    Fuwanovel Confessions

One way I've heard it put is that Marvel is about normal people being superheroes, whereas DC is about superheroes being normal people. Marvel heroes usually have some flaw to them, aren't considered 'all-powerful', etc, such as Spider man or some random angsty teenager X-man. DC superheroes are usually larger than life and super-powerful to a degree, such as Superman. In-general, weak characters are most interesting at their strongest, whereas strong characters are most interesting when they fail. As a result, you get Marvel being about weak people learning to be strong, and DC being about larger-than-life heroes failing to save someone. It's a concept that definitely requires a bit more insight, and I don't know much about comics at all, but it's something that could be interesting to keep in mind when looking at the two and superheroes as a whole. Really the only thing I heard is just the 'thesis statement', everything after that is just my interpretation of it based on writing knowledge.

  7. Careful, that's how becoming an otaku happens. One moment you're watching videos about someone's figures and then BOOM you're spending days straight improving a website about porn games.

  11. LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS LISTS Some people like to read VNs as soon as humanly possible. Some like to just preview the translations to come. Sometimes a translation is abandoned part way through, never to finish. Whatever reason they may have, many like to read partial translations. Plenty of VNs make this easy due to their route-based structure. You can often get a complete story even if there are only one or two routes available. However, despite there being a resource to list all VNs completely translated, there is none to list those that are only partially translated. This list will encompass both translations currently in progress and those that are not. It will NOT, however, cover the current progress of in-translation projects, it will only tell you how much is available in its released partial patch. If you want to keep up to date of all translations currently in progress, please follow the VNTS updates arranged by Tay and I, and follow the VNTL-Moon update aggregator. Note: This post will not cover interface or machine translations. There needs to be at least some manual translation of the story text. When possible, I will try to link to the project pages, but sometimes those are no longer available. In-progress translations (These are patches for VNs with currently active projects that wish to release a complete translation eventually) Amagami (patch links, copy and paste them from the page) - Translates the first day (project page) Bishoujo Mangekyou -Norowareshi Densetsu no Shoujo- (patch link) - Translates the prologue. Clover Day's (patch link) - Translates the common route only. Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai (patch link) - Translates the Kana, Ureshino, and Shirasaki normal routes. (project page) Dracu-riot! (patch link) - Translates Elina, Azusa, Rio, Nicola, and half of Miu's route, 90% total translation. (Old project dead, new project here) Hara Kano!! (patch link) - Translates everything except the Hiyo h-scenes, which is being translated by another person. Hinomaru (patch link) - Translates most of Hina's route. Irotoridori no Sekai (patch link) - Translates the prologue only. (There is another older partial patch covering the same content from a different long-dead translation project here) Koi ga Saku Koro Sakura Doki (licensed) - Translates the Mio and Konami routes. Little Busters ME/EX (licensed) - Takes the completed regular Little Busters translation and makes it compatible with ME/EX, does not translate any of the new stuff. Sumaga (licensed) Translated the Spica route and half of the Garnet route. Patch is unavailable due to the game being licensed. JAST claims to be releasing it this year. Sweet Pool (patch link) - "Chaotically" translates the whole game, only half of it is edited, none of it is TLCed/QCed. (final, fixed patch is almost done) Tenshin Ranman (licensed) - Translates the prologue. Project homepage is down, patch was lost. SP license makes this moot. To Heart 2 XRated (patch link) - 100% translation, but still in an unfinished beta due to having unedited routes. Witch's Garden (patch link) - Translate the prologue. Wonderful Everyday - Discontinuous Existence(SubaHibi) (licensed) - A "leaked" patch translated around 80% of the game but it has since been licensed and the patch removed. Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na (patch link) - Translates every route, but most lack editing or QC, some text in CGs are untranslated. Note: requires the original partial patch to work. Yosuga no Sora (patch link) - Translates the Sora and Kazuha routes. Abandoned/Dropped/Stalled translations (these are patches for VNs with projects that are either in limbo or outright dead. You are unlikely to ever get a more comprehensive translation) 11eyes -Tsumi to Batsu to Aganai no Shoujo- (patch link) - Translates the web trial. 3days ~Til Death Do Us Part~ (patch link) - Short trial. 13. Behold! The full glory of an (almost impossible) C64 visual novel. No sound, cause pic. Jokes aside, this might be a near perfect, running imitation (mockup?) I made, but I swear it can actually happen, sooner or later. Definately not with Holo, but a retro-esque catgirl vn, simulating C64 hardware is looming on the horizon. Think of it as some sort of a test and a tribute to the most enjoyable times of my life. DISCUSS UPDATE 23/05/2016: Time sure flies fast, eh? I resumed work on the project, which was previously on hiatus for quite a bit. That's right - nothing's cancelled. I'm not making any promises, but there might be something neat coming soon™. Meanwhile, have another poll. UPDATE 20/08/2015: I wrapped up the results of last poll and made a new one. Regarding previous one, there's no big surprise - cat girls, romance and dystopian steampunk got the most votes. It's not like I ever planned to go along with the demands, but it's more or less what I've been working on; it puts me at ease, knowing people would like to see that kind of thing as well. TL&DR - Your weeb tastes aren't that bad as I originally thought Previous polls: #1 #2

