 points -
In this post I'll attempt to introduce JWPce (for those who don't know what it is) (* = refer to JWPce User Manual) JWPce JWPce (Japanese Word Processor for Windows) by Glenn Rosenthal is a program designed for English speakers who are studying Japanese. Now, JWPce has BUNCH of functions (13 others) but I'm only going to talk about the DICTIONARY FUNCTION. Upon searching a word, the dictionary will give you the word in Kanji, the word in Hiragana and the meaning of the word. The dictionary is not limited to Japanese to English. Press Ctrl A to search from English to Japanese. (To return to Japanese to English, Ctrl K) How to use the Dictionary for Learning Japanese through Visual Novels Rains told me about this program. lol This is what I'm using to read Raw VNs. (I'm not an expert yet) After opening the program, press F6. On the left side, you'll see buttons such as Search, Sort... Click Options. A window will appear. Look on the left side and check Track Clipboard. Then OK. Say you have a hooked Japanese sentence on the ITH. Upon highlighting a word (in the ITH) that you do not know, the dictionary will automatically search that word. This is the result of the procedure I described above. If you look at the upper right side of the dictionary, you'll see four stuff you can check or uncheck. These things are used to limit the search. A matter of one's preference. Personally, I check them all so that only the needed meanings are shown and the search is fast (but there are disadvantages too). Basically, you will be reading the text on the ITH which means that parsing (identifying words, particles, etc.) is done by you. In case no matches are found, a warning is triggered and the default warning sound is annoying. Sound can be made tolerable by changing your Windows theme. JWPce uses EDICT, ENAMDICT, and other dictionaries (you can add others) at the same time.* It also has a USER DICTIONARY - a personalized dictionary you can make.* Note: ☆ JWPce is free under the terms of GNU General Public License Link to download ☆ No romaji in this program. Go learn Kana first. ☆ Radical Look-up (F5) is useful for Kanjis you can't hook ☆ Again, to make the warning sound quite acceptable in the ears, I suggest changing your theme. ☆ There are times when the program crashes. This is because of certain words (it can't search). I suggest moving to the next line of the game and open the program again. ☆ To recognize the kanji more (make it bigger) or for more details about a certain kanji, point the mouse to the kanji (on the dictionary), right click then click Get info. ☆ I suggest reading the User Manual (atleast the section about dictionary) ☆ Some things I said are based only on my observations. Stuff may vary. ☆ credit to rainsismyfav for introducing me to JWPce / ITH method I will answer questions I can / am willing to answer. Also please correct me for false information I might have stated. See you around.3 points

How Can Visual Novel Players Expose Newcomers to the Genre?
Zalor and one other reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
Hi Fuwanovel, I would like to try something out with the Fuwanovel podcast that I hope will be received well by the community and facilitate more visual novel discussion here on the forums and outside of the website with friends. This idea was originally suggested by sanahtlig when he thought that The Major and I should make a few changes to the YouTube videos of the podcast to help traffic people into listening to older episodes. I wanted to take that a step further with this test thread. I apologize that it isn't as eye catchy or enthusiastic as some of my other work I have posted, but with all of the recent stuff that has occurred in the past couple of days on Fuwanovel, I am still extremely stressed about posting things I used to be comfortable with, so I am going straight to the point and trying to remain neutral. Anyways, I just finished recording episode 12 of the podcast. The topic was about how newcomers should be exposed to VNs. 5 members gave their opinions about what they felt were good selections for them to play. Whether you are a veteran, newcomer, female, or nukige player, all sides of the matter were addressed. Using that topic from the most recent recording, I wanted to open up the discussion to the forums as well to see what you think. Linked below is the podcast episode. You can either listen to it on my Mixcloud account or download it directly (in mp3 format) from my Google Drive. Mixcloud: https://www.mixcloud.com/OriginalRen/test-test Direct Download: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7ivNNDDfsj5cGFMTUFfcTY0enc/edit?pli=1 After listening to the podcast episode, feel free to share your own opinions about this topic in the thread. Listed below some of the questions that were asked in some way or another during the cast. Some questions that were asked during the podcast: What games do you recommend every newcomer checks out when it comes to playing visual novels? Which VNs do you think they should avoid? How important do you feel comedy is when introducing newcomers to a VN? How important are emotional situations? Major companies (Sekai Project, Mangagamer, etc.) are working hard to translate VNs for the world and bring the genre to many players, both old and new. What are you opinions on their style of business? Do you feel gaming platforms such as Steam are a good introductory way of showcasing visual novels? Would you recommend OELVNs or Japanese translated VNs for those who are just starting out? What are your opinions when comparing them? Name 1 visual novel that you absolutely think nobody should ever play ever. Why did you chose it? Feel free to answer any or all of these questions in the thread. If there is something in the podcast episode that you want to expand or comment on, feel free to do this as well. This area is meant for discussion about the episode and the overall theme of how we can expose new members to visual novels, regardless of what you like. Why am I creating this thread? I think this is a good idea for a few reasons. First, I think this is a good chance for people to share their opinions about the podcast if they were interested in volunteering but didn't get the chance to join. People who aren't comfortable with talking in person can also join the discussion and share their thoughts about the given topic. Second, I was hoping that after this thread's discussion dies down in a week or 2, I could post older episodes of the cast using the same format and start a whole new discussion topic about something related to VNs. I will try to avoid the themed episodes from the previous recordings (Grisaia, Hoshizora) so spoilers don't become an issue, but the rest of the episodes might be interesting. By doing this, I hope more people will facilitate in visual novel discussion and actively want to suggest and volunteer for future episodes. Finally, I think this is good for the moderating team on Fuwanovel. Instead of discussing threads that are cluttering the chatter section, they can focus their attention on something that will have a lot of varying opinions and be fun to participate in I hope. Anyways, I hope this thread and others after it help spark some discussion in the visual novel section of the forums in the coming weeks. I also hope people become more interested in the podcast a little more as a result. Thanks again.2 points -

