    Who would you miss?

Fuwa is a wonderful community full of people who are all very sad when even a single of our number leaves. Though not every single name may get mentioned in this thread it would of course not mean that the un-named would not be missed were they to leave. We need all the various voices, from the newbiest noob to the saltiest old dog to make the beautiful harmonious choir that is Fuwa.

  2. Hey guys, so I was thinking about how I wanted to use this blog in terms of promoting my song covers, and I realized that making a new post every time I upload something is overkill, since- for the moment, at least- I'm uploading multiple times a week. So for the foreseeable future, I'll be making a post with links to everything I've done that week. First off is one that's a week and one day old, but it's new enough that I'll count it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKBg9wMf_Y4 Next is one from a few days ago. Honestly, this is probably the weakest of the bunch, so prepare yourself if you subject yourself to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhAiswNUYe4 And here's the newest one, just uploaded a few minutes ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UL9Hlnz3dI

  3. Once upon a time, in the magical land of Fuwa, there lived a troll named Whore. Whore was the ugliest troll in Fuwa. He was so ugly that no person alive would ever come near him. Now, this would of course make Whore very hungry, for he could never catch a meal. He always felt jealousy towards Nosebleed, the handsomest Prince of the land, son of Queen Aeru and King Tay. Whore, devoured by envy and hunger, set out on a journey to find Nosebleed and make him his first meal in a century. Whore, had at last found where Nosebleed lived. In a strong desire to get revenge on Nosebleed for being born beautiful, he sent letters to the nobles of Fuwa. These letters reported that Nosebleed assaulted one of the lolis of Loli Mountian. This was against the law of Fuwa, as the loli's were highly valued and respected by all who lived in Fuwa, as the moé ones. However, he forgot about Sir Steve, the protector of loli's who never missed a single assaulter. Sir Steve would know if Nosebleed truly did this, as he was blessed with the power to send out a million eyes to watch over the loli's and alert him of any trouble. When this plan failed, Nosebleed approached Whore, and banished him to 4-chan where he would have to live among those even uglier than himself. They say, Whore will make a return 1,000 years later to have another shot at revenge.

Let's try this again. I hid all posts here. Don't want to take Ren's deal? Don't take it. Want to take Ren's deal? Take it. Want to discuss the morality of supporting second hand copies? Make another thread for it. Ren's offering something, nothing less, nothing more, don't turn it into a first world problem in this thread, please.

    [PSA] Change in default theme

As you may have noticed, the default theme of the forums have been changed from the old Gravity Green to the new FuwaFabulous. If you want to revert to the old one, go to the bottom left of the page, select "Change Theme" and pick Gravity Green. Notice that there are several other themes you can try. The FuwaFabulous theme can be customized. On the top right of the page, you can change the color and a few other details by clicking on "Edit style". Please note that the default theme and the availability of some of the other themes (such as Clarity) are subject to changes in the upcoming weeks. Or whenever Tay feels like it. Any complaints regarding this change is to be sent at [email protected].