  14. Well it's been one year since I joined Fuwa today. I was hoping I would get to 1000 posts but I will soon enough I feel like I have been mostly a lurker and haven't attempted to really engage with the majority of people in this community. As such I would like to reintroduce my self and hopefully participate more in the future To start off my first name is Thomas, but I prefer to go by Shu online. Ever since I was little I enjoyed watching various cartoons and (later to be known to me as anime) with my Dad and friends. I watched Naruto, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon, and Yu-gi-oh with out knowing where they came from. As I got older my Dad brought me back things from over seas when he went on business trips and I began to love the pop-culture and later historical culture of Japan. Probably around two and a half - three years ago I started watching anime, reading manga/light novels, and listening to foreign music a great deal more. To be honest I felt quite inferior at first since my knowledge of the industry was and still is limited. Over the past year at Fuwa however I stared to actually want to learn more about the more eccentric things that happen behind the scenes. Of coarse I haven't gotten very far in that regard yet but, oh well. Like, the many other people here, I assume Katawa Shoujo, was their gateway to visual novels and then Fuwanovel. Well that stands true for me but I wouldn't have bothered to with out watching Oreimo first. Kirino, the best girl in Oreimo, loves her eroge and after watching I decided I would look some up to play. I stumbled upon Katawa Shoujo and then Fuwanovel after that. I do believe that I have been making decent progress on my played visual novel list, but I still remain far behind many members that frequent the Fuwanovel community. Moving on to my favorites. When it comes to favorites, I am unfortunately very passive and indecisive, just like that MC we tend to dislike. If forced to choose however White Album 2, Oreimo, and Guilty Crown would be at the very top of the list (which is in no order ) when it comes to anime. Now for visual novels since I have only read something along the lines of 15-17ish it is a bit easier to play favorites. My answer for visual novels is... Yep yep a big shocker right? Last but not least comes my favorites for manga. This is easier than anime and visual novels since I just loved it so much. My favorite manga would be Nozoki Ana. Oh gosh did I love this manga. It made me writhe, cry, shout in happiness, and yell in anger. These apply to White Album 2 as well. Finally (I lied about the last part) is my love of music. Again it is a shame I do not know any of the technical aspects of music but as a meager consumer I will live with it. Music, music, music, oh how I love thee. It can do just about anything if put into the right hands. Music can create almost any emotion you can imagine and even ones you can't. Music can express wonderful stories and vivid fantasies. Music can bring you up or bring you down. A lot of people seem to dis on a lot of music these days. I can see where they are coming from but I do not agree. Has the lyrical value of music gone down? In some cases, yes. However, that does not mean you can overlook the amazing artists out there that aren't as well known. Even the ones who are and create "shitty" music you do not like have their purpose. The purpose of many new songs is to have fun and get you hyped, nothing wrong with that in my eyes. *Ahem* sorry to ramble on like that... Anyways this is pretty much an extended version of what is on my profile page. I would like to thank everyone in the community for keeping it alive and kicking. Special shout out to Ken-kun (Monmon) who has played a large role in my life despite what he may think this past year. I hope to get closer to other members of the community as well and if you have any questions ask! P.S I tend to use commas/parenthesis a little to much. At least I believe I do, hope it doesn't bother anyone ~~ P.S.S (Shameless promotion) Check out the K - POP Fuwa Fans thread! It hasn't been active or updated in a while but if you have some interest in it go check it out