Fuwa? What happened?
krill and one other reacted to suikashoujo for a topic
So people are speaking for the entire female population of Fuwa even when they don't fall into that category now, huh? When I signed up for a forum that was centered around eroge, I knew what I was getting into. I knew that I was going to be in the minority, but you know what? I didn't really care. I found a place where I could talk freely about these things, and as a result, I've never felt the need to censor my thoughts when posting here. And you know what? I have never once felt "discriminated against" or whatever else some people are calling it now. I've never felt like I've been treated differently because I'm a woman. Ever. I've never once been asked why I only play games aimed at men when I could be playing games aimed at women. The fact that I obsess over female characters has never once been questioned. If these things had happened, and people were ridiculing me for it, THEN I would be willing to call sexism. Someone singling me out for my gender would be sexism. Threads about how attractive butts are may seem immature to some, but it's not offensive. There's definitely a fine line between the two, in my opinion, and I genuinely don't believe that Fuwa crosses it. Note that this is just one person in a group of many, but as part of the group involved in this particular issue, I think it's worth mentioning. In terms of inside joke threads? Yeah, I see where people are coming from on that. As someone who is more content to sit on the outside of things sometimes, I do think the amount of topics that are aimed only at a select group of people is a bit unfair. That is one point I will agree on. But honestly, the site really doesn't seem THAT different from when I joined in 2013. There's always been spam, there's always been meaningful discussion, and there's always been everything in between. It would be boring if we only had discussion, and it would be irritating if we only had spam. But the two CAN coexist, and that's one of the things I love about this place.2 points -
Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete Current Situation: We are trying to get this game translated, and had a somewhat functioning team back in December, where we had enough people to make decent progress. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I'm the only translator left and the group, out of the two members we're left with, and am quite busy for the year, so I'm going really slow with the translations. What's been done? Most of the TL progress has gone to Airi, with the other routes having practically no progress. Minimal editing has been done, but is not recorded. Progress: Kaori 556/8159 6.81% Airi 4837/7236 65.6% Nagisa 0/7356 0% Yui 120/8334 1.44% Others 0/3839 0% Total Progress: 4282/35056 (15.7%) What we need: In order of decreasing importance, Translators Editors Translation checkers Translators: I'd be happy with even one new translator, because it will mean that the project would not be stagnating as much as it is now. What we need you to be is someone who will stick around to the end. Our last translator just disappeared on us, so I hope whoever comes next won't leave without saying anything. Hopefully, you'd have enough free time to make up for my really slow pace, to give this project some bit of progress. Joining us, you have a choice on any of the routes that isn't Airi. You'll be starting from scratch with the route, for better or for worse. Now if you're interested in this position, simply PM me. What now? Our plan now, is to finish up the translation route by route, followed by a round of editing, and finally a TLC/QC. One plan of action we are considering is for us to release a partial patch for each of the routes, because they do mostly make sense on their own (with the exception of Yui's route). However, this is not confirmed, and might change in the future. I hope we can get the support necessary to finish this translation. If not, we'd have to put this project on hiatus until November or when we get another translator, whichever comes first. If you'd like to help, simply PM me, or even just leave a post in our thread.1 point