  8. Kyou! Now that that's out of the way, let's continue... What's this about? Basically, I felt like giving something away to celebrate me being generous finishing 9th grade. So I thought, why not Fuwanovel? I've been lurking here for a while and i wanted to test a thing out, but we'll get to that later. I'm not very confident in writing English so please, don't think of it too much. What's the prize? Unfortunately, because of my amount of money young age, I can't give away something that'll need shipping. So I will be giving away 15€(Euro) on steam to do whatever you want with. But one more thing. Since I don't know of a way to send money via steam (If you know of one, please tell me) I'll have to gift the items you want to you, whatever it might be. A steam account is required. I might give away a second prize of 5€, we'll see how things turn out. You can wait however long you want to redeem the prize. (waiting for the summer sale is pretty smart.) How do you win? I promised myself that I wouldn't do a luck-based thing, so what I came up with here's the testing part was a game of figuring out which VN characters I'm describing. The descriptions are pretty vague and you need to have a bit of knowledge on VNs. I will stick to pretty famous ones and they are all under the 'main character' thing on VNDB. And yes, before you ask, you can use my VNDB page however much you want, the characters I will be describing are all on my list or wishlist. Just PM me the character names and which VN they are from. I will end it on Friday at midnight GMT+1. If I think more time is needed I'll post about it. Do not post your answers here. There will be a punishment... I can very easily see this becoming a failure and if that happens I'll give the prize to someone somehow. I'll just give it to Zalor Let's do this!!! Hey now, calm down! Here are all the descriptions, I will sort them by vagueness. (The first one being the easiest IMO) I might add more if I see it necessary. If they are too hard I may make them easier, we shall see. Edit: Note: every number is a different character. 1. This character is not from the country in which the story takes place, and because of that is the center of a lot of lies/jokes from the MC. This one was Christiane Friedrich from Majikoi. Motivation: She's from Germany and gets teased a lot by Yamato. (The MC) 2. This character turns over a night from a typical high school student to one of the most important person in the country without realizing the change. This one was Yukino Ohama from Osana . Motivation she becomes the president over Nippon over a night. 3. She's a 'cat lady' but doesn't have any 'real' cats. But they're still as cute. This one was Minazuki Shigure from Nekopara. Motivation: She owns he cats but they aren't cats they're catgirls but sill very cute. 4. This character makes so that everything in a one kilometer radius gets bought and demolished just to build a mansion there so the MC won't be disturbed. This one was Meiya Mitsurugi from Muv-Luv. Motivation: Well i played Muv-Luv and came to the scene where that happened and felt like writing about it. 5. This one is the vaguest.IMO She was saved from hate by the MC and now lives for love to the MC. This one is Shiina Miyako from Majikoi. Motivation: Don't want to spoil anything, just play her arc and you'll see. And the winner was Suikashoujo with 5/5 correct. Congratz. I will contact you on the forums to discuss what you want. I haven't decided on a winner of the 5€ price. I will select him/her shortly. If some of these are bad just tell me and I'll try to fix it. And i want to see how easy/hard it is to guess a character by a vague description. Edit:In case of a million people getting everything correct Which I hope I'll create some sort of tiebreaker. Also I would like if we could keep so that if you send in answers you cannot change them even if you realize it's wrong. Edit2: After overviewing the post, I realise that there were a few errors in here, which have been promtly been dealt with. Sorry for any inconvenience and for any missed errors. I wish you the best of luck! - Amuzie Update: I have added a second prize of 5€, but the way to win it will be kept a secret.

  13. I'm sorry if a similar thread had been posted before, but I just wanted to help those people having problem playing VNs, for you who do, here's some VN troubleshootings: 3. It's a golden rule for VNs so you should've known it but I'll tell it again, play those VNs with Japanese locale (not ntleas/applocale/applocale/locale emulator, they're not always working). If you got it by installation, make sure you install the game with Japanese locale too, since some games unable to write the right file names with other locales. The point is so that the game could read/write non-unicode characters correctly. For the way to do it, read this post by Aeeru-san: http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/1704-how-do-i-change-my-computer-to-japanese-system-locale/ 4. If your Directx or video card/display driver is old, update them. You can check your device driver's here (through the control panel): The highlighted option is "disable" but what you should check is the "update driver" option. 5. If it crashed/freeze/show a black screen while playing videos, install some codecs using K-Lite codec pack or CCCP. Many games would freeze/show a black screen when it tries to play a video you don't have the codec for. 6. Some games need a certain font, and won't work correctly (for example when you see jumbled words/lines) before you installing the font, so make sure you've installed them before playing. Some of them should be incluced with the installer though. But, if you don't find the font you needed for the game included in the game folder, you need to install it. Some examples are: Kimi no Nagori wa Shizuka ni Yurete needs BSVM fontGalaxy Angel needs Consolas fontSteins;Gate needs Droid Sans Fallback fontCross Channel needs Inconsolata fontKamidori Alchemy Meister needs Meiryo font, it will even crash if you don't install the fontand some others 7. If you have problems installing in C:\Program Files or any default installation folders, try to install it in another folder. It's recommended to install your game outside C:\Program Files in Windows 8/7/Vista due to legacy issues with how the OS handles the Programs Files folders and how older games modify files within those folders. 8. Sometimes you need to deactivate Windows DEP/ User right management for some games. 9. Somes games' files could be detected as malware/trojan by antivirus programs, add them to the exception list or disable your antivirus protection for a while and see if it's really the cause. 10. And if there are still problems with your game, try to ask the game developer. Some specific games troubleshootings: Chaos;Head ef Lite Ever17 Hoshizora no Memoria -Wish Upon a Shooting Star- Kara no Shoujo Kana: Little Sister Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai! 14. I'm not going to go into too much detail, but some general style suggestions: --Semicolons: Learn to use them! They are indispensable, and something like this practically demands them. Yet there was a sad lack of them at times, and a number of times they were misused. For instance, at the very end you have "Yet the victor was certain, as long as a miracle did not occur, the tide of battle was as good as set in stone." That comma at the beginning splices; make it a semicolon! Alternatively, you could make the second comma a semicolon instead--the point is, this sentence is in desperate need of some semicolon loving. A number of the times you did use semicolons, they were paired with incomplete sentences. M dashes work far better here: "Citizens you wish to protect, your beloved friends; there is no better sacrifice than their pure souls." should be "Citizens you wish to protect, your beloved friends--there is no better sacrifice than their pure souls." Also, colons: "Now I can wholeheartedly agree; indeed, it is not scary in the slightest." should have a colon. --Ellipses: You're overusing them. Ellipses are going to feel very languid, very slow; in other words, they engender the exact opposite emotion that you should be going for in a fight scene. Let's examine a sentence from early on in 1-3: 稲妻と化したその身体は、炎も銃弾も透過する, which you rendered as "Taking the shape of lightning itself, she penetrated fires... she pierced bullets." Consider instead "Her body became a bolt lightning, zipping through fire and bullet alike." This sentence feels much more alive. Some other examples of ellipses should be replaced with M dashes, another solid tool you seem to be neglecting, such as Eleonore's statement around the six minute mark in 1-3. --Periodic sentences: Basically, this is a complicated way of saying to write a sentence such that the most important information is at the very end. This causes the sentence to build like a crescendo into something magnificent. To use another example from early in 1-3, "Finally, a hit… finally she caught up to her elusive superior who might as well have been above the clouds to her before." could become "Finally... Though there had once been a greater gap between them than the gap between the land and the clouds, she finally managed to land a hit." This feels triumphant. (I also took the liberty of rewriting the metaphoric bit here, though I still kept it pretty literal because I like the literal metaphor a lot.) --You clearly sought to use past tense for all narration, which makes me love you forever. Just sayin'