  24. You really don’t need to know how to cook to actually cook. Let me give you an example. Meal #1: Grab a can of chickpeas, remove water from can – dump in frying pan Grab a tomato and cut into any size pieces you want – dump into frying pan Grab one sausage from butcher and cut into any size pieces you want – dump into frying pan Fry till sausage is cooked. Take out. Eat alone or mix with some rice. Voila, a meal fit for a lazy person Alternatively Meal #2: Grab a small can of “4 beans”. Mash these suckers as much as you like. Grab some mash potato (boil potatoes, mash, then add butter, or get the frozen stuff from the supermarket.) Mix the mashed beans with the mash potato. Sprinkle mixture with parmesan cheese. Fry this mixture. Voila – Veggie burger. Alternatively Meal #3 – This ones REALLY simple: Buy half a pumpkin from the supermarket (I prefer Buttenut.) Cut into chunks. Sprinkle with oil, shove into oven. Remove when pumpkin is soft and caramalised. Voila – Roast pumpkin. Feel free to add potato, sweet potato, and carrot to the mixture. Do NOT remove from the oven until everything is deliciously soft. This is one of my favourite meals in the winter. If you know how to boil veggies then you can do a classic British meat and 3 boiled veg meal. Boring but it does the job. Gradually teach yourself to cook. It's a life-skill you'll need if you want to look after yourself, and knowing how to look after yourself is important. Start with simple stuff like the above.

  26. These styles have names, NVL (novel) and ADV (adventure), for full screen and bottom of screen boxes respectively. Ideally, you use whichever format is best suited for your scenario. Some VNs will actually switch between the two, such as Grisaia no Kajitsu and G-Senjou no Maou. The idea is that NVL format is better suited to long blocks of narrative text. So Grisaia's narration-heavy flashback sequences use the NVL format. I don't mind either way, but I find it weird and unnecessary if a game uses NVL but doesn't take advantage of all the screen real estate. Like To Heart 2.

  27. You generally only use 痛んでいた to say "was hurting" but if you're using the verb for 痛い then you'd still only use 目が痛む to say "my eyes hurt." Similarly, if you wanted to say "class is starting," you'd write 授業が始まる and not 授業が始まってる In Japanese you actually say "class is going to start" (before it actually starts; as in the start of class is imminent) as opposed to "the start is taking place right this moment." The reason is because the point in time where the class is actually in the state of starting lasts only for a split second. After that, class is already in session (and not "start-ing"). Since でいる suggests a persistent action taking place, it does not make sense for it to be used in these cases. It is actually the opposite for words like 知っています。If you're trying to say "I know," you say 知っています (not 知ります) and if you want to say "I didn't know," you'd write 知らなかった (not 知ってなかった) As for 勉強、に is used to indicate movement or change of state, so that can't be used here. You can think of で as being used for "B, as a result of A." For example, 学校で忙しい = Busy cus school

    Discussion: Save repository

I'm not really sure. We're hashing out a lot of the relevant details of database entries right now in the redesign board, but if we keep the save game repository idea, then I suppose we should put together a gameplan for collecting saves. It's going to be a royal pain, tho. There's probably going to be a lot of necessary checking involved : (

Online dating is just a means of engaging contact, like picking someone up in a bar or having a fateful encounter. Whether or not a relationship works out or not, depends on the people involved, not on a number. It's not a lottery. Here are some statistics I've defeated in my life: "1 out of 2 people will fail". Your will is going to fuel the inspiration of many and people will join you in your endeavour sooner or later. Why I'm telling you this? Because 1.5 years ago I started this journey the same way you did. Alone, armed only with my love for VN's and no previous knowledge on what to do. Now we have an established project and our team is full of kind, talented people driven by the same motivations and towards the same goal. Don't give up and be true to your goal and your project will never die. PS. I'm glad you read the resources we have here. They are there to help encourage people like you with the dream of making a VN. The ren'py guide (made by yours truly) is a WIP and I plan to add more to it when I have the time. PS.2 You're welcome to check our project thread, it might be good reference for you: http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/2957-violet-hill-community-based-visual-novel-project-demo-released/ As a fellow project leader, you have all my support and if you need anything don't hesitate to contact me. I'll help you however I can. Welcome to VN developing! PS.3 Sent you a PM, be sure to check it out!