I am a Background Artist/Colorist looking for a long-term project
starlessn1ght reacted to jackalico for a topic
Hey guys, I'm aware Fuwanovel is more of a place for writers than artists, but I figure there might be a chance some of you are currently looking for artists to help with your projects. As thus, I'd like to offer my help. Devving for a VN is something I've wanted to do for a while, and although I have no formal experience, I've devved for games and organized some groups before, so I'm not a complete stranger to teamwork. I'm basically looking to join any team who needs a background artist, as long as you have some decent concepts/pitches to start with. What I can do: -Backgrounds -Background/coloring for CGs -Various designs, from clothes to color schemes -Logos and promo art -Any themes -Any number of styles (I don't mind trying to match another artist's style) -Maybe some minor UI stuff? -I don't mind working with 18+ content What I can't do: -Anime/manga-style characters, I can clean/color anything from a sketch, but I have no idea how to draw anime for my life What I'm looking for: -A dedicated, long-term project -Decent writing -Hopefully a character artist to work with 0: Here's some of my work, for good measure: Larger View (still with crap compression) Larger View Larger View Some more, older pics: http://i.imgur.com/wYIW5JX.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9Mg1MOO.jpg http://i.imgur.com/w3Ykl4E.jpg http://i.imgur.com/t57dQG8.jpg These are all relatively quick pieces, nothing more than a few hours each. I can do more detailed work, but generally opt not to, as I'd rather be able to draw more varied pictures. Anyway, I think that's about it? I don't mind working on any kind of project, as long as the ideas sound cool and not overly cliche. If you want to get in touch with me, feel free to either leave a reply here or send me a PM. (And if you prefer to chat, I can PM you my skype.)1 point -
Am I the only one that thinks his punishment sounds just about right? It's not like he produced the images. Possession of child pornography should definitely be a criminal charge as he's helping create the market for it, but 90 days, sex offender status, and 2-year probation (with all the hoops and check ups you have to go through) seems pretty appropriate. I don't know how it is in Canada, but sex offender status in the US is pretty much a scarlet letter that makes sure you never have a good job and makes other everyday things more extremely complicated.1 point

-
Oh damn, that is really close to where I live. o-o Yeah he was really lucky to get off with only 90 days. Our government will kick you straight in the nuts if you are possessing stuff like that. This pisses me off though, because I know shit like this is the reason why people look down on anime fans as perverts and degenerates. This type of thing is what strengthens people's beliefs that anime fans are just a bunch of pedophiles. The fact that 3D was mixed in with the 2D makes matters even worse. Ah well. I've seen this type of thing happen a few other times, so it isn't really anything new.1 point

Not weirdly, I like it when the man's younger than the woman. Cases like this are very much present in sibling relationships as well. It's also the reason why I rate mother x son so high. There's just something about experience that I can't put my finger on. I wholeheartedly believe that experience is a great thing, and your partner having previous experience is hot as well. Kurumi is by far one of the best characters in that show and I really advice you watch the OVA with her if you haven't already because she was just shining in it. She's outside the scope of the other submissive heroines, she's not a random tsundere that can't get her feelings straight, I really love her assertive atitude and I think that's what makes her one of the better heroines in Date A Live. Assertive heroines going dere = Win1 point

It's like when you're in school and the teacher tells you off but you say "But he/she is doing it too". It doesn't matter what the other VN communities do, it's about what we do And what we do to represent ourselves and how to show that we really care about what we all believe in." You're really stretching the "New member" right there...1 point

Fuwa? What happened?
krill reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
Fuwa is a place with a respectful atmosphere, it’s not a place where sexual objectification of women can be claimed to be okay because people are enjoying themselves, that’s not kosher. And whether it’s allowed is not your call to make. I know of at least one woman member who was on the verge of leaving because of your funny funny threads, so I DO see a problem. Especially when it’s a goal of Fuwa to be more welcoming to that section of the fanbase. Fuwa isn’t the entirety of the internet, but a respectful and welcoming corner of it. Because it emphasises respect, it obviously has some limitations of what is and what isn’t allowed behaviour wise. You don’t get to do whatever you like anywhere you like because you want to enjoy yourself, and you don’t get to behave as you please in the Chatter forums. You obey the tenets and principles of wherever you happen to be. And if I was a woman I wouldn’t be anywhere the hell near Fuwa. Maybe that’s why most of them aren’t.1 point -