  20. Mmm... a few examples of missing the point. A reviewer that plays a VN, then complains about the lack of gameplay. A reviewer that plays a roguelike and complains about grinding. A reviewer that plays an MMO and complains the people around him in the game talk too much. A reviewer that plays a classic-style console jrpg and complains about the fact that they didn't 'go outside the box' in anything except the story. (lol) These are all examples of reviews that caused me to form my opinion. I've had twenty-something years to grow to hate professional reviews, and this is just a small portion of what I mean by 'missing the point' (the extreme versions, I'll admit but no less true for all that). Edit: This is a tendency any reviewer tends to develop after they've been reviewing for a while. Heck, I find myself doing it sometimes, though I try to filter it through a 'this is the type of person who would like to play this type of game' filter.

  23. Project Intruduction We have decided to start a translation project for this VN because the chances of it getting an official translation are close to zero and we know that many people are interested in it. It has over 80000 lines so it is a bit big for a first project but we are confident that we can do it. Current situation We already have the first ~500 lines translated but they still need editing. For a detailed status overview, please visit our website and check this thread. There are currently 2 translators and 1 editor working on this project, but due to the amount of work to do we could really need a few more. What we are looking for Translators: Preferably people with good Japanese AND English skills to minimize the editing work. But even if none of the languages are your native one you are still welcome to join us, we can use any help that we get. Editors: People who speak English as native language and also have experience with Visual Novels. You will need to correct grammar and spelling mistakes and also make the conversation flow better by re-writing too literal translations to sound more natural (without changing the meaning of course). Translation Checkers: Responsible for finding and correcting content-related errors in the translation. If you want to apply for any of these positions, please send me a message.

    Ayakashi Contract: Final Part

Haruka Haruka is the traditional 'older woman' heroine that used to be included in just about every VN, as a token to those who preferred that type. Of course, they don't come out and say how much older she is, but considering that she was in her teens when Tsumugi was a toddler... Anyway, she is a spiritualist/youkai hunter who comes to the town with the intention of hunting down a man-eater that is supposedly hidden in the populace. She gets wrapped up in the events of the main story in the common route and ends up settling in the town (and incidentally falling in love with Yukiya). She has some serious emotional scars, and overcoming those is a big part of her path. In this case, most of the obstacles that tend to be put in the path of her type of heroine and a younger protagonist don't exist, so don't expect much trouble from the outside about their romance. Rather, this path centers around her work, her personal traumas, and how she overcomes them with Yukiya's help. Like Minagi's path in the previous post, her path's ending is quite excellent and extends several years after the actual ending of the story, which left me feeling satisfied, needless to say. Anna Anna is the protagonist's younger cousin (who of course calls him oniichan, lol). She is a bright, energetic young girl with an eternal smile. Her path tends more toward the mundane, with a focus on rejuvenating the town through her and the protagonist's activities. The drama in her path is less tear-worthy than Minagi's or Haruka's, but in exchange you get a really hilarious scene in which the path's antagonist gets his just-desserts. Perhaps the funniest part about this path is the clashes between her father and Yukiya, though, lol. Similar to the other paths, it touches on events well-along the line after the endings, when Yukiya and Anna have settled down and begun living their non-student lives. Not only that, but it ends on a really sweet (cute-sweet, not cool-sweet) note that I'm sure soft-VN lovers will like. Midori Midori is the mayor's daughter and the story's serious, straight-laced heroine (of the 'iinchou' type). She is the most negative toward the youkai of all the heroines, and her start with the protagonist is about what you could expect with a lucky-sukebe event and a straight-laced girl, lol. The actual path is focused on the need - and it is present - to balance the needs of the forest and the youkai that live there with those of the people of the town. This search for a middle path is the source of most of the drama in the story, and it leads to some tense moments. Similar to Anna's path, this one isn't really tear-worthy, but it has enough laughs and normal emotional ups and downs to satisfy most readers. Her path goes the least distance from the end of the story and is thus the least fulfilling, from the perspective of those who love after-stories. Tsumugi Tsumugi is your typical 'wannabe' spiritualist. You know the type that you see in various anime/manga/VNs that love the occult and want to get involved with it but have absolutely no talent for it, right? Well, she's the typical one of that type. Similar to Haruka's path, this has a focus on the spiritualist side of things, and there is plenty of foreshadowing for those who are used to the typical patterns of VNs in modern fantasy settings. That said, it is carried out well, and the characters, setting, and events are all used to paint a really good picture. You'll probably cry at several points near the middle of her path, and the ending is quite satisfying (and adorable, lol). Like all the paths but Midori's in this VN, the after-story is quite satisfying and emotionally fulfilling. Overall The word that comes to mind with this VN is 'complete'. It is fairly rare to come across a VN that a company obviously has no intention of fandiscing to death or even hinting at some sort of side-story addition. This VN is designed to be one complete set of heroine stories, and it does everything it sets out to do about as well as you ever see. Those who like fantasy mixed with romance but without the intense violence of a chuunige will like this VN, as will those who like nakige. This is also my current prime candidate for VN of the Month (though Sumire would have been worthy if this hadn't been around). I know that most people will go 'eeeh, but I thought you disliked this kind of obvious moe-appeal VN?!' However, the fact is that any VN genre can be pleasurable if it is done as well as this one was.

  35. More than culturally opposed to, I think it stems from the notion that they believe professional reviews cannot help but be biased by industry ties. Given that Japanese culture is collectivist, encouraging suppression of dissent, this failing may be ingrained in their culture. Because writing good reviews is hard work (I've spent a good 12hrs+ writing my Venus Blood Gaia review). Done right, it's a form of marketing that guides buyers to make better purchasing decisions, which is good for consumers and good for the industry. We pay companies to market their products to us (whether we like it or not). Why not pay reviewers for consumer-centric marketing?

  38. Should we promote and highlight quality content creation or purposeless chatter? To me the answer is fairly obvious, especially considering the real estate consumed by the two features is about the same. The birthday feature serves no purpose other than fueling a massive spam farm. Congratulating someone on a birthday doesn't show sincere consideration if you have to be reminded to do it by an automated tracker that has been thrust in your face. Any result from that is simply the illusion of thoughtful consideration.

I also was put in the hospital for that week long period and it's BORING as hell in the hospital. I had low potassiusm and such issues, not a stroke. Did some physical therapy stuff as well, which to be quite honest was not hard. I got released from it my final day, as I'm likely sure they'd make me do it after getting out or make me stay if they felt I was not ready. Note this was a few years ago now, though. I still take meds for certain things for it. I still wish you and him luck and hope he can get better someday to join his friends on here!

  42. Hum. For me, enjoying reading was being able to imagine things I wouldn't normally do on my own. Being able to delve into worlds aside from reality. To put myself in other people's shoes, and walk that mile you could say. Things you can't necessarily do in real life. In short, it's fascinating. I'll read just about anything without concern for writing prowess or what gives, as long as it's interesting.
